Just an update on the knocking sound. Toyota has said there is a problem and they are now investigating. We recently tested a Sahara ZX (review coming soon) and it also had the knocking sound. Statement from Toyota below: Full details: www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/toyota-investigating-landcruiser-300-series-knocking-noise “Toyota Australia has identified that on some LC300 vehicles, a light knocking noise may emanate from the front steering area whilst driving at low speed over small corrugations. “This is not detrimental to the operation of the steering or the vehicle. We have requested our Dealers report any instances of this occurring, to further support our investigation into this phenomenon,” it said.
Great review. Really good job. However i hope you also informed Toyota about the rolling problem that you faced with the e-KDSS. It's very clear in your review that it rolls as much as the VX version that is not equipped with it. So it should be something wrong either with this very car or with this system in general. In this case, I reckon that maybe the knocking noise could be the result of the disfunction of the e-KDSS. Who knows :)
As far as I know, that suspension knock or "popping" sound coming from the front (especially when you are turning the wheel, or articulating) is pretty common on off-road Toyota trucks and SUVs. There is an extension off the lower ball joint housing. It is a steering stop that is meant to interface and make contact with the reinforcement on the lower front wishbone. So when you are turning, it can make a contact at some instances. I think the idea is that it is better to have the two pieces making contact rather than the hydraulic rack and pinion binding up within itself.
The crazy thing is even at this VERY high price point there are plenty of people ordering them. Goes to show the economy is going well for the top end of town.
A very neat review Paul. Great overall. I take it the rear seats no longer recline as far on the new one as they did in the old one. It's my favorite new LC in terms of looks. The lack of a split tail gate, or at least giving the option, is disappointing. It was a versatile design having the split tailgate.
With KDSS, I may be wrong but what i understand is how the system works on a paved road it keeps the vehicle body as horizontal as possible. Then when going off road in the ditches and ruts it promotes wheel articulation for improved grip. So maybe the GR-S had more body roll but it could have been kept in the horizontal where as the ZX grade or non e-KDSS variant the suspension compression maxed out on the turn in the banked corner.
Great Review thanks - I love the look of the new Land Cruiser GR but it will be interesting to see if it is $60,000 better than the incoming TD V6 Ford Everest...?
Landcruiser would surely be Toyota's highest profit unit. Not to many farmers & graziers will come at the new model pricing and that's the market that helped them build their name in Oz. That won't worry Toyota as I imagine the Middle East will take as many as they can make. Fleet buyers with post Covid skinny budgets will be looking at other options.

Love to know if the KDSS was faulty on yours. If it greatly improved on road dynamics it may be worth the extra over Sahara and have been waiting for review like this to decide on order, if not what a joke. I doubt any more than 1% of buyers actually take a $150k car anywhere off-road that the non-kdss models couldn't easily cope with.
KDSS is like comparing Rubber to GOLD. No comparison. That device is Pure Brilliance. They put it Standard on the older 200 Series GXL Petrols, because No one wanted PETROL.
I hope it was faulty because it definitely didn't improve the handling. We just shot a Sahara ZX review (using the same corner) and it too doesn't have e-KDSS and felt much more compliant than the GR Sport.
It had to have had a problem, as when we did a test drive, it went up a very windy hill just like our Holden Redline V8 ..loved it. Would like to know what happened too
Hey Paul. Nice review. Have you seen any of the new Landcruisers on the road yet? And if you have, how many were driven by cityslickers on the school run lmao!
It being exclusive...and a couple of other features, is what you are paying for. Aftermarket diff locks have caused issues (minor at the beginning)...then 1 diff lock replacement and new rear diff. recntly on our 100 series. We are SO over aftermarket mods like the diff locks.
Hi. I just wanna know a bit about tire information. So the GR land come with stock 265/65R18.. I just wonder .. can I upgrade it to 285/65/18.. or 285/70/17.. if I can do.. do I need to change some of the suspension kits? And if I go with 285 /65R18, will the steering have any problems or not ? Thx you
Hey Paul. Thanks for the review again. Can you please review new 2022 Hyundai Kona. Waiting for your review as I am considering Kona in few months. Thanks a ton.🙏
Had my gr for 3 months now . 2 issues, lane assist obtrusive and needs override switch, permanently. Sometimes feels like engine hunting but told by Toyota software upgrade on first service will sort that out. Tend keep mode in sports plus as car firms nicely on long hauls and feels better planted , comfort mode on normal gravel and town driving perfect. Did find body roll on car very surprising , especially on long fast corners……. That’s my biggest disappointment. Took it for some serious off-roading in the Karoo all I can say it that new suspension is everything Toyota promise and more. Build quality inside and panel fit outside in my opinion top class. Long haul drives in this vehicle erases driver fatigue, it’s really noticeable, I’ve got the diesel , my mate got the petrol , we going to swap and compare. Gear shifts crisp but on some steep short twisty tar stuff and hunt into lower ratio than needed and I go to manual shifts. Infotainment system ok , not that intuitive, jbl sound system great . Btw the cars Wi-Fi always surprises teenagers we cart around .

Hi Paul, your review is awesome! But this LC 300 series is rediculously expensive keeping into the mind the notable body roll and inefficient E- KDSS system. Moreover, the car looks pretty bland and basic in terms of Interior aesthetics. The only good thing though is, power train. I think this will be the only USP of the GR Land Cruiser.
Hi Paul, I have ordered "just" the Sahara, the dealer here in Adelaide tells me most orders are for the Sahara. Would love to see a test of this vehicle!
I would love a fair $ for $ comparison this being a y62 TI-L VS LC 300 GX People should know the top of the line patrol is same cost as entry level land cruiser.
When nissan came out people complained about the price, so the look stayed the same, now we gonna have another group of penny pinchers complaining about prices again instead of moving on to their budget, ruin it for others
Is that seat bolster adjustment, or lumbar support adjustment? It would be rare to find bolster rather than lumbar, typically it’s the other way round or both. Also, is that faux leather as it sure looks like it - doesn’t look like real leather? My Land Rover has a 9 speed auto and I never have hunting issues/problems. Many people seem worried about having “too many” gears. More gears is always better - unless the gearbox is poorly configured and hunts around.
Toyota is asking ALOT of money for this thing, we are talking BMW X7 sort of money without BMW X7 sort of luxury. I get it, this thing will take on the outback with ease, but unless you live rural or do some intense off road driving, I don't see the appeal at this price point. The third row doesn't even offer decent space...Also I get reliability, but is that worth 40K over a Patrol?!
@@denero4735 That's just simple not true, the BMW and Merc will comfortably last 5 years. Mercedes has a 5 year warranty so thats a pretty moot point. Secondly It would take 40 years for the Patrol's extra fuels costs to break even with the Landcruiser.
Hello @CarExpert ,i know it late but did you get any feedback about the GR sport body-roll because I reserved one and if it has more body-roll with E-kdss then i would go with the ZX honestly. Thanks!
The pricing for the GR is crazy, the “GR off-road model” should be priced above, but preferably below the GXL… not real keen on dropping 140k PLUS 10-20k in accessories and then go bash it off-road… not even that keen to wreck my 5yo Hilux off-road at half the money.
I share those sentiments and I live in the rurals, down a dirt road, across a creek, surrounded by bush & forest trails. No way I would put that kind of dosh down just to have it knocked about. Great for those with a surplus of $$$$$'s though.
Just got my GR Cruiser - and are very impressed with the comfort and easy display. Love the car !!!
Good to hear, its so confortable and quiet, compared at least to a Prado and 70 series. Its a Rolls Royce of old….

It had to have had a problem, as when we did a test drive, it went up a very windy hill just like our Holden Redline V8
..loved it.
Would like to know what happened too
Did you get any feedback on the kdss?
Curious to know why it did that
@@bhavyashah9380 me too
I love the land cruiser specifically the GR sport
Great Review Paul
Any news from Toyota regarding the knocking noise?
I pre ordered my LC300 GR back in June 2021 still waiting for it.
Donuts from Toyota - just that they’re investigating. We had another car this week and it had the same knocking sound.
I like the color, exterior paint,i love gr sport car like Toyota land cruiser zx 2023. 6:36
Hey Paul. Nice review. Have you seen any of the new Landcruisers on the road yet? And if you have, how many were driven by cityslickers on the school run lmao!
I’ve seen a couple! All in the burbs :-)
Seen two in QLD
Saw a 300 Sahara... turning into a posh eastern suburbs shopping centre here in Adelaide - first one I've seen driving.
I saw one for the first time the other day. Think it was a gxl. Had to have a second glance because I thought it was a 200 lol
Great review Paul wish I had a spare 150k be good if you could get the lockers as an option on lower spec models
Agree! It’s a shame front/rear diff locks aren’t available on lower models.
It being exclusive...and a couple of other features, is what you are paying for. Aftermarket diff locks have caused issues (minor at the beginning)...then 1 diff lock replacement and new rear diff. recntly on our 100 series. We are SO over aftermarket mods like the diff locks.
Love the look of this. If only I had $140K to buy one.
Thx you
2 years later I'm not seeing a pinned comment explaining the front end knock.
When do we get a GXL review? Probably the most achievable purchase for families!
As soon as I can get my hands on one :-)
Another wicked review, Thank you and Merry Xmas!!
Thanks you too!
Insane price for an irresistible machine
Hey Paul. Thanks for the review again. Can you please review new 2022 Hyundai Kona. Waiting for your review as I am considering Kona in few months. Thanks a ton.🙏
Thanks for watching! Will try and track one down, but unlikely to be until Q1 next year.
Great review as always.
Thanks again!
What a Rip...Thanks Paul, you've just saved me alot of $$
I still find it hard to believe that Paul is taller than all the cars he reviewed, mind boggling i tell ya.
TJM has built a nice 300 with their accessories. They've been producing parts. I'd go base model and visit TJM if buying a 300.
To all the legends watching in 2023 ❤
Apart from the horrendous red leather details it’s a marvellous looking car
The alloys look like from a base model cheap car, which is very disappointed. Can we choose different alloy design?
Hi Rob when did you place your order? I placed my order for one GR in August, the expected delivery month is late Feb 2022. But with the latest news about another Toyota factory shut downs, I’m not sure if they are going to make the stated delivery date. Sigh!!! Anyways good to see that people actually took delivery of one!!!
@@shaoi88 story going to make you mad , I called a dealership early September 2021, they had a cancellation that week, I picked my car up 5 days later …….my mate with his petrol gr, races for GR Toyota Japan , so he got “ special “ delivery early September. I hear deliveries begin too trickle in few and far between late 2022 January ( but I live in South Africa …..) . The only 2 I’ve seen in and around is mine and my mates petrol GR . Stopped every day and asked how did I get my gr …….
@@rob5521 lucky you. Here in Melbourne we haven’t seen any delivery as far as I know. Sigh! I know you guys even have seven seat GR sport. We only have five seat version for zx and gr, sigh!!
Thanks for that feedback Rob - glad you're enjoying the new wheels!
@@shaoi88 worth the wait , i promise
Hi Paul, your review is awesome! But this LC 300 series is rediculously expensive keeping into the mind the notable body roll and inefficient E- KDSS system. Moreover, the car looks pretty bland and basic in terms of Interior aesthetics. The only good thing though is, power train. I think this will be the only USP of the GR Land Cruiser.
A few build quality issues, not a fan of the GR labels everywhere...prefer Sahara. Thanks for the detailed review.
What ever all believe but this is the best luxury of roader
Hi Paul, I have ordered "just" the Sahara, the dealer here in Adelaide tells me most orders are for the Sahara. Would love to see a test of this vehicle!
Looks like most will be driven to shopping centres, like the one I saw today pulling into Burnside Village lol!
Hey Brian! We have a review of the fancy pants Sahara coming early next year. We couldn't find a regular Sahara, so we had to land on the ZX.
how do you think this compares to the new defender? which one would you buy?
Great review. Not sure about the car though as it seems they didn't think it through well enough. That fuel filter looks too exposed.
Wonderful video again
plain and direct
Love from INDIA.
Thanks for watching!
It's about time 👌👌
Great review Paul. Thoughts on the HUD?
For Toyotas launching a sporty version of a certain model means picking a base model and adding sporty elements to the car.
My Favourite Toyota!
The most incredible off-roader of all the time, thanks for the vid
I would love a fair $ for $ comparison this being a y62 TI-L VS LC 300 GX
People should know the top of the line patrol is same cost as entry level land cruiser.
Yes and Petrol is $2 Per Litre 🤦🏻♀️
@@denero4735 I can buy a lot of fuel with a $40,000 saving
🤣🤣🤣 $137000 before on road costs for a Toyota. The price jumped extra $12000-$15000 extra. 😳 honstly I would definitely recommend Nissan Patrol.
It’s much more affordable!
Bite your tongue
@@robyncrighton1255 😝😝😝
Sorry yes, lumbar adjustment only. And on the leather front, I *think* it's leather, but I need to triple check.
Great review!
It needs another set of tires, bigger and more off roady to meet the body size.
Would look cool with a big set of wheels!
nice review❤️
can you review
the mercedes benz A class?
We will try!
There is no third row 😅
@@CarExpertAus my bad 😅 but I was really disappointed with the 3rd row in the 7 seat versions!
@@CarExpertAus South Africa has a model of the GR with rear seats and a cool air compressor inbuilt
Yes and the BMW doesn't last 5 years nor Mercedes. Cost of servicing? Patrol will cost you 30+K with +$2 a litre coming 2022 Aus.
@@denero4735 That's just simple not true, the BMW and Merc will comfortably last 5 years. Mercedes has a 5 year warranty so thats a pretty moot point. Secondly It would take 40 years for the Patrol's extra fuels costs to break even with the Landcruiser.
The best car ever made
Paul, this vs the new V6 Raptor. Which one would recommend and why?
I can't find anything that justifies the huge price tag!!
Nicely explained well explained .. unfortunately, most of these features are there in a BMW X 5 from 2015 - or even much more
except the X5 can't go off-road
The 200 series was 15 years old with an update halfway through that life
Even if I had LC300 money- (which I don’t) I’d still end up owning a modest Fortuner- or if I’m feeling lucky; a Prado.
Great videos!
Ordered a GX-L
And yes the LC300 will outsell the LR Defender 20 to 1
