    Hi there, great vid. Basically, engine oil is a very important factor. What oil is recommended for minimum wear of the internals?

  • @BMWguy206
    @BMWguy206 Год назад

    I got a client with a 2011 BMW 1M with SES light and yellow half engine light. Fault code 2A82 VANOS Intake that mostly comes on during the first cold start. Replaced VANOS solenoids, oil check valves, oil filter cap, engine oil filter and fault still came back. According to manufacturing date, this engine has the updated teflon cam seals. We ended up removing both the intake and exhaust cam trays and found deep grooves on both of them. Engine has 118k miles but the VANOS fault first appeared at 111k miles. I was told that even with the upgraded teflon seals, the grooves will still occur on the cam trays.

    Hello I have a question , I know older n54s have different cam trays than newer n54s , mines an 09 , can I use the old cam trays from a part out that is a 2007 which is older model on my n54?

    • @335iN54Enthusiast
      @335iN54Enthusiast  2 месяца назад +1

      I do not recommend old cam trays always buy new because they will have wear in them that may cause issues down the road...unless you get lucky and there is little wear on the trays.

    when my car starts it’s fine but once it warms up after a few minutes it starts idling weird and making a light knocking sound. At first i had a vanos code so i replaced the solenoids and cleared the code. Never got new codes but it’s still doing the same thing. it has a lot of white smoke and it still has the weird idle and knock. I do have lifter tick now but the car sat for 2 months. i did have the 2a82 code and a 3100 boost code. but they haven’t came back

    This is exactly what I wanted to know about. What causes it. How will I know if it's happening or has happened. And how do I know this is the problem. Thank you! This video is very helpful. I have a 2008 335XI with extremely high mileage. 308,000 KM's or about 191,000 Miles. I bought the car last year (May 2021) for about $1500 USD or $1900 CAD. I am Canadian or Chinadian as it seems now days unfortunately, so that's why the conversions. After paying so little for the car and doing the repairs it needed (HPFP and a wheel bearing plus all the maintenance etc I've been wondering about anything I may have missed or it might need. I have no codes or problems but the paperwork of past mechanical work done on the car only went back about two yeas. So exactly what was done or not is only known that far. (Wow did I get a blessing on buying that car!
    I really got blessed on the price of that car and then to get any paperwork on it at all was even more amazing. Lol. So thank you I now know what to watch for or what might be at the bottom of a vanos light instead of a solenoid etc.

      @@335iN54Enthusiast ok thanks. But that is a hard one then. I suspect I need to replace this too as I did already all the other known mitigations. But I don’t have any reduced performance and the exhaust vanos only throws an error here and there but not daily. Also the engine check light does not come always and if it comes up it goes away after 2 days. But I did have to fill up some oil after 8000km (5000miles). So I assume it only gets worse over time?

    My 2010 128i with 85,000 miles is getting persistent "02A87 exhaust VANOS mechanics" codes, even after installing brand new VAICO solenoids. Is bearing ledge wear possible with 85,000 miles? Oil change intervals are 8500 miles with Castrol Edge 5w-40.

      @@335iN54Enthusiast Old comment but yeah when I made my comment I thought LCI N54s had the teflon seals but apparently it's only since 2012. I would still have the metal rings. I'm about to tear apart my top end here to do the cam intake bearing ledge and new seals on both sides. I have a intake vanos code but only at 150k KM so idk but I did all the other torubleshooting as per BMW, the only thing is I only replaced the intake vanos soldenoid since that was my problem side, I even swapped both solenoids and the code reamins on the intake so I assume it's cam bearinge ledge..
