Honestly I used Amazon during the COVID-19 crisis but now it’s like Nicole said “ when you put things in your cart and wait awhile you forget the urgency of wanting to have it.” I don’t have a membership. However because I’m disabled and cannot drive, I found the convenience handy, and used their ‘30 day free trail offer’ (only when the moon was blue)but I do use it sparingly and shop around in my area and shops that offer delivery. After COVID-19 they do! I would much rather give a local store $10.00 than Amazon.

I'm keeping Prime. I've cancelled it twice, and came back twice. People talk about buying locally, and I do that when I can. Then people talk about driving around to buy what I'm looking for. I don't drive. I don't own a car. I've been bicycling as my main transportation for over 40 years. I'm not riding all over town to find an item. I work 6 days/60 hours a week. I'm not waisting my time looking all over the place. I can't ride and buy three months worth of paper towels and get them home on my bike. It's a convenience tax, and I'm willing to pay it.

There's going to be exceptions, but there are a number of people who don't need the membership and may just be uninformed. If you ride your bike everywhere you probably live in or near a city, right? You may be close enough to just pick up smaller items, but not having a car is the real reason for this exception. Plenty of people own cars and live in the suburbs just 5 mins away from most major stores. Also, there are carts and ways to add storage to your bike. You could use free shipping for the larger items. Just my 2 cents.

I LOVE THIS VIDEO! My Prime membership was up for renewal in early Feb at $139.00 USD per year. I did not and will not renew - EVER. I can get everything I need from local stores or other online, LEGIT merchants. The last few items I purchased via Amazon were not the real thing but cheap knock-offs. Just one example: in January, I bought PowerStep insoles from Amazon. The ones they shipped were NOT authentic - not even close. I returned them and at that point made the decision to never pay for a Prime membership again. THANK YOU for this video - you are right on the money!

What gave you the impression that they are fake Powerstep insoles? I don't see that being a highly likely product to fake. Nikes or Hoka shoes sure, but not Powerstep. Even Superfeet insole perhaps as that is a much bigger name. So what makes you think they are fake?

I pay yearly. I think it's $139. And I don't have commercials in my movies. I think you got that part wrong. Amazon doesn't put commercials in movies. That's Freevie or Tubie or something where you can pay extra not to see the commercials.
I would just say if you want to rent movies sometimes, Amazon is a good option. They have nearly anything you can think of and you can be watching it in seconds at any time you feel like it. I live in a rural area. The nearest town is a 30 min drive away If I'm going into town to buy something I have to make sure the store has them in stock, which doesn't always work, I've had it happened several times this year which is a few gallons of gas and over an hour spent in the car. Amazon works better for me. I do check if I can get a better price elsewhere, and when I do, I buy it. But most of the time Amazon is either the same cost or cheaper.

So yeah, I often just order it off Amazon, and 99% of the time I get exactly what I need in a couple of days.

@@TammySmith-nb6se I've found that they usually are cheaper, or at worse the same as I could get locally but having to spend $10-$12 in gas and hour or two of my time to get it. I also get 5% cash back on the items I buy through Amazon, and that amounts to a few hundreds dollars a year.
I wish it wasn't so good, and I wish there were reliable locally owned businesses that could at least match the convience and price. But the reality is for a lot of people who don't live in or around big cities, Amazon provides the best selection and price.

So the free shipping kind of works for me. Fluorescent bulbs, printer labels, a broken bulb covering the light in the den, a can of gold spray paint, 10' USB extension cable, Paint Thinner, file boxes for that weekend closet cleaning, etc. All things I'm still using right noe, so no impulse buys. I do like shopping local, but when I needed to both both of my 4K cameras and my two Gimbals along with my RODE mics. No one in my area had anything I needed. My entire set up was available on Amazon and it worked out well for me. I used the Amazon lockers, not my front porch. 😊🤓Side note, Costco makes all of their money by membership. Great video thanks! I pay the Prime fee, it helps when I need a spare battery in the morning. 🤪👍😎

I actually want to get rid of our amazon prime account. I will move things to my cart , then move them to "save for later" so I'm not buying crap I don't need, or at least things I don't need immediately or in the near future. I do share the account though with my in-laws and they also use the prime video streaming. so since multiple people are using the 1 account, I don't mind keeping it I suppose. I am going to share this video in hopes they will change their minds. There have been times I needed specific vitamins that either CVS or Walmart either didn't have in stock, or it was way cheaper on amazon for the same thing, but in reality most of the time the opposite is true and it's not cheaper on Amazon. Thanks again for another great video.

Thank you for finally setting my mind at ease. A few years ago I tried Amazon Prime but canceled it after a few months. Lately, I have been tempted to resubscribe but the price seemed too high IMO. I don't watch much TV, and I can listen to music for free. Now I know. No it is not and will never be worth it. Like you, I've never paid for shipping. I either pick something from one of my wishlists to get the order to the minimum, or I purchase the item elsewhere. Or the item goes on a wishlist to wait for it's chance next time.

We do watch movies from PRIME and he has a lot of business purchases for clients that he wanted to keep his account for. Put a tickler reminder on his renewal time and will reassess the value and probably cancel his as well. Thx for being a POSITIVE influencer!! Not a dirty word!! Hehee

I recently ordered Revlon paraffin bath, and received cracked bath with melted wax inside and some missing parts.

In my area we have a ton of Amazon return stores - in most cases they have all the random stuff in giant bins for a set price that changes throughout the week, starting at 10 bucks and then if you go on 99 cent day it's literally just broken plastic and boxes of food with 2 weeks left before it expires. Pretty gross but preferable to landfills.

i cancelled when it got to 16.53 a month if you include taxes. The only reason I was still keeping it was for the shipping. I have saved hundreds of dollars since I cancelled amazon because as this video mentioned I really have to think about my purchases and it led me to the epiphany that I was buying a lot of things I either didn't need or I could get some where else for cheaper with slightly more effort.

Amazon is so convenient for me as I am disabled and going out to do “shopping” so difficult. I even use save-on-foods to get my groceries to my door. I will go out for example today for a medical treatment and I’ll stop by Walmart and grab maybe 3-5 items. It sucks having to depend on these services but they improve my quality of life. Even if/when the prices may be a bit more expensive. 😏

My friend's company wanted to cancel their contract with Amazon wearhouse after hearing all those rumors about horrible conditions. So he went kind of like an undercover boss to see for himself if it was true. He "worked" there for a few days, and talked to a lot of employees. Turns out it is not so bad, they start paying benefits right away, a lot of different shift options. He said it would be not so bad start job for a teen.

  • @chris7285

I'm actually only paying $6.99 per month for Amazon Prime but that's because I don't have health insurance. Not really a good thing, I know, but regardless of whether I'm paying $6.99 or the regular price, I still find it useful because I don't own a car and walking out here in the Arizona suburbs sucks! Not only is everything spread out but it's super hot out here. You get all hot and stinky within 6 minutes of walking. It would take me nearly 3 hours just to walk to Wal-Mart, shop, and then walk back home. I'd rather pay a business to bring my stuff to me than spend that much time walking. Time is the key benefit in this for me. I'd rather use that time reading a book or gettting home chores done.
In fact I do so much of my shopping online these days to avoid visiting shops. Why? Because people are quite unpleasant to deal with at grocery stores. We're all packed in like sardines in aisles and so many people throw temper tantrums these days over petty inconveniences that they deal with. Then you got the child-like mentality of some people fighting over a parking spot in the parking lot. I can avoid all that crap by simply ordering things online.
I'm willing to pay more to avoid the circus performance that people throw on the road while driving and at shops. I find myself less stressed out these days because I avoid this.
Look, I get that avoiding people isn't a healthy thing to do but as the Joker asked: "Is it just me or is it getting crazier out there?"
I get that not everyone is awful but times sure are changing, especially in my city. It's why I intend to move out into the country side. Even the suburbs are filled with crazies here and there.

I have one thing in my Amazon cart, it’s been there a couple of days. I also keep a list on Amazon of things I “want/need”. Keep a few small items you use on a regular basis. That way if your order is a few cents short, you can order one small items, tea, deodorant etc. But know your prices and only buy that item you know you will use. I wrote this before I got to the end of the video. 😂we said a lot of the same things!

As long as you a crafty and can repair things, it's a really good deal. First - things don't end up in the landfill and I do save a ton of $$. The auction company buys pallets of stuff and auctions off single items. It's a been a great win for us.

Having to DISAGREE. Been with Amazon Prime for 10+ years. Being a senior I pay $6.99 monthly for free shipping and movies. What I like when I do buy is SELECTION AND CONVENIENCE. Do you need a shirt in powder blue, size 3X (they have it) I need my monthly grocery staples (they have it) ETC. All at prices that are the same if not cheaper than local stores. Most of the orders arrive in 24 hours. Also i use the Amazon credit card and get 5%-6% back on every purchase. (make sure you pay it off monthly) Returns ? print out a shipping label, go down to my local UPS store and DROP it off. It's a win-win for me.

They've figured out how to stiff you on the $35 or more free shipping also. They'll say that something in your order is not an Amazon product, which will automatically add the $6.99 shipping to your total. I've spent over $35 several times and called them to get the same excuse along with the push to subscribe. They suck. But since I don't always buy things multiple times within every single month from Amazon, I feel like I still come out ahead without their membership. I also find their streaming service as lame as most streaming services. If it's not sex, violence or just depressing, there is simply nothing uplifting or intelligent on TV or streaming services. None of them are worth the time or money.

Amazon is to Temu and Aliexpress what Target is to Walmart. Slightly more upscale version of the same thing. It's an online flea market. That said, it has its uses. Niche stuff. I get my 3D printing and airbrush supplies from there, as nobody sells them locally. Otherwise, I'd have to drive 20-30min to the next town over. But yeah, I've ditched most of my subs. Netflix got the boot once I realized I was only using it to watch reruns of 90s Star Trek. Xbox Game Pass went next because I did the math, and it cheaper just to buy what I was actually playing. Prime and Sirius XM are my last holdouts. Both will be going in the very near future.

I think most of the prices are ok if you look (I check against Walmart, etc.), but the biggest problem is just being able to push a button with little thought. Add to that the addiction to credit cards much of society has, and it's a recipe for some serious overspending. Still, if you have some self control, it's a pretty great service in many respects. Humorously I was buying books from Amazon way back in 1995 thinking "this is pretty cool...I don't even have to go to the book store". Who knew.

Been in those bad habits and been though these thoughts too. #1 thing to do is to not buy any of those drop shipping crap because they're marked up so much with shipping and returns (loss) calculated in. After a year of only buying the essentials, I've analyzed the numbers and decided to keep my prime membership, because the 5% cashback outweighs the membership price. If local business cost exactly the same on those items, then free shipping is saving me gas money.
