  • Are you or someone you love expecting a new baby? Today I'm sharing with you my favourite DIY to make for new babies. I love giving these Crinkle Taggy Toys as baby shower gifts or gifts once a new baby is born. These Crinkle Blankets are so easy to make and you can use scrap fabrics, scrap ribbons and even create the crinkle noise with a special recycling tip - you'll have to watch to see!
    Baby's love the sensory stimulation that comes from these Baby Paper Tag Toys. They have high contrast colours, different textures and make a fun sound. Once a baby is around 8-12 weeks old they're starting to try to grasp and this is a perfect first toy to give them to practice that skill. You're going to love this one!
    Let's get making!

    Welcome to My Mum Makes! I’ve started this channel as a creative outlet to share my sewing projects online. I’ve loved to sew since my Mum taught me as a little girl and I find it relaxing, productive and fun. I love the chance to make things for my kids, myself and our home and I want you to feel motivated to give sewing a try and get creative. I think creativity is good for us especially as Mums. We can get so stuck in our everyday repetition, but spending some me-time creating something is a great way to unwind, prioritise our needs and use our brains in a different way to the everyday. Great idea to use the cereal packaging, I need to try that. I read somewhere that these toys can be a bit of a suffocation hazard (no problem when only used supervised), so what I do is I cut a bunch of holes into the plastic and do a "breathing test". Just a little tip to be extra safe.
    Have a great day! I enjoy your videos a lot.

    Made a nursing pillow and baby blanket for my cousin. Had a lot of large scrap material from each. Thank you, this was such a helpful video. I Loved it, was fun to make and it really tied the two pieces together. Hi Mum, hope this message finds you and your family well. I just have a question, the plastic or the cereal packages you use, do they dry completely when you wash them and not put in the dryer? cause i was thinking that if they do not dry completely they might grow mold inside. Have you tried putting them in the dryer?

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  3 года назад +1

      Hi!
      We don't have an electric dryer at home, we air dry everything in the sun and it dries fine. I wouldn't put it in a dryer if you do have one because it would melt the plastic

    I just NOW watched your video and I am going to give it a try since I am a beginner level. I have two quick questions to ask you if you don’t mind?
    1) For my clarification, did you say that these taffy toys are NOT machine washable?
    2) I was wondering if it is okay/safe to use a dryer sheet instead of cereal plastic bags?
    I have used dryer sheets (after it was taken out of the dryer) for homemade dog and cat toys.
    Thank you for your time and sharing❣️

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  3 года назад

      It's perfect for a beginner so I hope you enjoy making it.
      It is machine washable as long as it's on a cold wash, not hot water. You can't dry them in a dryer though, just air dry.
      I've never used dryer sheets before but I imagine they would be suitable. Not sure how they go in the wash though? If you do it you'll have to come back and let us know if it works

    What fabrics do you use most for these ~ Thank you!

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  3 года назад +1

      I use mink on one side and satin on the other side so they're two interesting textures for the babies to touch. Then there is also a later of polar fleece inside to make it extra soft.

  • @jeniferalvarez2914
    @jeniferalvarez2914 3 года назад +1

    What type of fabric is the polka dot fabric? And what did you mean by high contrast fabric on one side? Also, what else can be used in the middle than the polar fleece?

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  3 года назад +2

      The polka dot fabric is satin just to give it a different texture.
      High contrast means that there is a big contrast between the black and white colours on the satin side which is good for babies because they haven't developed the ability to see heaps of details yet.
      You don't have to use any fabric on the inside if you don't want. But you could always use flannelette or any other soft fabric if you do have to have a soft layer inside.
      Hope that helps!

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад

      Great question. I did find that different cereal packets had slightly different noise levels depending how thick they were. Corn flakes have been good ones for me but you might just want to keep listening to your cereal packets (lol) and see if you can find what is a noisy one for you. They aren't extremely loud though and the crinkle paper you can buy is definitely louder. But the cereal box packet is good enough that it's audible

    Oh, it's "Weet-Bix". No "A" in the middle? When I hear it mentioned in British shows I always thought it was Wheatabix.

    • @MyMumMakes

      It certainly would make more sense if it was spelt like wheat! I'd never thought about Weetbix not being intentionally known!!

      Weetabix is the UK version! Here in Aus we have Weet-Bix but they are basically the same thing from what I understand.

    Hi, what type of fabrics did you used?

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад

      Hi! You can use anything really but I used a satin on the back, Minky on the front and polar fleece in the middle

    What kind of fabric did you use

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  3 года назад

      I use Minky fabric on one side to give a fluffy texture for them to feel and then satin on the other side to be a contrasting texture. But you can really use anything or just scraps you have around

      Oh sorry the link isn't working. It looks like it's working from my end so that's odd.
      It's "crinkle material from tomni designs". Hopefully googling that will take you to the right spot.

      Buy a roll of florists cellophane. It doesn’t disintegrate when wet like gift cello.
