100% agree with the saving!!!! This was my ONLY criticism with the game, everything else is literal perfection. One important aspect is that the map should NOT reset upon death. I want to be able to see where I died and not lose map progress. Punishing players for death is great, but not forcing them to retrace every single step and re-explore areas that have already been explored. Not sure how Windette missed the shop in the mushroom area that shows you what the bones are used for. Maybe there should be an improvement guiding the player about them, but I feel like people are gonna naturally collect currency most of the time....didn't have an issue with this personally. Aside from the horrible horrible saving system, this game is absolutely phenomenal. 9.99999 out of 10!!!!!!!! A must try for any fans of Hollow Knight, Ori, or....er.....Doom.
this is so fast paced I can barely tell whats going on half the time and its exactly how I like it. windy should finish the game we need more s q u i g g i l y m a n
Unironically one of the most nuanced reviews I've seen in. This is what a review should be so many reviews I see only highlight the positive OR the negative and do not point out both. You also elaborated on what you would do to fix said problems which is something so few reviewers do nowadays.
Sounds fun! I’d definitely wait until controllers are fully functional to play, though. I prefer using keyboard/mouse for many games, but mechanics like these can make it more difficult. When a game requires one hand on the mouse at all times for basic movement, it significantly restricts how many inputs the average player can manage. In my first playthrough of Ori and the Blind Forest, I had to give up and use a controller for the Ginso Tree escape because I only had two hands.
I was one of those silly people who watched Blind Forest, but then decided to play the sequel. I'm told that the sequel's equivalent isn't as hard, but I do still think I'd have had a better time if I used a controller. Sadly, my only old 360 controller wasn't working so I had to suffer through with keyboard and mouse XD
@@alil636 Some people don't like having all of the button control being tied to a single hand which is what you'd need for a game that requires mouse and WASD to move around. Granted, I haven't played Doomblade to know how it feels.
You should give it a shot now. I think you'll find the movement system with mouse/keyboard is a lot more intuitive than you may expect. It's very very easy to pull off insane movement with the left click alone. Add keys for left/right and dash and you won't really need more inputs mid fight. It was definitely a good decision on the devs' end to make the required inputs super minimal since theire movement system is so unique. It makes learning and mastering it super easy.
Cool video! One thing I would like to add is that the bones do have a use. They are the currency with which you can buy items in the various shops. Some of them are for stat upgrades but there are also ones with unique effects.
this be a good recap but few things to add one bones are currency you missed the shops there is one in the mushroom mines if you go more down while yes the saves an be annoying there are put all over the place so save when you see one and you will never lose more then a few minutes of time the controller is not allowed due to all the combat and skills needing a mouse you click to attack right click to throw stuff like electricity and onions with a controller you don't get the same persuasion which would make the game a lot harder and some bits are hard enough but over all good video love to see videos from you windy
Agreed, though I do think that the save system needs a rework. Having to go back and re-collect stuff, talk to certain npcs again, and fill in all the little shadows on each room on a map is a pain. I'd rather be punished by being moved back to the save point and losing bones, or something. This kind of save system is hopefully becoming more archaic.....there's no need for death to punish you with tediousness. And while the game's low difficulty and well-placed/plentiful save points make this issue more than bearable, it could still be better designed. That being said, even factoring in the save issue, this game is easily a 10/10. Incredible design, mechanics, worldbuilding, music, art, sound design, etc. Absolutely incredible :D
I don't know where you got the idea that a controller isn't supposed to be allowed considering on the store Page it specifically says full controller support And even then if the game isn't intended to be played with a controller it probably shouldn't be able to recognize when one is plugged in if that's the case something that was pointed out at the very beginning of the video
As someone who just played both Ori Games and is currently addicted and longing for them since BOTH OFFER SO LITTLE FOR ENDGAME CONTENT i can see myself enjoying this game alot And would also like to point out that the game seems to have alot of inspiration from Ori as well, like The Bash ability and the platforming parts of the game, you could argue its just the “Hook” ability and a Bash combined, but this game honestly is very Unique in its own, the saving part of the game seems like Ori & the Blind forest ( Part 1 ) which I absolutely hated especially after playing The sequel of that, so i do wish they would kinda tone it down on that loosing alot of progression just because you didn’t save. The Combat as well seems good and im all for it, having Combat with Platforming combined is like one of my favorites and Ori really made me realize how much I absolutely loved it.
i remember casually browsing on the opera gaming corner, seeing this game and just being drawn to the dark, crimson elements like cult of the lamb with the metroidvania feel of hollow knight, alas i never played but i wish i did
You missed a shop back in the mushroom area that you could access from the beginning of the game. Right next to there, there's also a spot where you can use your "power to power" to access a bossfight. Also, both the tablet and any other seemingly usless collectables can be taken to the guy next to the fire and exchanged for bones or other rewards like heart pieces. I'd really like to see more content on this game, since it's one of the most underrated and obscure metroidvanias I've ever seen or played--I still don't know why since it's definitely at least in my top 10 metroidvanias.
I finished this game recently, it's genuinely great! Many of those complaints get addressed later in the game (bones for example), but some are totally valid. All I can say is that it was already pretty good at this point, in the game and it only gets better from here
Hey Windette, i dont know if you have ever played this game called "Rain World" but i'd love seeing you play it and stream/do a video about it (its a very unfair but cool game)(also a "explained on crack video about it would work very well imo)😊
I wanna see you do a 'Roboquest explained in insults' video because I can already tell how it's going to go, play exclusively commando and always take the headhunter experimental shorty upgrade and just taking any of the upgrades that increase and allow the easier obtaining and keeping of your fury points because fury points equal more damage and the way commando is designed makes it so by the end of the play session you will be dealing more damage if you take damage, deal damage to begin with or just not doing damage at all, you literally stay at full damage capability the entire time while also moving and shooting faster so in short _D A M A G E_
This reminds me strongly of a game I played a couple of years ago called Sundered. It was a relatively short, procedurally generated metroidvania that had very, very similar mechanics and design choices, with a few exceptions that in my eyes make it superior. Granted, it is a bit daft to say this, since I have not actually played Doomblade, my impressions of it are based purely on this video. The big one is that movement looks really sluggish for some reason. When you're not dashing at enemies, the movements feel very slow and like they have momentum, but not in the fun way that would make it a valuable gameplay mechanic. The bosses look really simplistic, but it also looks like they're ramping up in difficulty, so it's likely just a matter of them being simple to start with. I do like the atmosphere, but I have to admit... the gloom and doom theme of 'you're always an outsider (or exiled insider) who comes in to unravel a deep dark secret that is corrupting this land' is getting a bit stale to me. That's really a thoroughly subjective take. This game does seem to build the atmosphere really well, and I do quite like the contrast between bright colours and dark theme, something that Sundered also did really well.
Were you saying Doomblade's movements are sluggish, or Sundered? Doomblade's movement is lightning fast, not sluggish at all. You don't move very fast when not dashing to enemies, but that's basically how you move around in this game. There's barely any actual walking. (and you have a quick dash so even that isn't slow) The story is definitely simplistic, but the theme of this game is pretty unique. It's literally Ori x Doom, a combination I NEVER would have imagined possible--yet it works perfectly here.
@@azeTrom17 It seemed like Doomblade's movements were sluggish. Again, this is based entirely on this video and one other that I have watched about the game, I have not played the game myself. If I am wrong about it, well, good. I can't say I'm incredibly fond of the design of movement being centered around enemies' presence, but again, that's a thoroughly personal quibble, not one that actually reflects negatively on the game.
@@OisirM Fair enough. I will say that the movement in this game is so quick that to me, Hollow Knight feels crazy sluggish by comparison.
