  • Here is a video of me digging a coin spill from the river with my Garrett AT Pro. In this video, I have recovered 178 silver coins dating from 1837 and before from this site. Sorry about all of the "check it out"s in the video, but I was just a tad excited. Be sure to check out the end of the video if you get too bored to make it all the way through. UPDATE See my video "Aquachigger's Cache..." for up close photos of every coin.

Rivers people travelled on raft to start new life and water high even tiny bend one would get moving to fast and run into the corner and lose everything.

The little they "use",sure would not waste trade items on them when can get themselves or in trading with other tribes who did not even value it when was within they're range.

Apparently in 1837 there was a banking system crisis. Many banks went under. The following from Wikipedia:
"The Panic of 1837 was a financial crisis in the United States that touched off a major recession that lasted until the mid-1840s. Profits, prices and wages went down while unemployment went up. Pessimism abounded during the time. The panic had both domestic and foreign origins. Speculative lending practices in western states, a sharp decline in cotton prices, a collapsing land bubble, international specie flows, and restrictive lending policies in Great Britain were all to blame. On May 10, 1837, banks in New York City suspended specie payments, meaning that they would no longer redeem commercial paper in specie at full face value. Despite a brief recovery in 1838, the recession persisted for approximately seven years. Banks collapsed, businesses failed, prices declined, and thousands of workers lost their jobs."
I suspect that what you found was either the private stash of an individual attempting to protect his money from going down with the local bank or a banker attempting to save some of a bank's specie (coin) from its depositors. Something must have happened to the person stowing the money otherwise he would have come back to retrieve it. Perhaps he was hung by his unhappy depositors. And it could have been the stash of a thief. All of this is speculation of course. Very interesting stuff.

I don't normally comment on youtube videos, but had to for this one. Back in 2016 I was working night shift and one night on a day off, I was going down the rabbit hole of youtube videos and came across this one. Before this, I knew nothing about detecting. This video is what got me to buying a Garrett Ace 250 ( I swing the Equinox 800 now) and gave me the opportunity to search for treasure all over the U.S. and other countries. I just wanted to say thanks for the videos and showing how exciting this hobby can be!

Man oh man, I got so excited for you when you started bringing them up. I am a new metal detector fanatic, and am in the oldest place in North America, and I am amazed at some of my finds right on the beach in front of my house lol. I have found a bunch of Newfoundland silver coins, cameos, silverware, but the biggest surprise was a cannon that I cant budge which is crazy. Someone must have hid or lost those. They are beautiful, keep going so us newbies can keep on getting those tips. Man I just want to get out there right and start looking but as you know frozen ground is a bugger to dig up lol.
