This song makes me and my Dad cry every time, my mum passed when I was 2 weeks old and me and Dad are best friends and he adores Elbow. ‘Throw those curtains wide’ relates to so many people going through struggle, clear those cob webs out! ‘1 day a year’ if only we could spend that with her again… beautiful
She spends every day with you…it’s up to you to decide to throw the curtains wide love…🤍🌬🤍🔒🌬🤍
You and your old man keep throwing them curtains wide shes waiting for you both xx
I played this song at my sons funeral he was going to take me to see them never got the chance he was murdered at the age of 35 6yrs ago miss him so much ❤❤❤❤❤

Take care ❤
This is the absolute quintessential "sun going down over the Pyramid stage" song. Honestly it's just perfect.
and Glastonbury tower in the background, to make it even more perfect. Lovely song this.
I was going to make a comment…no need, yours summed it up perfectly!
YES
Petty about the band being Elbow though as there not worthy of the legendary stature as a headliner in my opinion they have a few good tracks but to be 2 last headline act I’d expect someone worthy. Not easy listening elbow. 👂now this is a top tune but for 2.hours they don’t have enough quality. Just my
Opinion before I get all the abuse but normally it’s a huge act not so much of a band at that time who hadn’t even had a album in the top 3
It's a magical pyramid they used the S squares? Lol
let's never take one second of anything like this for granted ever again
Well said
Amen to that - amen.
Lovely comment ❤️
me and my John survived CoVid, sadly my brother Al didn't, live for each day, throw those curtains wide xx
5555.
I don't anyway ❤️🔥.
Comfortably one of the greatest songs of all time
😂
Greatest of all time for some for some maybe not, but this is a great track no doubt about that👍❤🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴
I love this man's voice. I recognised it when I was queuing for a bacon roll, hungover one morning after seeing the Rolling stones at Glastonbury 2013. Found myself stood next to Guy, both waiting for our greasy rolls, and me trying to be casual asking him about his new album etc........he was very graceful and warm. Cheers Guy Garvey.... hope you enjoyed ya bacon roll. ;)
Bullshit
lmao lololol i wish i was you in that monment
He looks like he's there to fix the sink and he sings and then my ovaries hurt.
The roll was ok, bloody silly money
We went past Glasto on the M5 a couple of weeks ago (twice, there and back), mysteriously this came on in the car at a very good volume level! Wife was confused! I just said "its the area"
That's got to be a massive high having thousands of people singing your song back at you 🔥
As high as you can get I'd say! I've had about 100, and for me to was the biggest thrill of my life, never mind those numbers!!
@@FergalNash are u joking??
this is a song that deserves millions singing back
I’m Chinese and a Britpop fan, first time heard this on 2012 Olympic Open Ceremony, I appreciate it so much. 12 years later this masterpiece still makes me emotional every time heard it.
Mate, I'm going past there on the M5 on Saturday. This will be turned up proper loud!
I got chills in the first 2 notes. This song is so amazing. And in Glastonbury no less. Here's to Covid 19 being over so we can all enjoy a live experience like this.
For sure. It's only when you see videos like this you realise what has been taken away from us.
Too right!
BTW my son has just come back from Download 👍🏻.
I was there for that ........ It was *amazing*.
I didnt get tickets for glasto 2020...... So next chance to go is realistically 2023........... aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhh !
It's an awful song
@@jammy2858couldn’t be any more wrong mate
This song kept me alive during the hardest journey .
Specifically, what is referred to and channelled by the song, what is inherent to it, filling it, emergent from it, and evoked by it...
keep going hun anytime you feel down you know to just come back here and have a listen :)
Anyone else find themselves getting all emotional watching this stuff in lockdown? I miss live music.
this song is what we need to hear right now
@@dhurjatinithyananda1620 Thank you. I am bored and lonely for sure but I am safe and grateful for that.
Beatrice, keep strong 💪🏻 … the togetherness will return !
Me, so much….happy and sad at the same time when I see these vids. Need to get back to Glasto!
@@donestelle8877 I agree music memories good and sad brill x
One of the all time great British songs.
No it ain’t
I got all teary eyed.
You're so right Jake.
For sure it's a classic, so uplifting.
Yes!
No dancing girls, no fancy light show, no fake "street cred". Just a great song, from a great band, in front of a fabulous crowd, at a unique festival, set in the most marvellously creative land on the planet. Magnificent!!!!
Couldn't have put it better myself 🏴
this band was the last band my hubby saw at the 02 arena, i can hear him singing the songs, miss him loads xx
This was our first dance song at our wedding! Could not have been more perfect. My dad who was around 85 at the time commented, "It's no Moon River!"
Brilliant ! just the sort of thing my old dad would say ..
Mine too! X
Edit: wedding song, not your dad lol
This was the last dance song at my wedding, when the lights came up and everyone was on the dance floor singing this at the top of their lungs! Brings me chills to this day!!
Song sung reference..Manchester United..both walk hand in hand .along with the stone roses 🌹
❤ we get married tomorrow and this is our first dance 😊
This is the perfect song for the days when winter starts to loosen its grip and the sun starts to come put to play.
Yeah that day once a year will see every English person right🏴
Went to a wedding and the bride walked down the aisle to this. It was perfect!
My wife and I walked out of church to this on our wedding day August 2019. Every couple has "their song", this is ours
@@stevemartin3996 Good luck to you, I've got Otis Redding "My Girl" Still here 54 years later.
Thanks Alison 😂
Proud to be British, what a great song . What an incredible festival
😂
This song by elbow just makes me feel happy to be alive
I had the absolute privilege of meeting Guy over 10 yrs ago. I ran a bar in Leeds and we had the band come to do a dj set. I’ve never been in a more bonkers situation where myself and guy in a lift taking him to the VIP room. An absolute gent and the nicest “celeb” I’ve ever met. Love him. Even if he is a manc! Haha
This is not a song. It's a spell & it has captivated me for years.
So true.
God's spell, if you'll forgive the kind of joke. It is the Holy Spirit that inspires such special music as this, and then transmits God's love and forgiveness and desire to raise us human beings higher; and ensures that we post here because we feel such a need to share further.
It's a song.
Brilliant. I regret that I found Elbow in 2023. I wish I had found his music from the beginning.
They are touring in 2024. Not near me, but maybe near you.
Live in Chicago. Never heard of Elbow.
Read that Michael Caine said this was his favorite song.
Listened, Blown away. Played it 4 times.
Will check them out.
If you let it, it is the Holy Spirit in the music that is in the wind you refer to. Just as Jesus described Him...
A timeless and absolute masterpiece. Deeply inspired and spiritual. A song of hope for the whole world.
Masterpiece? Lol
This song was on the radio when my son was born 12 years ago. Takes me right back every time I hear it and I have to fight back the tears.
Don't fight the tears encompass them in your son, what a memory to have.
Exactly what I was thinking ! Why hold them back? Let them flow!
Glad for you mate ,precious time
That first morning waking up with someone you have been mad about for days/weeks/months is totally amazing. When the first thing you see is them smiling at you, Such a wonderful moment. I said "what would you like for breakfast, I'll get you anything!" "Strawberry yoghurt" was the response. I dashed out to the local shop and we had strawberry yoghurt for breakfast. Still makes me smile, that perfect morning when it is just the two of you and nothing else matters. We spent Saturday and Sunday together and said our goodbyes on Sunday afternoon, texting all that night. Truly smitten, the best days. Bounced into work on Monday. "Good weekend?" Yep, good weekend.
Been there, done that, got the whole muniform. Married 10.5 years and still do it, just not yoghurt! I usually have to drive!
Heard this song for the first time when vacationing in Greece (from the US) a few years back. I had to shout to my bartender friend..."OMG What is this song?"
Hope he knew, he should have!
My son introduced me to Elbow. He died of cancer 18 months ago so this has me in tears
So sorry, can't imagine your pain, I hope the good memories balance the pain ❤️
sorry to hear this...he is always in your presence...just remember to say..good morning ,and good night to him,...he still exists ...just not pyshically ..😊,
Oh how very sad. My sincerest condolences from another grieved parent ❤❤
Sorry for your Loss. Big hugs 💔
Your Son had good taste in music 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤xx
I am sorry
I was so desperate to play this album to my dad but cancer beat me to it. Fuck cancer. This is one awesome tune and my sad was some awesome dad. Cheers Elbow
Sorry for your loss 😢 cancer sucks xx
Very sad I love it to for the same reason
One thing that the British still got greatness is music and their bands.
I love British bands.
Thank you Radio X for introducing me to this great band and others.
As you will see from the song that tells us what happens when we throw back the curtains, the greatness is (and is not) British greatness.
The United Kingdom (the country with 3 great crosses of 3 great saints on its flag) receives certain blessings from God, delivered by the beloved and ever-active Holy Spirit, giver of signs through Scripture, nature, culture (as here) and Rapture.
They have a mission for us, and that's more than OK.
Paradoxical, as the UK thinks of itself as distanced from God (even though it buried its Queen and crowned its King with the Holy Spirit in the very heart of EVERYTHING - the only country to still do that).
With the Holy Spirit, things make sense and have meaning - it's what the above song is all about.
There is no mindless, meaningless, mean chaos in the above performance, even though that is everywhere you look in the 2020s...
[and Glastonbury might not seem the natural location for order ... yet there we are - in that nexus of a place where the choice between good and evil has been writ large for centuries]
ONlLY ONE POSSIBLE EXPLANATION OF ALL THAT
Thats how I found it radio x was introduced to the station 4 years ago snd do listen to anything else now
Just class Manchester music ..down load the stone roses
From the opening bars this song is just iconic It's an anthem of our times Brilliant
I was in that crowd. Absolutely incredible. The sun was setting over the pyramid stage. Everyone singing. The crowd was that good we managed to get Guy to down a pint on stage haha
We had this song to leave on at my mums funeral. It means so bloody much to us 🧡🧡🧡
Bless you ! Your family too! What a great sendoff for your mum!
Yes, my sister and brother In law funeral both died in a fire in Dec 22, 11th heartbroken this song played going in to the church great send off they had!
@@catrinhanly7180 I'm looking for the light blue deep pool infront of the curved side of the church in that song
If a crowd sung a song back to me/my band that loudly I think I'd cry tbh
This is a beautiful memory 💕💔
Amazing how a song can make you cry randomly on a Saturday morning.
I adored them eyes. To better days 💕
I heard this for the first time EVER at Glastonbury yesterday .. it’s just BEAUTIFUL and it’s making me cry on a Monday morning at 8.51…. God the Brits make the BEST MUSIC !
Woke up many a morning feeling like that especially had a few beers the night before going on holiday and thinking it's looking like a beautiful day can't feel any better
i love ELBOW so much cos they're sing honest & Northern..Garvey im proud!
I'll never forget the performance at the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony!
Sunday June 6th 2021 9:36pm. That's the moment the video ended after my mind being blown by hearing this song for the first time. Holy crap what a tune.
Welcome to our world
I think there should be a concert to celebrate opening up after all the Covid restrictions and Elbow should crown it with this epic tune! Who’s with me!
Oh You Lucky Brits ! Elbow is one of the greatest band of the past 20 years and I would love to see them live.
Gives me chills up my spine because of the words
This song is incredible.... so simple but the meaning so profound...especially we are into spring in New England and seemingly coming out of the pandemic...little by little...hope is there 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Only one year ago I discoverd this beautiful song. I like the violins. The power he has! The people go wild,. I am hooked!
All wrapped up so much love for everyone. You can't put that in words. I dare not ask the creator.
Had this at our wedding just as covid restrictions were being lifted. Love won in the end ❤️
This is one of the songs that you remember forever and know word for word.. Fantastic doesn't even come close to how I feel about this song.
I used to go to the record store and pick up random cd's. I picked this one up. I loved it from start to finish. This song is such a huge anthem that should have been as big as anything Queen ever did. Great music and positive lyrics.
And I love the story of the band not really having a hit for like their first 20 years. If you don't score a huge hit on your first or second album it's usually over. I'm American and turned a couple people onto this album
And I keep coming back to this and the joy keeps on coming.
My husband and are were huge Floyd fans, I still am. At his funeral 4 years ago we had “Wish you were here” at the start of the service and “Shine on you crazy diamond” at the end. He would have loved it.
One of the best photos ive ever taken was at glasto in 2014 i think watching elbow sing this song. They had the sunset slot and i took a panoramic of this pyramid stage, one side of the photo is getting dusk, brightening up to see the golden sunset light coming over the hill down on the right hand side crowd with everyone singing this song. Perfect moment. Perfect band Perfect song. Perfect festival.
I love metal and classical music but this is a masterpiece
Me too.
Thus Spake Zarathustra
I have this as my ringtone on my phone brilliant brilliant 💕 son and singer ❤️ Shirley h Darlington ❤🎉
The band is pure soul and the music is a balm! I managed to see them this year after more than a decade of being a fan and I’m so happy I got to cross it off my bucketlist because they are everybit as amazing still!!
Still my fav song in 2020! You can’t stop me hearing this song. Already watched this a lot of times.
Cool, keep watching!
I've never been to Glastonbury but I've heard that Elbow are on the piramid stage! Wow how I'd love to be in that crowd! The forecast is looking like "A beautiful day" guess I'll just watch it live on TV! I wouldn't miss it for the world! What a brilliant band! Priceless 💕
My God, what would we do without tunes like this?
this is such a beatiful song..i love throughing my curtains wide..Just so Inspirational !!
So proud of my uncle guy he’s done our family so proud
Great, great song from a brilliant band. Rick, down under South Australia
Elbow hat mich in einer schweren Zeit unterstützt. Durch Zufall sah ich sie ... Einzigartig, was sie aussenden mit ihrer grandiosen Musik
This has to be the most communal of songs. Should be our national anthem so we all get to belt it out every now and then.
This song gives me the chills as it cheers me up on my bad days love love this song
This song does, and always will, remind me of my father. Not only the song, but Elbow in general. Their songs and just them.. my father always listens to them and I absolutely dread the day he passes and I hear an Elbow song because I know I will not be able to hold back the tears. It’s powerful, how a song can hold so much emotion
This music is a conduit straight from and straight to God's power and love, that is why! The Holy Spirit is a beautiful, playful, wonderful being - He knows us, has mercy for us again and again; and wants us to experience the joy inherent in God's love. There is nothing like it... It's happy and sad and deep and fine and ennobling and uplifting and gracious and kind and powerful all at once...
One word WONDERFUL especially during these hard times 😍
A truly memorable song, made for performing in front of a live audience
My favourite song nothing to beat it. Loved it from hearing for the first time had to ask grandson who it was by and play it over and over again.
What a brilliant song and atmosphere. watching it in the year of COVID makes one very sad at all the missed opportunities of great events where people can dance and rub shoulders and have a wonderful communal time without fear.
Yeah, I'm not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but the way this virus seems almost perfectly designed to isolate people and prevent communal activity, while killing off the elderly, seems very likely this was a manufactured virus that got released either intentionally or unintentionally.
I never get tired of hearing or watching this
I love this song
I listen to it every morning
We have a winner...master of the opening festivity on Tokyo 2021 !
Such a positive and uplifting experience and song. Fantastic!
I don't know what made me think of this song, but it gets me every time I listen to it!
Absolute masterpiece
What a great performance. Would loved to have been there.
Truly beautiful memories of a perfect weekend! This song just epitomises the whole vibe of what I want from Glastonbury or any festival for that matter
My daughter was to see Elbow in Belfast recently, but show was cancelled...😥..she introduced me to them, thank you Victoria.
I sang this at a Recovery walk in Manchester about 6 years ago in front of 6 Thousand people with a choir and it was amazing
Filled me upwith tears love this song so much beautiful. ❤🎶
The work of the Holy Spirit inspiring musicians to reach that little bit higher and deeper...
Meu Deus!! Como eu amo essa banda 😍 🇧🇷
Me pasa igual... Ojalá algún dia vengan por latinoamerica.
I'm proud to say there from my home town
Manchester
They get a lot of stick from snobs for being average when actually Elbow is just a consistently good band. They've never set the world alight, but to make music that is continuously good and sometimes (like this song) goes above and beyond expectations is so much harder than people think...
Guy Garvey is a legit sweetheart as well
His 6 music show is a dream
Steven Torrance Excuse me? How does using the word consistently make him a snob? I suggest you wind your neck in and stop being so rude. What a horrible, hateful individual you are. And on a song like this at that!
good point mate x
And you sound like a complete nob.
Who actually cares what snobs think 😳 fantastic band, enough said
A song to generate positive vibes . And it works 😊
Love this. Learning it for my choir - not as simple as some think, but loving it. 😊
It's a real choral song alright.
Play this at my funeral. Please.
If they don’t play it at mine ,I’m not coming......😉
Me too
God bless you, Guy Garvey.
Hi guys, gg, petite pops, potter, Craig, jump, mr soft days, always being the first to dance, poetry and music combined, so proud that you have kept your integrity in this cutthroat business. Love Susie pooh
I can listen to this everyday and it makes me feel great!
Makes me think of my annual camping excursion with the best people I’ve ever had the pleasure of being friends with.x
Had this song played during the blessing of the handfasting to my beautiful wife Jaqueline in 2011. It had become a favourite song of ours after seeing Elbow at Glasto. Sadly she passed away suddenly just 7 years later. Although it always makes me cry when I hear it I am also reminded of the most wonderful day of my life. Bittersweet just doesn't cover it.
It's funny the way that watching live music can take you to a place that you will never forget
This gives me tears and a big smile, every time…. 💋
Only God can do that - it's His inspiration of Elbow, through the Holy Spirit. They love us and they want us to "see". With this music we begin to do that...
I could live with Guy Garvey being God
Absolutely Brilliant, wonderful song and Singer ❤
Timeless music and great performers...
Support band for The Rolling Stones in Cardiff, I cried when they played!!!!!
Perfect! …..lyrics can be adapted to any memorable moment in your life and the arrangement is spot on 👌🏼

Absolutely right!- from a fellow Teessider
Bought the first album, wasn't sure but it grew. After that, well, I just love this band ❤
This was the music to our walk down the aisle, perfect, blissful beautiful day
I’m a singer myself and I’m not fussed on bands really but I do love this band , the man got an amazing voice and I love their music yep I got to say I’m a big big fan now
Indeed... Hard do explain, but his voice has a certain fullness to it, I love it - and he's great live.
