I would avoid using very narrow ribbon less than 1/2 inch. A narrow ribbon could be easily pulled loose when baby is chewing on it because it would be holding only a couple stitches. With rick rack I would lay the ends side by side instead of on top of each other for safety.

What is your experience with washing these while using the cerial bags as the crinkle material??
worked well for me! I used cold water and air dried.

Air dry after washing cause dryer will melt the plastic component in the cereal bag. Make sure you put a note with your gift on how to wash and dry the gift.

When did you take the pins out?
If you pin them high enough we're close enough to the edge, you could just trim that part off after you've stolen the pieces together
