I haven't failed to notice the amount of commitment you and Megan apply to this activity...still working full time playing with scales and picky, whiny people, and I mean, we've seen you taking Atkins pizza out of the oven after 11pm. I for one greatly appreciate the effort!
After watching Brian and "camera crew" I had to have this plane. I ordered it yesterday from Brian's link. I hope he gets credit. He is my "go to" for all RC airplane information. The best out there as far as I am concerned. I hope to meet him some day. Thanks, Brian, for another great job of "build and review".
This channel's depth of knowledge and experience is amazing. It has a perfect level of detail and fantastic teaching. It is the best on RUclips by far. Thank you! I will always use one of your links to access my purchases.
We really appreciate the kind words, Thanks! We hope to be able to keep putting out even better content, and love bringing our audience all the latest RC goodies!
Brian, It's an ADF antenna. I learned to fly in the Beech D-18 s. Glad to see Eflite come out with this model. Been waiting for someone to come out with one for years. Hope you enjoy flying it as much as I did learning to fly the full size one.
Beautiful plane. Leading edge devices are called de-icing boots. Aerodynamic shaped antenna in the back is the ADF one. Keep up with your videos. I love them
Beautiful video, no issues and really looking forward to getting this plane. As a newer RC Pilot, I rely very much on the information you share and appreciate to format you chose to share the info in. Great job, keep up the good work.
Brian, please take 5 minutes and make a user list of audio events on your NX8. It will make setting them up much less painful for you and us. Takes a little effort, but once done will make programming audio event’s much less frustrating. Pro-tip: the list will appear in the order you create it, so good idea to make the list with common event’s next to each other ie: gear up/gear down, AS3X/SAFE MODE, Throttle Cut on/ Throttle Cut off etc etc. That way it’s very quick to set them up with minimal scrolling. By the way, enjoy your videos. One of those who watches them start to finish. Always look forward to seeing new content. Yes, I do have too much time on my hands!
The Avian ESC manual states to set the brake force to 7 to bring the motor to a stop before selecting reverse thrust. Setting it to 0 means there is no delay and stresses the motor and prop assembly.
We can tell you know what your talking about. The word you were looking for is De-ice Boots. Most turboprop or prop planes have them. Jets just use the hot bleed air to deice them! Great video!
Mégan Phillips. But how lucky is your husband, that it is you who film all his tests so well.. Congratulations Madame, it's really good work, I don't know what camera you are filming with, but it's super pretty to see, and then your Husband and a handsome Boy too ! Merci depuis la France .
Hey Brian, I hope you, CC and kids are all well. That is one beautiful plane! It's on my to get list. I just completed my maiden of my HK Avios King Twin 1700. I can't wait to get the D18 to see if it has the same power. I don't want to get you and CC in trouble with your sponsers but the plane is gorgeous and you would love it as you do the D18!! Outstanding vid as usual.
It is the most vulnerable of the items too, but to be honest, I've only had one screw up (knock on wood) and otherwise just used to it now...but especially with audio events, we try to show this all "Stock" but man-o-man it would be nice to make a custom list and show scrolling through 3-4 options - LOL
Brian Phillips does a good job with out a manual or a standard to follow for reverse thrust or differential throttle. He created a standard for himself that works for him. I did not see him show us how he created differential thrust which is done traditionally with two throttle levers. I think he uses the left stick which moves the rudder and reduces RPM on the inboard prop. I think he uses two free mixes for rudder to left motor and rudder to right motor. I hope that the new Dual ESC can display the RPM of each prop so we can match the RPM at any throttle setting. There is no automatic synchronization or phase sensing so there will be a mismatch on RPM and noise due to no prop phasing like most 1960 and newer Lockheed C-130 H to J series designs.
This looks absolutely great Brian. I'm really liking this twin. And we don't have to wait long to get it (hopefully) it says pre order is due in Sept. I hope the regular order doesn't have the dimples in the foam, remember the twin otter? Lol That one had some dimply foam up close.
Hopefully the new Avian “Lite” ESC will provide equal rpm to each motor so there is equal thrust from low to high throttle use. My EC1500 has two ESC’s and the thrust differs between the two motors. In flight you do no notice it that much but on a yaw test apparatus it is easy to see how the model yaws left or right from low to high thrust settings. Like the Beech 18 the EC1500 has counter rotating props and helps reduce yaw from prop thrust over the fin and from gyroscopic forces.
Just ordered mine from your link! As per the manual the outside elevator hole is correct. What size are the tires? I want to add low bounce pneumatic tires
Low bounce would be perfect, and a great idea. I've been fighting to get them to add them on stock BNF planes. They could get them sooooo much cheaper and make it a normal thing....like the FMS crawlers we've been reviewing...can you imagine how freaking sweet that would be!!!!!!!!
Don't forget to PRE-ORDER before 9/16/2022 to get a coupon code via email for HALF OFF the 5000mAh 4S and IC5 to IC3 adapter!!! This is by far the BEST size battery for this plane, and we'll cover it in our "Second Thoughts" coming soon. Beechcraft D18 bit.ly/3x7dRea
Watched the whole video to see how you do the weight and balance before I maiden mine. Manuel is a bit confusing maybe it’s just me. Hope you do a weight and balance video.
Boot not bladder - it does not hold liquid it inflates with either bleed or pumped air - sometimes a liquid in sections to crack the ice off root to tip in sequence
Hi Brian. I just assembled my D18 today. Question? The plane is labeled and has front and rear antenna tubes. I see you used the rear tube in your video. Reception wise is there a difference between front or rear placement? I didn't see any mention in the manual about this. Thanks.
Hey Brian. Awesome plane. I got a ? About timber evolution. Aileron servo went out. I put 1 in I had from other plane. But they are both moving in the same direction. Why is this
Great build video as usual but the book is kind of confusing as to the CG have you shown how to properly mark the CG and as far as the differential thrust did you set it up with the avian program box on the esc I saw on video you mentioned the rudder part of the program box
We don't even have a manual still - LOL! We got these samples without any literature - we were more than a little annoyed. As for the CG - try to copy what I did with the battery, if you wish. 5000mAh 4S is the BEST size for this bird, and add a little extra expo on elevator and you'll be good to go!
This for sure! 100% Hands down. you'll have fun with the P-51, no doubt, but this plane is way nicer!!! (But it's more money too, so unfair fight) bprc.me/Beechcraft
Audio Events - It's really hard to hear the difference between Throttle Cut ON and Throttle Cut OFF. I prefer "Throttle Cut" and "Motor On". Much easier to hear the difference. Much less confusion also. I'm easily confused and pretty dense sometimes, so does Throttle Cut On mean the motor runs or not? To me Motor ON or Motor Armed can only mean the props are gonna turn. Thanks for the build and fly videos. Love how good this Beachcraft D18 Flies!
I'm curious whether this model would fly well with no stabilization using non-Spectrum gear, including how to get differential thrust linked to rudders without a Spectrum mixing device.
Brian, you were looking at your elevator taper. Did your kit come with a wooden template? If so, that's what you use to get that elevator correct. I have not seen anyone use that wooden piece yet to set their elevator up. So, I don't know if it's in every box. Just wondering.
Hey Brian I'm hoping you can help me it's because of you I got into the RC planes and I just got a warbird 800 mm F4U Corsair I'm having trouble flying this one I can fly my other ones this one I haven't flown it yet it just keeps crashing but I was wondering what are my stick priorities supposed to be set at I just looking through my nx6 and it says the rolls 160 pitch 160 in yours 160 is that normal thank you for any help on how to fly this thing
So my buddy bought this plane now that's it available, he got the PNP version. He doesn't use a Spektrum radio or a Spektrum RX. When you set up this plane (dual ESC's) you used the programming box because you wanted REVERSE THRUST, you found out later in the video that DIFFERNTIAL THRUST was already activated. I told him diff thrust is already activated by the manufacturer but he insist's that it will only be available if he uses a Spektrum radio and Spektrum RX and buys the little programming box. So again, is it already turned on but only available if you use Spektrum TX & RX or will it be usable with other hardware? Thx in advance
This is controlled as a function of the SMART ESC and SMART Rx. I'm not 100% sure if you can command the DIFFERENTIAL THRUST with a "non-SMART" rx, since this is using the Rudder Signal to produce the differential. This being said, I know you can use TWO separate ESC's and accomplish differential thrust, if you wish. I hope I answered your quesiton fully.
My ESC has a high pitched tone that is constant like yours is doing. Setup per instructions. Reset to defaults. Loaded setup from Spektrum. Still makes the tone. Pulled elevator and rudder servos, went quiet. For a minute. Frustrating. All functions work.
It's not your ESC. It's the noise the servos make. Digital servos make a lot of corrections, and this CAN make a audible resonant frequency. You should hear the Carbon Z Cub SS OR the Carbon Z Cessna 150T if you think this is loud ;)
