    Nice work on this install video. The new G5 GB extension looks great and nice to see. I run the GB extension on my Mach Z(G4) with the cell phone holder which works nicely too. I have been running the automotive Garmins for 8 years now on all my sleds and those cheaper models have never had any issue with cold temps or freezing screens as commented below. I have been running a Drivesmart 66(6 inch) the past two seasons with perfect success. I have always mounted my Garmins on the riser clamp bolts for ease of use and close viewing.
    Thanks for the great video showing this all. I have got so many questions about wiring over the years on dootalk it's nice to see a video for everyone showing the solenoid clearly. I can't tell you how many times I see people running the hot wire to one side and ground to other side of solenoid, and wonder why it does not work properly! Always run ground wire to chassie guys. Nice work. -Rockerdan

      Thanks for watching Dan! I probably got that tip from you years ago on Dootalk :-) I used to run the NUVI's and never had issues either. Garmin make great products - I don't think you can go wrong with any of them but I doo love this new Zumo XT. The display is crisp and its fast. I used to run them on the bars, but it's not as good of a view compared to running it on the glovebox. I don't want to look down - I want the GPS in my line of sight. That's the beauty of the Polaris gauge and even this new 10.25" display on my 850 is night and day better but having the Garmin on the glovebox is the perfect spot. Cheers buddy, Mike

      @@sledaddicz I hear ya, i do like my cell phone heated holder and it's position high and center. I typically don't have to watch GPS but when coming to intersection ect. I do like to tap on it at times though which is one drawback of the newer automotive(Drivesmart) series since they are all now capacitive touch(like a smartphone). My older 2797 and even Nuvi's in that respect was nice with the pressure touch system. But wow the clear glass screen is so much more hi res then the old matte screens. Garmin certainly does all this best. I really love that newest Zumo, it has a cool MP3 feature too which i love and can hold up to 1000 mp3 files if I recall, nice for music! I just had wished for a larger zumo(7" would be sweet spot for sled IMO) but likely wont happen as most Motorcycle guys want this 5.5 ish size for mounting to their bikes.
      I did find buds new 10.25 screen when plugged in to smartphone/BRP GO app looks really nice! Large screen for GPS toward right side, and works well in and out of service(Must DL maps ahead of time for area). Ride sharing is OK at best, as service is in/out it gets annoying seeing buddy pop on/off. LOL
      But in the end, DOO needs to simply add an antenna and corresponding software(ala Polaris) to bring the experience to where it needs to be. I just hope it doesnt take as long for this last step as it did waiting for LED headlights...lol
      Keep up the great work Mike!😁

    Very nice video. I know this is a year old. The Garmin XT2 is out. Do you know if the XT2 mounts the same way as the XT. It looks like the XT2 mount that has the 4 screw holes is premounted to a ball. I'm wondering if that ball is removeable so it can be mounted like you did with the XT. Thanks.

    • @sledaddicz
      @sledaddicz  28 дней назад

      Hey Tim! I believe the ball is removable however the XT2 is slightly too big for the glovebox extension. Our recommendation is now the Garmin Tread 5.5" which is basically identical to the Zumo XT but because its geared to off road vehicles as opposed to cars/motorcycles, it includes access to more topographic features as well as built in snowmobile trail mapping. Cheers, Jesse

    I use the same Zumo XT, great GPS for snowmobiling. Will this unit fit the Gen 4 glove box extension as well?

  • @bigguydiy2184
    @bigguydiy2184 Год назад

    I have the same Garmin Zuma XT. I did a video installing mine into a Aqua Box because I found when the temps get in the single digits, the screen begins to drop colors or starts to freeze up. Being in the Aqua Box, the unit stays warm under it's own heat a tad longer. If it's really bad, I have room to put in hand warmer packets on each side. I did ride last weekend in the Polar Vortex temps of -14F for a high, zero issues with the screen that day, hands though....another story.
    If your going to use a Micro SD card with maps already installed, you will need to go into Setting, Maps, MyMaps, turn off all the maps Garmin has put in and leave on only trail maps. You may or may not see a double "Snowmobile Trails" maps, both should be selected.
    Lastly DO NOT LEAVE THE GARMIN ON THE SLED OUTSIDE OVERNITE!! I made that mistake with my Zumo XT Garmin. The screen froze up and did not show correctly. Otherwise, it's a great unit!!!

    • @sledaddicz
      @sledaddicz  Год назад +1

      Hmm we have used our garmins in -40C before and it's never frozen or let us down. Yep we know all about the mapping as we pre plan all our trips and have them on the gps ready to go. Interesting that it froze over night - I wouldn't know because I've always brought it inside. To expensive to leave on the sled. Cheers, Jesse

Iam now thinking I should do it this way too with that same mounting attachment that came with the Garmin. I always thought I should power it that way also. Going to take another look at for sure. Can you put a parts list in the description with links? Zumo® XT 5.5" Motorcycle Navigator but do you need to buy the Motorcycle Mount Bracket? Maybe you could list the unit, the card required for the trails, the glove box extension, if theres a bracket required and the automotive connector bought at crappy tire.

    • @sledaddicz
      @sledaddicz  Год назад

      Hey Matt. The zumo xt comes with almost everything you need. Depending on where you live, there are different providers of the maps. Trakmaps (trakmaps.com) does most of Canada. The glovebox extension is available on ski-doo's website if you just search it (ski-doo.com). No bracket is required - that all comes with the gps. The connectors are a bit tougher as we have lots of stuff in the garage so just put some stuff together. Let me know if you have any other questions! Always happy to help. Cheers, Jesse

    Great video, thanks for sharing….wondering on a Gen4 if connecting a Zumo xt2 electrical off the BRP plug under the glove box currently used for my USB outlet (via a splitter) would work as opposed to connecting down to the solenoid?
    Thanks

    • @sledaddicz
      @sledaddicz  Год назад +1

      Hey Kevin. Yes that would totally work. I think we talk about this in the video, but the main reason we don't use the ski-doo plug n play connections for our GPS's is because when you turn off the sled the gps loses power and will likely turn off soon after. Often times I look at my gps at the side of the trail when we are stopped and thats why we wire it to the battery for consistent power. We just take it off at lunch and at the end of the day to not drain the battery. Been running this setup for the past 7 years on 10 different sleds and it works great. Cheers, Jesse

      @sledaddicz  Год назад +4

      Yes but unfortunately that defeats the purpose.. The reason we wire it to the solenoid is so it has constant power, that way when we turn off our sled on the side of the trail the GPS doesn't shut off. Cheers, Jesse

    What was the previous version of Garmin you were running? I've got Rev-XS and need GPS. The Zuma specs for use and charging have temps above what we ride in, but I assume you've not had issues with the older one or this XT?
