Nice to see such a well balanced set of mods. The list of changes is however ridiculously long, and makes me very curious how much it cost, and if one couldn’t just buy a used 911 to get the same performance…
I once saw an old Dodge Neon with a sticker that said, "not fast, but loud." That's what i think with all these stupid burble tunes, but especially for an under-the-radar car like the R. And the fact that it is muted inside just adds to the silliness. Believe me, NO ONE outside your car wants to hear that. Otherwise this is an impressive tune and, of course, a great video.
I had a manual mk6 gti and loved it. Sold it and got a Jeep after my divorce and while I love my Jeep, I miss my gti. But these cars should come manual. I don’t care how good the dsg is, they should all be 6speed from factory.
i like all generations of golf........their body design are all so simple.......just install nice wheels and you have a beautiful car......i wish they are as reliable and inexpensive to maintain as toyota or honda
"dual clutches were not everywhere" - Umm they kinda were. Literally all VAG group cars had them in the late 2000's, even small city cars with tiny 100hp diesel engines. Even the Golf 5 generation already had them with all engines available.
Sorry to be that dude in the comments but slight correction…the first R32 (2004 Mark IV chassis) was only offered in a 6m trans. The DSG transmission was introduced as an option in the MKV chassis GTI and was the only trans option in the 2008 MKV R32 (that came to the states). Forever missing the VR6 days, there’s no correct way to craft a fart noise imo. Super impressed with his set up tho thx for the vid
Looks super well done. I'm actually car shopping right now and considering a low miles 2018/19 R with the 6MT. Looking for late model because that's when VW added Digital Cockpit. Very clean, stock examples are proving difficult to find. The new GR Corolla is still my first choice though. Just waiting to see if I'll be able to snag one at or very close to MSRP.
Great Video, first of all the Type R is a Porta Potty on 4 Wheels. The Focus RS is an awesome setup and the Golf R with some good thought and good bolt on’s is just as good as the Ford. I saw my old service managers Golf at my VW dealer that was really pushing what this one is doing in the video. That was Pre Irma here in Florida. He left after the Hurricane hit to sell windows in the Keys. Awesome Videos Thank You 🙏.
The owner of the car should look at the Tyrol subframe deadest kit. Made a world of a difference on my golf r since the subframe moves side to side because of the huge void Volkswagen left around the Bolt that hold the subframe to the car
That's not how the haldex tune works. You need a spring upgrade for the relief valve to stop the haldex from bleeding off pressure IOT hold more power.

Pretty good return on investment for the power gains. Great daily driver, great snowboard tripper, great all around driving feel for the price. Highly recommend for someone that is looking for a drivers car that won't break the bank (getting one used at least).
This is correct, I might have misspoke when Zack and I were chatting but it is the base Macan front caliper, basically an STI brembo that bolts right up. Should be able to get a pair for about $600 new.
Very well done build. I drive a 2016 GTI with an OTS stage 1 EQT tune, I'd love to add more power but the FWD platform is pretty much as it's grip limits with just the tune 😢 makes the thought of upgrading to a MK7 R very tempting...
Have you ever had any knocking issues with the front Bilstein PSS10 coilovers at only slow speeds going over bumps? I currently have the Bilstein B16 coilovers damptronic on my 2017 stage 3 Golf R. I have had a knocking noise at slow speeds and bumps on the front. I am using ECS HD front strut mounts. Rs3 swapped golf is a dream come true
Rip 🪦 to the R400 😭
I'd rather have a HPA turbo'ed VR6.
many RUclipsrs need to copy how you do the camera! I wanna see the road
Man I love golf Rs so much
I had a manual mk6 gti and loved it. Sold it and got a Jeep after my divorce and while I love my Jeep, I miss my gti. But these cars should come manual. I don’t care how good the dsg is, they should all be 6speed from factory.
I like that this is properly staggered!
Very nicely done Golf R. Looks and sounds great! Sounds like a big step up from the stock IS38 turbo.
i like all generations of golf........their body design are all so simple.......just install nice wheels and you have a beautiful car......i wish they are as reliable and inexpensive to maintain as toyota or honda
"dual clutches were not everywhere" - Umm they kinda were. Literally all VAG group cars had them in the late 2000's, even small city cars with tiny 100hp diesel engines. Even the Golf 5 generation already had them with all engines available.
He meant before VAG made dual clutches popular, now other car brand use dual clutches and he’s saying VAG made it popular
call it the EA triple 8 engine
Sorry to be that dude in the comments but slight correction…the first R32 (2004 Mark IV chassis) was only offered in a 6m trans. The DSG transmission was introduced as an option in the MKV chassis GTI and was the only trans option in the 2008 MKV R32 (that came to the states). Forever missing the VR6 days, there’s no correct way to craft a fart noise imo. Super impressed with his set up tho thx for the vid
Sorry to be that dude too but actually the MK4 R32 was the first production car with a DCT. In Europe they got the option of DSG and MT.
Man I want a mk7 R. Can used car prices please go down!
Love my mk7 GTI (fbo stage 2)
Dsg is the best to go when it comes to VW and little tune and voilà!
4k60! fantastic! looks crisp on my TV! Great review as always
Looks super well done. I'm actually car shopping right now and considering a low miles 2018/19 R with the 6MT. Looking for late model because that's when VW added Digital Cockpit. Very clean, stock examples are proving difficult to find.
The new GR Corolla is still my first choice though. Just waiting to see if I'll be able to snag one at or very close to MSRP.
you should out Innovative Motorsports, they've been doing RS3 Swaps into Golf R's. they're setups are fully OEM
the constant pops would be fun for a minute tops
Great Video, first of all the Type R is a Porta Potty on 4 Wheels. The Focus RS is an awesome setup and the Golf R with some good thought and good bolt on’s is just as good as the Ford. I saw my old service managers Golf at my VW dealer that was really pushing what this one is doing in the video. That was Pre Irma here in Florida. He left after the Hurricane hit to sell windows in the Keys. Awesome Videos Thank You 🙏.
would be nice if the back of corolla hatch is not too slanted so there would be more space at the back. like this golf
I have one question bro not car related but what timepiece is it your wearing? The watch game on tst is 🔥
Enjoyed the Mr. Regular style intro
Cool CaR!
The owner of the car should look at the Tyrol subframe deadest kit. Made a world of a difference on my golf r since the subframe moves side to side because of the huge void Volkswagen left around the Bolt that hold the subframe to the car
IMO, if it was an estate - yes, a 500HP Golf R IS the "everything" car. This one is aaaaalmost there.
We don’t get any vw wagons in North America anymore
I have the R wagon in stock form and it’s brilliant.
I have an IS20 AWD Sportwagen.
Very close to factory R numbers.
It's awesome. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't envy his brakes and extra power.
That's not how the haldex tune works. You need a spring upgrade for the relief valve to stop the haldex from bleeding off pressure IOT hold more power.
My Friend has a Gen 7 R w/ the Orange Spektrum Paint. Heavily modded, it sounds like a very angry V8 in part due to the Titanium Exhaust!
Love the spektrum colors well worth the $
They don't sound like v8s no matter how much you smoke
@@RCXDerp I would have to agree and I own one
@@RCXDerp LOL. Wish I had a sound clip for you. It sounds nothing like my old Stage 2.5 MK5 GTI, that sounded like a mildly pissed off i4 by comparison...
@@ilimit Titanium exhaust makes the diff...
I have a 2015 MK7 Golf R DSG w/ a Unitronic Stage 2 tune. Roughly 400 bhp and is very reliable, even at 90k miles. All in all, i'm only in it about $2,000 for an additional 100 hp over stock. Pretty good return on investment for the power gains. Great daily driver, great snowboard tripper, great all around driving feel for the price. Highly recommend for someone that is looking for a drivers car that won't break the bank (getting one used at least).
Shoutout to that Regular Car Reviews impersonation at 17:52 lol
My dads uses the FIXD a lot, works well
FWIW those brakes are base Macan/B8 Q5 front brakes. All Macans have single piston rear calipers with an integrated parking brake.
This is correct, I might have misspoke when Zack and I were chatting but it is the base Macan front caliper, basically an STI brembo that bolts right up. Should be able to get a pair for about $600 new.
LOVE the Golf R!😎
If only it was a Variant 👌
Very well done build. I drive a 2016 GTI with an OTS stage 1 EQT tune, I'd love to add more power but the FWD platform is pretty much as it's grip limits with just the tune 😢 makes the thought of upgrading to a MK7 R very tempting...
4:21 how about EA Triple eight?
Hahahaha that license plate is the shit
Great video sir. 👍
Matt said ODB2 port.
Bilstein recommended putting rubber spring isolators from 034 motorsport on the front springs to get rid of the noise. Thanks for your help.
MK7R ftw
Awesome car. When is the GR Corolla video? Press embargo is lifted.
I had a mk7.5R. Great around town but impossible to make into a good track car....no lsd and haldex. The Sti bros were always trying to race me.
I literally thought someone added fake fart sounds when it first took off haha
The brakes are front brakes off a Base Macan / Q5 just FYI. Otherwise, how would it bolt to the knuckle?
We LOVE this
At first glance I thought it was gonna be the 5cyl swapped R making rounds, but a sick build sheet nonetheless!
I love the look of this one much more than the new ones. If they made an electric version of this bad boy, dual motors.... man.
Can’t wait to tune my MK8 R
This car would easily make another 50-70whp with MPI and more ethanol
Tell that to my bank account!
@@flipflop97 😂😂😂😂
In the UK our ones come with MPI until about the 2019 models were they switched back to single direct injection.
@@jack4thewin698 aware but you guys don't really have e85 so your not really taking advantage of the fueling volume
@@jack4thewin698 The UK/ROW MPI setup is super limited by injector size, it's really there for valve cleaning and not power. Cost cuts kept that out of the NA market sadly, but adding MPI with bigger injectors is the way to 500+whp.
Currently I have a mk6 gti, can't wait to swap it for a mk7 R
I made the same jump in 2017, you won't regret it
@@carsaregood911 thanks for the support mate
