  • The Holosun 515CM come with a the red dot mounted on a riser and a QD base. This is great for the AR platform where you need to co-witness with your BUIS and need to maintain the right height over bore for correct zero. However, using a red dot that’s sits this high on a shotgun doesn’t allow for a good cheek weld and your stuck with almost a “chin weld”. The riser is removable, but it may not be obvious how to do so.

    This was super helpful. Not just for learning how to unscrew things either lol. I was trying to figure out what mount I could switch out. Thinking about the unity tactical super high mount since I am a giraffe. Good to know it's a aimpoint pattern. Holosun's website was no help.

    Cool, I was wondering why these didn't come with a lower profile spacer.

      I had bought a HE530GM and it even said on the website/listing that it was supposed to come with a low & high mount, but didn't. When I opened a warranty claim with HS because the mount that came with it was VERY out of spec (way too wide to clamp on any pic rail I tried it with) and they sent me a replacement, they sent me what I was lead to believe what it was supposed to come with anyways: The mount that has a spacer and acts as either a low or high mount.

    The the American defense come with extra screws?

      @CDCLLC  Год назад

      from what I rememebr, it did not. you had to use the stock screws. This was several years ago so my memory could be wrong.

    Would you advise taking the riser off the 515 in order to put it on an offset mount (AR15) while using an LPVO? Thank you.

    • @CDCLLC
      @CDCLLC  3 года назад +1

      For sure. It's a good optic. Just keep in mind that your "height over bore" will be differnet, so you will need to make sure your ballistic calculations for POA/POI workout to the distances that you want when you zero it as an offset sight.
      Personally, I'd be concerned a bit about the weight. If you're using it as 45 degree back up to your LPVO, and you're concerned about weight, then I'd go with something like the 507C instead of the 515. Just something to think about.

      @@CDCLLC Thank you so much for your help. I checked the specs and the 515 is more than 2x the weight of the 507. I bought 2 two shorter rifle barrels to combat the excess weight of all the devices, but things keep adding up, regardless. Older eyes need more help. :(
      Sadly, these are unusual times and I'm currently limited by a few things (I already have the 515 vs the cost of a new red dot and a LPVO, availability and $ of ammo, finding a place in the middle of the pandemic/December weather to zero things at 100 yards). So, until things calms down , if that actually happens, I have to limit myself to the 515 and zeroing at a local indoor range at 25.
      Again, thank you for your advice.

    Would be nice to know what size torx you used to remove the screws...

      I used the Torx "Wrench" That came in the box with the sight. It's either a T15 or a T10.

    Will it be absolute cowitness now?

    • @CDCLLC
      @CDCLLC  3 года назад

      Absolute co-witness with which platform? The co-witness depends on the height of the sights on the platform you’re putting it on.

      Stock, the riser allows for an absolute co-witness on an AR platform.
      Without the riser you wouldn’t be able to use these on an AR with BUIS
      The spacer was removed to get it to mount low enough on a shotgun to maintain a decent cheek weld

      The end result is removal of the plate. Hence the title “removal”. If you’re looking for an installation video, check the other videos referring to mounting this sight on a shotgun.
