Looks like you discovered another exciting site. I agree with you as I don't like to detect along roads either. It is too noisy, too trashy and I don't like people hollering at me and looking at me but on the other hand that is where I have located many fantastic relics because most roads have been around for a long time and people have been traveling along them. I believe the ornate relic you found is indeed a candle holder that seems to have been attached to a candelabra that would have held several candles. The buckle you found is very common here in the states and dates usually from the 1700s into the early 1800s. Thanks so much for taking us along on your adventures.
it's just amazing this area! it seems as if every field there was part of a huge settlement. . .i agree with you about the roads! the finds rate is often good but you are not alone and undisturbed. . .thank you for your information about the buckle and for watching! i appreciate it and i'm happy that you like my videos :) best wishes, GL&HH! hans
Hi Hans - Great hunt once again. That was quite a pile of trash you had there but for 3 Roman coins and some nice relics, seems like a good trade off. Nicely done! All the best to you. GL&HH
hello joe :) thank you! i'm very happy about the result and yes it was a lot of work but in the end a fairly good trade :) thank you for watching and for your kind words! all the best to you, too! GL&HH! hans
hello Hans some digging gone on there my friend some nice finds congrats on the roman and good luck on your next hunt great video HH and best wishes,,,pat
Hello from Montana USA. I love your channel. I can’t imagine how many hours you must put in to find as many items as you do. Even though much may be trash I know every find is worth something. I always tell myself I’m doing something for the planet by putting trash where it needs to be. A dump so future diggers a thousand years from now can find all their goodies in one place. 😂. I believe the English word on the buckle you found might be slant. It looked a bit slanted to me anyway. Just starting metal detecting and not finding much but it’s a blast. I tend to pick up trash wherever I go now so it’s been a good hobby to pick up. Happy hunting.
hello tina, this field is amazingly trashy but one has to endure it as there are serious treasures to find on it. I can't wait to return there but unfortunately it is under crops most of the times. thank you for watching and for commenting! all the best and happy hunting, hans
Hans; Terrific hunt! The Roman coins keep coming and the relics were intriguing. I believe the candle holder was Acanthus leaves rather than Oak leaves. Your advice in the recon of the fields was valuable and obviously paid off for you. The trash and proximity to the highly trafficked road were down sides, but ones we all endure. Beautiful work on your videos, a pleasure to view- keep it going! Fred
hello fred :) thank you! yes they do i can't believe how many of them are around there. . .i agree about the leaves of the candle holder! it's just strange how these items made their way to the fields!? digging the trash was very time consuming and exhausting but as you said, it paid off :)thank you for watching and for your kind words fred! i appreciate your comment! best wishes, GL&HH! hans
I really like the toothbrush idea with the melted tip on the end. I made a bunch and wrapped Velcro around the middle, then put the other small piece on my metal detector housing, now it's always right there.
Neil Schostag hey neil, sorry for the late reply! for some reason i wasn't informed about your comment! it's a good help for giving finds a first quick clean :) i'm glad you like the idea! i like your idea too! i have a control box cover and i can slide my toothbrush in the cover so i have it always close at hand :) thank you for watching and commenting!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Hi Hans, beautiful and interesting finds! I never got more than 2 Roman coins in a field, so no hot spots found yet.. I'm hunting Roman grass tomorrow (a bit more work with the grassplugs) hoping on some good finds ;-) Best wishes and good hunting! Lieven
hello lieven :) thank you! i'm pretty sure that you will find your hot spot soon. . you keep finding roman coins which is a good sign. . maybe you are scratching the borders of your hot spot the whole time :) i keep my fingers crossed for you! good luck on your pasture site! best wishes, GL&HH! hans
hello my friend! thank you for your compliment and kind words! i appreciate it and it makes me happy to hear that! thank you for watching my vids! best wishes, hans
hans I am no detectorist - came by your site by chance. your intro very professional, really got me. die ronneburg und umgebung is the landscape of my childhood. your site is singular. I also ran across ca.relic/metaldetectingadventures (super lucky or ?) anyway, that's my landscape 50 yrs later. -H meier
+T Meier hello! It makes me happy to hear that you liked my video although you are not an detectorist! the ronneburg area is so beautiful and I can imagine that you miss it a bit. . . thank you for watching my video and for your kind comment! all the best, hans
Congratulations on your 50th MD video Hans (if I may call you so... I am Al)... well done once again with the Roman coins. How I envy you... in Canada we have nothing like that! I think the word for the shape of that buckle is 'trapezoidal'... sort of a bent rectangle... I'm thinking it may not have been made that way, but forced into that shape over time... but who knows? Another great trip along with you, and looking forward to the next 50 or so! Perhaps a gold coin is not far off? Fingers crossed! ;-)
hello al :) thank you my friend! of course you can call me hans!! it's unreal that it's the 50th vid already. . .the roman coins keep coming and something is telling me that there may be more of them :) "trapezoidal" that is the word i was looking for. . .haha. . thank you! thank you for watching, commeting and for your kind words! i don't know how i would react if i find a gold coin. . haha. . .maybe it's not fit for being shown :D best wishes, GL&HH! hans
hello mike :) thank you my friend! i hope i will be able to present you many more vids in the future! thank you for watching and supporting! best wishes, GL&HH! hans
Hi; Like the way you show finding items and how steady your cam is. Most other detectors move their cam all around so that it hard to see what they are doing. Keep up the works. Look forward to more from you.
+montanablake hello my friend, thank you for watching and for your kind words! I'm happy to hear that you like the way I make my videos! I always wanted to give the viewer the feeling to be with me on the field. . .I appreciate your nice comment :) all the best, hans
hello dave :) thank you! these roman coins are amazing and it's unreal to find that many. . .something is telling me that these coins weren't the last ones :) thank you for watching and commenting! best wishes,GL&HH! hans
Greg Kerr hello greg :) thank you! it's really amazing and i will never get used to it! it's fantastic to be the first one to hold these coins in my hands again after almost 2000 years! thank you for watching!!! all the best! hans
Marko Hynninen hello marko! lol. . these are the most interesting ones. . .unfortunately ;) yes it is. . i'm so grateful to be able to detect it! thank you for watching!!! all the best, hans
Agent Fungus hello! thank you for watching and commenting!! believe me it is mind boggling for me as well :) . . i don't take these finds for granted! i'm happy to hear you enjoy my vids :) thank you!! all the best, hans
Thank you for your awesome vids from across the pond. My late parents were from WWII Poland, so can appreciate the ancient history of Europe. Anything over 30 years old in the US is considered ancient, people and buildings included.
my pleasure, thank you for watching them! ah ok. . cool poland is 6 hours away from here by car :) lol. . so i would be ancient in the us?? i'm so happy to live in europe :D all the best to you! hans
So different than the US. I think I could reach Canada in 6 hours if I drove above the speed limit. Your videos are very well made easy to watch. Keep up the good work!
Hi Hans, looking at the colour of the soil there l would have to say you were south some where, l do some detecting from time to time in the Rendsburg area (lehmbek near the Kiel canal) lovely black soil and easy to dig, find the usual stuff like musket balls, seals, few coins. Here in the UK where l dig the soil is clay and so very hard going, especially in the summer when its all dried out. good vids enjoy them, happy digging, steve
Steve Treadders hello steve! i'm detecting the frankfurt area. . .it's middle germany but of course south of kiel :) here the soil is similar to yours in england. . i have to work very hard to dig my holes at times and in winter when it's moist i drag kilos of earth around with me. . .lol thank you for watching and subscribing!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
hello mike :) thank you! i was very busy, you can say that again :D it's a site close to the road and a foothpath! horrible!!! but i'm glad i had the patience to examine the place. . .it paied off!! thank you for watching and commenting :) best wishes, hans
Hallo Hans. I live in GAP and can't wait to start detecting this year. If you come to Bayern let me know, perhaps we can link up for a day! Great video thanks!
hello rui! the most important tip is to get a permission from the archaeological department before you start detecting. . otherwise it's illegal and can cause you a lot of trouble! good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions :) all the best, hans
Hi Hans , Rui here I have spoken with Bayerisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege and with my local landratsamt in Sonthofen for permission, and I have a lot of information to read about laws. My intention in the first place whas to go and see what I could find and then inform a Dr. Gall, he’s is the local representative arqueologist of any important finds. But everybody that I speak with tells me that im not aloud to remove anything from the ground because is considered a monument, is that the case also with coins and etc… I intent to buy a gps and catalogue any finds, with coins or with some peace of ancient artefact can I take home clean, photograph it and send the information the to the Dr. Gall or is this done in a total different manner.
i'm not very familiar with the metal detecting laws in bavaria but it think the people you've spoken to are right; you are not allowed to dig the items especially in woodland as you are not trained to dig them the way an archaeologist would dig them. . .you could destroy a lot of informations surrounding the find... i'm sure that you could get a permission for ploughed land as the ground there is disturbed...i'm sorry but i think you will have to read all the laws the archaeologists have given you in order to avoid mistakes. . .all the best, hans
Great hunt Hans. I have a roman site, have found 3 brooches over the years, but never found a roman coin! You have great detecting land there, and that field is just awesome for detecting on.. All the best, Rich.
hello rich :) thank you! this is strange. . normaly you would find coins easyer than brooches! but as you can see, nothing is set into stone when it comes to metal detecting :) i'm soo happy about the area i can detect there! it's just amazing and exciting :) thank you for watching and commenting! best wishes, GL&HH! hans
The item @5:14 may be a piece to a walking stick/cane? That was what I thought when I first saw it. Wonderful finds. Meine mutter wahr im Gelnhausen geborn. Sorry if my German is rusty. I haven't spoken in many years. I miss the old country. Deutsch was my first language before English because my father was away in the Vietnam War and my mother raised us.
NorthShoreJoe hello joe :) thank you for your comment! could very well be what you've said! i can imagine that too! thank you! funny! i grew up in a neighbor town of gelnhausen! the world is a village :) btw. your german is still very good! thank you for watching joe!! all the best, hans

Think you need a longer spade friend ! Or your back will be knackered in time like mine . Good vid ! The buckle is oblong and I think the other thing you found with an eye in it looked like part of a fob watch chain , good hunting !
anthony preston hello anthony :) lol. . you're so right! and i already bought a new one. . you can see it in my latest videos. . .thank you for telling me about the objects! i always appreciate helpful comments! thank you for watching!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Really Nice Finds but today you had to work hard at it from the looks of the rubbish, being next to a road will get you lots of that stuff. Love the effort you put into your Hunts & Video's Hans. Great Job......
hello my friend! you can say that again! it was hard work! i had to dig countless times! but it's ok as long you have a hand full of goodys at the end of the day :) thank you for watching and for your kind words! makes me happy you like them! best wishes, hans
Hi Hans, love your videos. I think your "rivet" could well be a collar stud, in this case a back stud. They were used to fasten a loose collar to the neckband of a shirt. Heavy duty, maybe for a working man or a soldier?
Hello from Finland! Nice stuff, that you found. I'm going to start serching, first buy detector and maybe search detecting foundation from here to get help(sorry about my English ).
Perttu hytönen hello perttu! thank you! i'm glad you like my finds :) good luck with your new hobby i hope you will enjoy it! thank you for watching and commenting!!! all the best, hans

Can You imagine that the last human hand to touch these roman coins were 1000 or 3000 years ago!! Does it not make one think and shiver with delight?? Cheers Sir, magnificent.

Great video! I too perform a "recon" on areas that are massive to determine the best area to start with. What's really neat is when you find "no" trash (very rare) but I have found spots like that which-produced good finds. I carry a small spray bottle with dish soap, vinegar, and a little bit of "Jet" ( a rinse aid for dishwashers), it helps with removing the gunk off finds. HHS
hello docdaugh :)
thank you! it took some overcoming to do it as i of course wanted to start detecting straight away. . .i'm so glad i did it because the result is another hot spot :) good idea with your spray! sounds like an effective mix!
thank you for watching and commenting!

Hi Hans!
I think, that the buckle you found is a 17- or 1800 shoe-buckle.... (at 7.30min)
Atleast thats what it looks like to me, this one looks like it came of a right shoe.
It has no function except decorative.
Relaxing videos you make, love watching them!
Keep it up!
Wow Great coin finds Hans. Congratulations . That is a hot spot for sure . Best wishes and continued luck.

Happy hunting.
hello tina,
this field is amazingly trashy but one has to endure it as there are serious treasures to find on it. I can't wait to return there but unfortunately it is under crops most of the times. thank you for watching and for commenting! all the best and happy hunting,
hans
Hans;
Terrific hunt! Fred
hello fred :)
thank you! yes they do i can't believe how many of them are around there. . .i agree about the leaves of the candle holder! it's just strange how these items made their way to the fields!? digging the trash was very time consuming and exhausting but as you said, it paid off :)thank you for watching and for your kind words fred! i appreciate your comment! best wishes, GL&HH! hans
I really like the toothbrush idea with the melted tip on the end. I made a bunch and wrapped Velcro around the middle, then put the other small piece on my metal detector housing, now it's always right there.
Neil Schostag hey neil,
sorry for the late reply! for some reason i wasn't informed about your comment!
it's a good help for giving finds a first quick clean :) i'm glad you like the idea! i like your idea too! i have a control box cover and i can slide my toothbrush in the cover so i have it always close at hand :)
thank you for watching and commenting!!!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
Good on you Hans, for hauling out the trash you find.👍 From Fairbanks, Alaska USA Taikuu.
Enjoyed your video. Thanks.
I'm happy to hear that :) thank you for watching!
Hi Hans, beautiful and interesting finds!
I never got more than 2 Roman coins in a field, so no hot spots found yet..
I'm hunting Roman grass tomorrow (a bit more work with the grassplugs) hoping on some good finds ;-)
Best wishes and good hunting!
Lieven
hello lieven :)
thank you! i'm pretty sure that you will find your hot spot soon. . you keep finding roman coins which is a good sign. . maybe you are scratching the borders of your hot spot the whole time :)
i keep my fingers crossed for you! good luck on your pasture site!
best wishes, GL&HH! hans
enjoyed the video well done on the finds

I am no detectorist - came by your site by chance.
your intro very professional, really got me.
die ronneburg und umgebung is the landscape of my childhood.
your site is singular. I also ran across ca.relic/metaldetectingadventures (super lucky or ?)
anyway, that's my landscape 50 yrs later.
-H meier
+T Meier hello!
It makes me happy to hear that you liked my video although you are not an detectorist! the ronneburg area is so beautiful and I can imagine that you miss it a bit. . .
thank you for watching my video and for your kind comment!
all the best,
hans
Good to see you clean up the garbage, you do a great job.keep it up!
+Colin Friesen it's a sisyphean challenge I tell you ..haha..thank you for appreciating what i do and for watching my videos!
all the best,
hans
Congratulations on your 50th MD video Hans (if I may call you so... I am Al)... well done once again with the Roman coins. How I envy you... in Canada we have nothing like that! I think the word for the shape of that buckle is 'trapezoidal'... sort of a bent rectangle... I'm thinking it may not have been made that way, but forced into that shape over time... but who knows? Another great trip along with you, and looking forward to the next 50 or so! Perhaps a gold coin is not far off? Fingers crossed! ;-)
hello al :)
thank you my friend! of course you can call me hans!! it's unreal that it's the 50th vid already. . .the roman coins keep coming and something is telling me that there may be more of them :) "trapezoidal" that is the word i was looking for. . .haha. . thank you! thank you for watching, commeting and for your kind words! i don't know how i would react if i find a gold coin. . haha. . .maybe it's not fit for being shown :D
best wishes, GL&HH! hans
Very nice Hans, kudos on 50 awesome videos! - Mike
hello mike :)
thank you my friend! i hope i will be able to present you many more vids in the future! thank you for watching and supporting! best wishes, GL&HH! hans
Hi; Like the way you show finding items and how steady your cam is. Most other detectors move their cam all around so that it hard to see what they are doing. Keep up the works. Look forward to more from you.
+montanablake hello my friend,
thank you for watching and for your kind words! I'm happy to hear that you like the way I make my videos! I always wanted to give the viewer the feeling to be with me on the field. . .I appreciate your nice comment :)
all the best,
hans
I enjoy your videos . Big Mex wishes you luck and success with your detecting experience . Hasta luego

13:18 for a moment I thought you found a self-portrait^^ - admit it: you are a time-traveller... (of sorts anyway)
You rock Hans! Good findings!
thank you my friend :)
Good video! Amazing to find coins almost 2,000 yrs old!
Greg Kerr hello greg :)

Wow. Finding Roman coins 1700 years old!!! I'm from the US, so something like this is mind boggling. Enjoy your videos. Sehr gut!
Agent Fungus hello!
thank you for watching and commenting!!
believe me it is mind boggling for me as well :) . . i don't take these finds for granted!
i'm happy to hear you enjoy my vids :) thank you!!
all the best,
hans
Thank you for your awesome vids from across the pond.
My late parents were from WWII Poland, so can appreciate the ancient history of Europe. Anything over 30 years old in the US is considered ancient, people and buildings included.
my pleasure, thank you for watching them!
ah ok. . cool poland is 6 hours away from here by car :)
lol. . so i would be ancient in the us?? i'm so happy to live in europe :D
all the best to you!
hans
So different than the US. I think I could reach Canada in 6 hours if I drove above the speed limit.
Your videos are very well made easy to watch. Keep up the good work!
please don't do it . . lol
thank you for your kind words! it makes me happy to hear that :)
The gold guilted piece looks to be a horse hair plume holder, fits to the harness for decoration, nice finds keep up the good vids.
+Tony Burndred hello tony!
interesting! i will check this out. . thank you for telling me and for watching my video!
all the best,
hans
Hi Hans, looking at the colour of the soil there l would have to say you were south some where, l do some detecting from time to time in the Rendsburg area (lehmbek near the Kiel canal) lovely black soil and easy to dig, find the usual stuff like musket balls, seals, few coins.
Here in the UK where l dig the soil is clay and so very hard going, especially in the summer when its all dried out. good vids enjoy them, happy digging, steve
Steve Treadders hello steve!
i'm detecting the frankfurt area. . .it's middle germany but of course south of kiel :) here the soil is similar to yours in england. . i have to work very hard to dig my holes at times and in winter when it's moist i drag kilos of earth around with me. . .lol
thank you for watching and subscribing!!!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
I like your findings. Hope you find alot next year - happy new year!
Landsfader thank you, i'm happy to hear that :)

Awesome hunt, and looks like you were very busy by the total amount of targets you'd dug.
hello mike :)
thank you!
i was very busy, you can say that again :D it's a site close to the road and a foothpath! horrible!!! but i'm glad i had the patience to examine the place. . .it paied off!!
thank you for watching and commenting :)

Germany looks beautiful. I'd love to visit sometime. Cheers from Texas.
Hallo Hans. I live in GAP and can't wait to start detecting this year. If you come to Bayern let me know, perhaps we can link up for a day! Great video thanks!

TerraGermania hi, i will get in the next few days my first metal detector, i live in Sonthofen Bavaria, can you please give a few tips, many thx.
hello rui!
the most important tip is to get a permission from the archaeological department before you start detecting. . otherwise it's illegal and can cause you a lot of trouble!
good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions :)
all the best,
hans
Gall or is this done in a total different manner.
i'm not very familiar with the metal detecting laws in bavaria but it think the people you've spoken to are right; you are not allowed to dig the items especially in woodland as you are not trained to dig them the way an archaeologist would dig them. . .you could destroy a lot of informations surrounding the find... i'm sure that you could get a permission for ploughed land as the ground there is disturbed...i'm sorry but i think you will have to read all the laws the archaeologists have given you in order to avoid mistakes. . .all the best,
hans
As a new follower in the USA I'm enjoying the earlier videos as I watch in reverse order; the commentary is a little more spontaneous.
Great hunt Hans. I have a roman site, have found 3 brooches over the years, but never found a roman coin! You have great detecting land there, and that field is just awesome for detecting on.. All the best, Rich.
hello rich :)
thank you! this is strange. . normaly you would find coins easyer than brooches! but as you can see, nothing is set into stone when it comes to metal detecting :)
i'm soo happy about the area i can detect there! it's just amazing and exciting :) thank you for watching and commenting!
best wishes, GL&HH! hans
That's cool to find so many Roman coins.
NorthShoreJoe hello joe :)
thank you for your comment! could very well be what you've said! i can imagine that too! thank you!
funny! i grew up in a neighbor town of gelnhausen! the world is a village :) btw. your german is still very good!

Think you need a longer spade friend ! Or your back will be knackered in time like mine . Good vid ! The buckle is oblong and I think the other thing you found with an eye in it looked like part of a fob watch chain , good hunting !
anthony preston hello anthony :)

Very nice finds. If I ever find a Roman coin I will let you celebrate with me.
Hi Hans, love your videos. I think your "rivet" could well be a collar stud, in this case a back stud. They were used to fasten a loose collar to the neckband of a shirt. Heavy duty, maybe for a working man or a soldier?
hello roger,
thank you, I'm happy to hear that :) thank you also fro sharing your thoughts about the"rivet" . . .very interesting!
Hello from Finland!
Nice stuff, that you found. I'm going to start serching, first buy detector and maybe search detecting foundation from here to get help(sorry about my English ).

Can You imagine that the last human hand to touch these roman coins were 1000 or 3000 years ago!! Does it not make one think and shiver with delight?? Cheers Sir, magnificent.
it's an amazing feeling of awe!
Please describe "not very old" in your opinion. In Canada anything older than 1899 is exciting and old!! Great video.
Old in Lebanon is whatever before Roman times lol.
amazing hunt nice objects GL&HH

Your videos are very interesting, thumbs up. But next time, try to find a tank, or halftrack or something big.
J Dahllquist hello!
thank you for your kind comment!! i'm glad you like my videos!
haha. . ok, i'll do my level best ;)
thank you for watching!!!
all the best,
hans
Hons I think your right a candel holder.
I am glad this is 6 years old video, and you no longer use toothbrush and sand to scrape the patina of Roman coins. :)
5:18 My wild guess is the top of a decorative military helmet, like a honor guard or the like
that's a very good guess! It's hard to define these classicistic relics. I'm still waiting to find a reference piece. thank you for sharing your thoughts :)
