This some makes me and my Dad cry every time, my mum passed when I was 2 weeks old and me and Dad are best friends and he adores Elbow. ‘Throw those curtains wide’ relates to so many people going through struggle, clear those cob webs out! ‘1 day a year’ if only we could spend that with her again… beautiful
That is the kind of crowd participation that sends shivers down your spine and reminds you just what humanity has to offer. Love Elbow. Love this crowd. Love this song.
@@sidpheasant7585what’s the Holy Spirit got to do with this song? It’s music that’s of the world, this song does not represent god. The Holy Spirit has nothing to do with causing a crowd to participate.
@@Cookies2132 It is obvious that, while the world is often linked together with the Flesh and the D*v*l, and while 1 John 5:19 says straight that the whole world lieth in wickedness, signs for people from God are throughout The Bible and quite clearly there is interaction between the eternal and the divine and what we have here on Earth. Quite clearly those signs can involve Scripture, but also nature (as St Bede for example recognised), and indeed culture and ... in the end ... rapture. We believe that both hymns and religious paintings can inspire (the word actually refers to the Spirit) a better seeing and understanding of God, thereby also suggesting a blurring of the life-art boundary that characterises the Holy Spirit. It would be odd and illogical and unlikely to suggest there is a pure and clear boundary between the intentionally-divine music associated with church and music in general. And indeed a Holy Spirit determined to spread understanding of God, through the words and actions of Jesus, would HAVE to seek ways of reaching "non-religious" people. Jesus says ther Spirit is like the wind, blowing where He will, and that enigmatic behaviour must also denote work in "popular" circumstances and with ordinary people, and indeed with atheists/agnostics (Vaughan Williams and his church music springs straight to mind). The song from Elbow has a clear spiritual aspect, people like it or love it and are not sure why, and participation CAN INDEED suggest the action of the Holy Spirit, as it also does in certain church services. God is represented wherever there is love and truth (these are the very nature of the Holy Spirit too), wherever there is a clearer separation of good from evil, wherever people reach for higher things, wherever the sacrifice and love of Jesus is understood. But in many the first inkling is many steps down the line from full faith, so people have to be helped to grasp what they experiencing. I try to do that.
They played this at the Queen's Jubilee, June 2022. I fell in love with it and found this video. A great new discovery. I'm American. British band. How many more gems am I missing?
Who knows? So many things to discover. Only twigged to these punters myself recently. The frontman is quintessentially British I reckon. Life love and the Universe and a cup of tea. (I'm Irish, please do excuse my bamboozling attempt at english). Abso fecking lootly lovely
Because of how pure and beautiful it is. All the hate and anger in the world, it's SO reassuring to see thousands of people coming together through something as powerful as music. Look how completely and utterly happy the people here are!!
Couldn't agree more. Just imagine how beautiful it would of been to be caught up in the moment there with thousands of people euphoric from singing along. This vid will be an instant pick-me-up if I'm ever feeling down...
This was the very last song that my wonderful Son & I listened to before he slipped into his forever sleep on the 17th August 2023 just last year & im now left totally bereft.. A beautiful, beautiful song, full of memories from beginning to end.. 💔💔💔
@@Grannyjo449 Thank you, I hope as each day passes, you may find some comfort and joy in your painful circumstances. The version of this song that I initially heard was by Sarah Brightman. He performed as "warm-up" to Coldplay in NC in 2005 and blew the audience away. I always arrive early. I had my video camera...A "guard" near me asked me about it. I told him I had to get this. I urged him to pay attention to Guy. He was blown away. He said, this coming from a Southron, that he had the charisma of Elvis. High praise. He let me film what I could. I just had to put the camera down and be present after a few minutes. Genius, intelligence and compassion married with rare talent.
I was in a wooden coast restaurant on the most northern island of Holland: Schiermonnikoog. I heard this music played inside. I ask: Who is this, it is so beautiful... And now I found it... Such happiness...
Beautiful band. Only seen them live once, in Oslo, ages ago with their first album. Asleep in the back, Newborn. Top songs. Thinking mans Coldplay in my book.
This is the song that reminds my dad of my birth came out a few months before I was actually born and it’s been played every year since. I truly love elbow and there songs.
Such joy. Just imagine being able to write a song like this. And then just imagine being able to sing it in front of all these people. What a feeling that must be like. This is to me true Britishness. Nobody should be allowed into the country unless they can sing this.
they are considered one of the best band in UK for a while now...they won best live gig of 2015. They are already set in British music history since 2011 ;)
Humans with the Holy Spirit, to be exact. The greatest partnership in the universe. In it we can do anything. We must do - because now is the time to choose good over evil.

Love the Holy Spirit.
He knows 21st-century methods to spread the love and insight
That is what throwing the curtains wide actually means.

I can’t stop spinning this album front to back, so many top tunes, love Elbow.
There's one recorded live with the BBC orchestra. You should listen to that. Lonliness of a tower crane driver is on another level.
Great band. Love their albums
The official Glasto Anthem....absolutely brilliant!!!!!

Going to see elbow for the 3rd time in Scarborough this summer…I’m coming all the way from Canada. Can’t wait!!!

Loved every minute of the set they played. Absolute treat - and unexpected, so a brilliant surprise. Thank you, BBC!
Elbow have always done this song great justice.

A love letter to hope, and even joy, these days.
One the most positive song ever made.
The one that will always give big smiles.
This song is stronger than us.
Good honest soulful music and harmony! Awesome!
One of the highlights of the weekend
Guy Garvey a genius, just seen Elbow at Thetford Forest, awesome!!
This gives me a melancholy feeling about that special person I don't know yet.
I love the fact that he's in his natural accent, not "studio" perfect. Well done Guy.
