Great video, Michael! I remember that just a few years ago Prime was $99/yr. Then it was $119.00. Now it’s $139. We don’t watch Prime Video content all that often. Amazon keeps nudging us to consolidate deliveries into one ‘Delivery Day.’ And sometimes, Amazon sends our orders via USPS, which means that occasionally we have to go to the Post Office to pick up our packages. So…hmmm. You gave us something to think about. Prime isn’t looking like such a deal anymore.

I've been a Prime member since 2005 when the yearly cost was $79, and I just cancelled my membership today. Only reason I had it was for faster shipping, but shipping times haven't been the best in the past couple of years. $150 (with tax) is not worth it for me. Camel's back has been broken.

$139 yes, but in Maryland I pay an additional 6% sales tax, so Amazon Prime is really $147. Because of your video, I decided to NOT renew my Amazon Prime. I have been getting less and less items on Amazon, less Subscribe and Save items (not always cheaper either), and hardly ever watched Prime Video. Thank you for this video.

THAT was my biggest issue for not renewing after having prime for years! Super slow shipping even with prime. Also most of the vids are old or b quality at best. The other thing is the price increase. Funny how the prime service has almost doubled since it started, and the quality has gone down..like most things these days.

I have been spoiled by Amazon Prime for years. I buy monthly and can receive in 1-2 days for a lot. Prime Video rarely, sometimes Amazon music, Amazon Pharmacy is helpful. STILL, the new price is ONLY decent if paying annually if trying to budget, that hurts. BUT, for me, getting assistance allows me an immense discount. 5.99 monthly, and that will only increase by $1. I can do that! Thank you for your videos, always so helpful!

I would pay for it one month get all the items I need, Then cancel it the next month during the month that I cancel just put items in the cart that I want to get, sometimes if the cart is over $35.00 they ship for free if not I just wait until the following month and pick it up again..

I rely heavily on Amazon since I had to give up driving. I generally find what I need at a price that compares well with Walmart, Target, and other stores that provide free shipping with a minimum order. I watch Prime Video occasionally, and sometimes find a decent free book on their preview list. Mostly, it's about the shipping. I'll probably renew, but have until September to decide.

We use Amazon here on a daily basis especially for food and occasionally clothes. Prime Video isn’t worth it without all of the other perks it really isn’t. Most people are better off taking advantage of an actual membership. I'll probably cancel my membership when renewal time comes around. Amazon isn't in any way as good as it used to be. I rarely get things delivered next day anymore, more like two or three days, unless I'm lucky enough for them to use USPS then it's usually longer...if I get my package at all. Just in the past few months I've had two different items stuck at a warehouse location, Amazon's response is I can order another free of charge if I wish to. So I ordered the replacements both times only to have the original show up later. Not to mention the quality of items on Amazon has gone way down. I will no longer buy anything that can be tampered with i.e. shampoo or fabric softener.

    Michael,
I originally got Prime mostly for the streaming movies. Now that they've moved SO MANY MOVIES to their ad supported IMDB service, it's becoming less and less a value for me. I REFUSE to watch movies with ads when I'm paying for a service. I'm still able to squeak by with enough ad free movie and show watching through direct Prime, but now my subscription value relies more on the other services. The free shipping alone, along with the discounts from having their Visa, makes it now worth it for me. So much money saved on gas. If this didn't offset the balance in a major way, I would've dropped Prime. Time will tell if the monthly price hikes take their toll, but for now, Prime is still a good value for me.

We're done with Amazon in my household.
Amazon prime doesn't guarantee all videos are included in prime. Nor is all music content included. Fact not even the books. They all require separate fees if you want full Access.
Grocery , beauty , cold cough ect. commonly expired or near its expectation. Even pet food can be expired. Electronic items shipped partially opened or slightly used.
You have to purchase with great reservations. Run google searches prior to purchasing. Use the Google shopping filter to display results. You'll be amazed at how much money can be saved our side of Amazon. Keep in mind Amazon created eye candy convince store. With credit card purchasing and lets not forget tax free web purchasing. Well at the time if launching Amazon.
Consider this in your equations Credit cards earn interest. Web based purchased are now taxed. Most households over spend because easy to click and forget. Run your personal purchasing history of your past purchases.
Based in the additional price hike frim Amazon.
It woke me up and im shocked. Made the decision after watching this video for my household.
Amazon Prime week I'll sign up for 30 day trial. Or pay one month and cancel after Prime week.

Price hack to postpone the increase for the next year and extend your membership date, until your first order/use: Turn off your auto renewal of Prime membership, then buy the gift of prime prior to the price increase and hold it until your membership expires. Wait until you decide you want your first order and gift it to yourself and activate it, prior to order. This extends the start date of the service and you paid the pre-increase price for the membership.

price hikes to amazon might not be that common
But what makes me both concerned and a little dissapointed at amazon is that these price hikes have been coming at the consumer too much in waves
first it was the jump to 119
    and now this 139 price
maybe its because of a couple of factors that are forcing these hikes
if they had a little more confidence in both the consumer and paying their workers, they would Lower the prices to a reasonable price
they need to be rational, rather than charging the consumer more, they should pay their workers more

I have recently tried amazon prime videos. I find that most movies are not triple A type, they are cheaply made, with horrible and i mean horrible acting, so bad, no matter how hard I try to see one all the way through, I wind up giving up, because I just can immerse myself in them. I get totally distracted by the horrible acting. I don't blame the actors, as some of them are experienced actors. What I believe is happening is that they are just reading their lines, they are not given any time to rehearse them, nor get into the character. I believe this is to rush new content, as that is what plagues most streaming services, providing new content to viewers.

Not really! One of the areas I look at is their snack pricing. This past year I can't help but note how they jack prices after they see you buying some things almost immediately after you buy it. That's where it's at for me. They started doing this earlier after I bought a product for the 2nd time within a short period between purchases. Now, they immediately jacked the price of a jerky purchase I made, so buying it again would cost me at least $3 more for the same purchase. Virtually everything, snack item or not in my recent purchase history has been jacked up in price, some things as much as 50%, with most at least 10% more...

I have until June 2022 to decide if I should keep or dump, but the 2 day shipping is always late (I don’t have a close hub of Amazon in my state), yeah I have called up to complain and then get credit. My question is, if I cancel is my wishlist gone? What else disappears? Can we still use Alexa?
Thanks for this video, first time seeing it.

A couple other ways to save with Amazon is to get the Amazon Prime Credit Card which gets you 5% Cash back on purchases. And one of those purchases is your prime membership. Which brings the cost down to the $132 ($11 per month). And by taking the 5% as cash back (and applying it to your balance) instead of using it to buy more Prime stuff (which you would have bought anyway) it provides additional savings. I do think Prime is reaching that breaking point though and if it were to go above $150 I would personally have to take a hard look at it again. (I was lucky they my annual renewal was in December at the old price).

I like Prime Video because I can mix and match relatively low cost Prime Channels and they smoothly integrate with Prime Video itself. Along with Freevee, I get just about all the on-line content I want. It makes me wonder why I pay for Sling :) I should mention that I'm not a fan of original soap operas on streaming services. I am enjoying Billy the Kid on Prime but it's an exception.

The words "Amazon Prime" fill me with dread, and because I do not like Amazon's sly approach in hoodwinking Prime on to people with the free trial, fully expecting most customers to not remember to cancel it after 30 days, I deliberately avoid it on principle, and indeed Amazon as well wherever possible. I would rather shop on eBay. Many small items, the kind I buy, like electronics components, USB memory sticks, special screws and much more, nearly always have free postage included on eBay - in England at least. The way Amazon seduces us to go Prime is unconscionable and I'm astonished that they can still do it without interference from any regulatory authority.

For me prime is worth it for the shipping alone. I do so much shopping there that the price of shipping would be much more than prime. And the way I shop doesn't lend itself well to waiting until I have enough items to meet the minimum requirements for free shipping. I guess I'm a bit impatient, but the convenience factor is also a big part of the equation for me.

My wife and I both search for things on the same account at the same time and we found something out. We have a Prime Account. For some reason her settings have a Prime Free Delivery toggle. I don't. We were looking up a fuse box for a vehicle. She found it 88 dollars free delivery, shipped by Nov 28. I found it for 69 dollars with 17 dollars delivery, shipped by Nov 29 to Dec 4. Best case scenario, Prime gets your delivery there a bit quicker, but you are not saving on shipping. Is Prime a ripoff? One hundred plus dollars for movies?

I think we'll be cancelling our account. The shipping has gotten REALLY bad. This last year it's been taking 2-3x longer for packages to be delivered. This last Christmas was terrible. Items we ordered on 12/11 that were 2-day shipping didn't arrive until over a month later. That was when we considered cancelling. Now that the holiday season is over, it still hasn't improved. At a certain point we'd rather pay for shipping and get things on time. At least that way we get reimbursed for the cost of the shipping if an item is unacceptably late.

    Hi Michael,
    Thanks for putting this together.
I have a question, and it's likely not a mainstream one.
If someone has an annual prime membership, however tries to stream Amazon Originals out of the US with or without a VPN,
will they be blocked? I know Netflix Originals, and if I'm not mistaken Disney+ programming will work internationally.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, or perhaps using my question as a topic for a new video.
    Have a good week,

My father pays for Prime (we are in the UK) he's been paying £79 for a while now. In regards to buying things, the £79 works out a hell of a lot cheaper than not with prime for our household (paying for delivery) That's not to mention Video and Music that get heavy usage on top of that. In our household it's an absolute bargain considering how many utilize the service to be completely honest.

Not worth it for us. We don't watch or listen to any Amazon streaming services (mainly because our "High Speed" internet is little more than a trickle compared to city speeds.
We had Prime for faster delivery but have discovered that Prime delivery to us isn't any faster most of the time. We often get 2 day service out in the boonies with or without Prime.
Anything on Amazon that has an EXTRA delivery fee simply doesn't get ordered by us. There are far too many alternative products that do offer free delivery.
Guess we're spoiled now and there's no going back. It costs a fortune to gas up to go to the store. So, if it can't be delivered for free, we do without. No problem.
