When I was a Kid, my grandpa was an A&P and worked out of a skydiving center that had 2. I can’t tell you how many”missions “ I flew as a kid in the hot Georgia sun. The heat usually won the day. Love an old Beech 18. Got to fly a handful of times with the jump zone owner a few times during Boogies. You haven’t lived till you take off with 4 or 5 people hanging on the outside of the plane.

The Beechcraft 18 looks really cool considering its light weight and size. I think it's good for short distance flights, but I don't think it's good for long flights.

The main thing is that it doesn't wobble too much inside :)

Maybe not... But once upon a time you could make a ton of money flying night air freight in Beech 18's. And making MONEY is what that airplane was all about.

:) happy to say i was lucky enough to have started my skydiving out of these, yes your suit will get oil spray if you`re outside, and the door is a bit tight, and once a jug went out at 6-700` at take-off but we made it down with shaky knees. and the beech called the checker-board beech was able to jump from for a while but i had never been in an otter or caravan so i was fine, good memories with this plane.

Although most of my jumps were out of a Twin Otter.
Actually, it's a Super Otter with souped up engines, that the DZ bought at DEA auctions. Those cocaine smugglers can afford to soup up the engines on their planes, so when the DEA confiscates them, they sell them off. Is these aircraft are set up with air conditioning and a roll up door, as well as headphones, that have pilot to jump master communication, along with any other necessary announcements, that all can hear, as well as stereo music in between. Say what you want about Florida, they have the best jump planes! The Pilatis Porter is another I have made many jumps from.
I have had some jumps out of a beach craft craft, When visiting an Oregon DZ.
Nice plane overall, A little louder and slower than I was used to, but relatively comfortable. the only complaint I had, was that "shin buster" door.
The last thing you want on exit, is your shin scraped across the bottom of an aluminum frame (ouch!).
I had a fun week with my friends and that Beach Craft, but I think in the future, I'll stick to my turbo props (Damn, I am one spoiled skydiver).🤙

@@sussekind9717 lol ahh yes the porter! we had that for 2 yrs., jungle plane, BUT anything but comfy :) , i`m a little bit leggy and maxed out with jumpers it sucked i did enjoy workin out of it , and i think it was called a caribou, or maybe a buffalo, you could stand straight across from the pilot and co. seat on the wing, safely, right side exit like the porter but we had jumped from both sides on the porter at the same time. fla., did you ever jump with bird ?

I worked for Beech for 8 years in Boulder, Colorado. Made a lot super 200s. If you look in the nacelle number tag I polished every one. My tag!

Great video! Thanks for sharing! Question...Did all Beech 18's require the spar reinforcement strap or only certain models? It looks like the airplane in the video didn't have one.

The correct reason for the fabric control surfaces was 2 fold, first and foremost weight savings and 2nd to save aluminium. the fact that a bullet would go through it with little damage was just a freebee!

Many, including me, thought the first airplane Sky King flew before the Cessna 310 was a Beech 18. Not so. It was a Cessna UC-78B Bobcat.

While I love the content you guys upload, can someone explain why a LOT of your content is not available to watch in west Europe? Even some docus about european things say "not available to watch in your region". I don't get it. I hope this can be resolved in the future. Thanks

Your shotgun patterns well at that distance. 👍. Have you considered using #4 buckshot indoors? I tend to shy away from using 00 buck indoors as it can over penetrate and if you’ve got loved ones in the house that’s a consideration to keep in mind. Good video man. Be safe.
