So far, this is the best 3 question video in my opinion. This guy really showed his interest in the trade and came up with some interesting questions. My cousin who runs the family funeral home had 8 traditional funerals last week and only 2 cremations. He and I really think the pendulum is starting to swing the other way.

Lawrence, I love the family pictures behind you! I love ancestry so it’s beautiful to me! Very good thoughtful questions! Kari, amazing as always! I love to hear your experiences of such a vital needed service. My sister died from Covid April 9th. Watching your videos helped me so much! I had started watching the year before when her husband died. I wanted to know more since my husband is older than me and my father is 90. I wanted to be able to make wise choices. You helped me indirectly with my sister. My other sister kept asking, “how do you know all that!?” 😳 What a precious gift caring for the dead is. Not being able to be there with my sister at the hospital was just heartbreaking! Because of your videos I called the crematorium and asked if my other sister and I could be there with her and they were so gracious. My sister was shocked when I told her I wanted to be with our sister as she took her last journey but ended up being so glad we were there. It was truly precious. We told stories and laughed, of course cried. But it gave us a sense of closure. It’s because of you that I even thought of doing that and was comfortable to be with her. I am so grateful for that gift Kari. Thank you!!

Have you ever walked into a meeting with a family and the family knew who you were from your you tube channel ? If so, was it a good it bad thing ? II'm glad you mentioned that about direct cremation. I am fully supportive of looking for more green choices, having wakes at home, and not embalming. I chose a very traditional choice for my mother, and was happy with it. I gave her the funeral she wanted. However, at the risk of sounding cynical, not your channel, but Caitlin the Mortician, (who I do like), mentions a lot about price point of this and price point of that, and how to bury a body the absolute cheapest way.
This is having negative outcomes in my experience. I know in my own family, I had one cousin die, very wealthy; he made his grown son the executor of his will, etc. The son chose direct cremation. No viewing, no memorial service, no get together. He made a few calls, his father's body was picked up, and that was it. It was like he had never lived, and it was just like ordering a dumpster removal. All of his father;s employees and coworkers were upset as well.
Then my uncle died. He was a very religious man and a deacon in the church. He fell, (or was pushed) down the stairs. Was in ICU in a coma, his oldest son unplugged him, and right to cremation. He called my Uncle's siblings after it was done, so my poor 83 year old aunt was sobbing t only o me on the phone that they didn't allow him last rites, a wake, a funeral, not even a single prayer. No grave or stone. It wasn't a money issue; or rather it was in the sense that my uncle had left his family well provided for. He had a huge amount of life insurance. My cousin wanted as much of that for himself as possible. Even a memorial service would have really cost nothing, except perhaps $50 for the church. He wouldn't go for it. Within a week, he had thrown out all of my uncle's belongings. You might think they were on bad terms. No, they were not. It just seems that some of the younger people coming up through the ranks only think of price. Death is a minor blip in their schedule. They set aside just enough time and money to get their dead taken care of like leaving your dog's body at the vet to deal with, and life moves on.
I can understand after how society has changed that perhaps they don't have nostalgia, or don't mourn. But I wish they would consider the people that do. All of the hundreds of people who worked with my Uncle for 50 years, went to church with him all of his life, not to mention his family. Please when you talk about eceonomizing, green funerals, cheapening things, and direct cremations, realize you have an opportunity to influence the people I'm speaking about, whose only looking to hear "How cheaply can I get away with?" Please be a spokesperson for us hurting people, and ask them to consider not only what kind of funeral the deceased would have wanted, but the others that want to say goodbye and have closure. What kind of message does it send when a pillar of a town who has been giving communion for many years in a church, to just be burned with no prayers like a bag of garbage. Maybe you, having such experience in dealing with families, can say something to arrest this trend. Inexpensive I get; disrespect I do not.
I know it is a huge thing to ask, but perhaps you would consider doing a 5 minute video on this topic; combining a cheap price point with at least having a memorial service; or if they don't want to bother, allowing others to do it. I am not the only person this has happened to.

wmnoffaith1 ... Interesting. I saw my mother’s reactions to having a few family funerals in a short time. It was torture to watch. When she died, at 85, we had a small memorial service at her assisted living facility. My sister didn’t speak up to have a traditional funeral. It’s taken us 10 years to be able to talk about it. I’ve had to apologize and ask for forgiveness (multiple times), but we’re back on good terms. I should have asked for sister’s wishes, not considered cost, had a viewing, even though Mother didn’t want people to look at her, and thought of others who loved her, too. My sister knew lots of people wanted to pay respects and her grieve. I thought cremation wasn’t so hard on her grandchildren.
My point is, talk and talk about it before hand and don’t let things continue without speaking up. I’m sorry this is long, but feel it’s important for me to share my guilty story, so you may not have one yourself.
      Thank you Kari and Lawrence!

Hi Joe I'm Irish so I said I'd tell you about our traditions for our funerals. If our loved one passes ,they are taken to be embalmed, then the body is taken to a funeral home or a house for the wake. Personally our families like to keep our loved ones at home.family and friends come to the house too.we sit with our loved ones and yes there would be some ppl drinking .we sit and tell funny stories of deceased ,someone sits with the body at all times. Then in morning body taken to church for a mass then followed by the burial. After that we would go to a bar or house with friends and family and have some food. Then it follows again drinks funny stories and we sing .It might sound like a party atmosphere but it's not it's very respectful. We call it giving our loved one a good send off 🧚‍♀️🍀🙂

I am in Canada and I wonder how you feel about sending the deceased to a care center where all they do is embalm, dress, casket and send back to the funeral home.? My personal experience has been that the care is terrible, the embalming, cosmetics etc are poorly done and it seems just like a factory - in and out. Personally I got our home to stop this practice and now all care is done in house withour own directors or a trade embalmer if we are extremely busy. Your thoughts on this and having the body leave your care once the family has entrusted the arrangement to your firm.
