Ah yes city of tears, in my newer runs I only get there after exploring deepnest and getting all of the shinies that I can in there, then I use tram pass to go just about everywhere except for city of tears until I'm legally required to upgrade my nail
That's actually what I did my first playthrough, somehow. I just.. missed the big acid bridge room, got the Mantis Claw, and with no clear way to go I ended up just wandering around and finding what I thought were cool secrets. I love that this game hides an entire optional area behind being curious enough to try and go back through King's Pass now that you can climb walls, and that's mostly how I ended up in Crystal Peak next instead of City of Tears. I didn't actually reach City of Tears itself until I had the dream nail, went into Deepnest, got Herrah, and took the tram all the way to Ancient Basin so I could climb the broken elevator room.
Yup in city of tears I ended my fist steel soul run. I was going for dreamers and I died. Not by theese big buffed bugs, not watcher knights, but a vegenfly coz I didn't pause a game properly

Like real talk, been through some shit and now if someone doesn't verbally abuse me at a certain time of day, I'll have what I'm 99% sure is a panic attack. (The 1% being that I haven't been to a doctor.) So I speak no sarcasm when I tell you thank you for making this, it really is a coping mechanism for me. Also yes, I have a problem. But I'm not in a position where I can do much about it.

I was terrible at hollow knight when I first started playing and my journey through fungal wastes was no exception. I didn't have too much issue with the acid pools but the exploding wall mushrooms killed me more times than I can count. I also decided to do Mantis Lords on very low equipment and had to walk back from the Queen's Station bench every time I died, losing my shade a few times to some of the normal mantises in Mantis Village. Definitely not a beginner-friendly area !!
Here's something I did for my run of the game, after I got the claw, I grinded to get the lantern, then head to the side dark room in the crossroad area, that's how you can get to the crystal mine before going to city of tears, when I got crystal heart, I headed back to the fungal area and just c-dash past the parkour in the fungal area before city of tears
I remember watching this series to help me through my first HK playthrough, and feeling so smug and accomplished when I had enough geo to buy Shaman's, and when I beat Mantis Lords before going to City of Tears. I also remember dying endlessly to all the harder platforming sections
When I was new I legit missed the mantis lords fight and didn't know of it's existence until I was trying to get the dreamers lmfao, I thought if you fall in the pit you just die
Hollow Knight is great because there's so many ways to play and do it all at your own pace. That said, I can't fathom how you got through Greenpath before the gruz mother. It would have never occurred to me to not start with the easiest boss, even if I had managed to read the map in a way that lead me to Greenpath instead of gruz mother first
The last part with the bridge is harder than it looks my hands are still aching from trying to get to the second part of the platforming. Much like a blunt instument precision isn't always my forte at least I'm in the right direction. Great content as always.

I always take a different path to Fungal Wastes You first go to the part in Greenpath where you first encounter the Obble enemies Then there’s a way into a lower room Now everyone uses this to fight MMC(Massive Moss Charger) and No-Eyes But if you go past all the Gulkas and to the right of the first Durandoo you will find an entry into Fog Canyon(or the Jellyfish Fields) go down the two rooms you can for the time Going right from the bottom brings you right to Queen’s Station This makes Station the first stop in your Fungal journey followed almost immediately by getting the map from Cornifer
How to play Hollow Knight:
-Look at your map, if you see empty spots, go there.
-That's it.
