Kari, I have watched a good number of your videos. I have found them interesting and informative. I am very much a conservationist, so I lean towards "green" death care, but I am not a tree hugger, and I have found you to be very helpful and I appreciate the obvious care you have of the people you work with and the respect for the deceased. I am an organist and choir director so perhaps shared ministry is one of the reasons I feel a connection to you. Thanks for being a good teacher and/or mentor to so many.

Omg the drain thing, I thought I was the only one!! I haaate them. I became a hospice volunteer after my grandma passed away to be able to be there for the dying when they have nobody as I was the only one with my grandma when she passed. People should have someone there that wants to be when it's time to pass on.

Kari, here's my short take on you. You are very interesting to watch and listen to. Your attractive, and you have that smoothing voice. I'm very interested in the funeral business, but at 69 years young, and married with no children of my own, probably a little late. Money is a consideration. I've been involved with photography, since the early 70's. I've done retail, wholesale and professional photography. I've shot for a professional sports team, as their team photographer. I've also shot for another professional sports team, as a stringer. I've been up in hot air balloons, 3 times. I took flying lessons, and was ready to take my tests for a pilots license, but ran out of money. Single engine fixed wing and gear aircraft. Piper aircraft. I've been a photographer, in the pits and the track, for auto racing. I've done much more. Hope this helps. Thank you, for what you do. I forgot to add, that I taught color and black and white, film developing and printing. Won awards for my photos and printing.
This was fun, Kari! One thing unique about me is my memory is great. I remember names and especially dates. It’s almost embarrassing because I may remember an old friends’ birthday and they’re like, “I haven’t seen you in years”! Ya, don’t be flattered.... I remember everybody’s! Lol
Our granddaughter was six months away from being an OBGYN. She decided she wanted to be a forensic scientist. SO she is in her last year of law school. She wants to find out why people died by working COLD cases for police departments. Needless to say I was disappointed in her choice to want to work with the dead and not the living---however it is her choice. She called her grandfather and I to tell us of her change while in her last few weeks of schooling. We are very close to her---we have helped her along with her parents to make sure she has no bills for school. Medical school has been expensive---lol Law school not so much---LOL She will graduate in a few months and has already been offered a job with a coroner's office upon graduation. I LOVE following along with your channel. You are a wonderful person. Bree loves to skydive, she likes a lot of things you do---!!!! When she graduates she will be going to Italy for a few weeks. Our friends own a villa there so she will be staying there for awhile, it is on the beach. Thank you for sharing your personal life with us.
I am currently at Guide Dogs For The Blind training with my fifth dog. I am from Texas, and I hate rain. I hit avoided coming to Oregon because to a Texan when you say rain, it means monsoon, Oregon rain is actually pleasant.
Kari, I have a fear of crowds...I don't attend concerts, sporting events and gatherings of large amounts of people, because I suffer from panic attacks! It is referred to as agoraphobia!
I do not want other people grocery shopping for me either I'm not good at remembering names but I remember faces. I REALLY HATE TRYING ON CLOTHES EITHER ESPECIALLY IN THE winter to much work.

I’ve been a fan for a while now. A weird thing about me is if a see a funeral home while traveling I get excited like a child seeing carnival 🤗🎠 rides. My husband thinks I’m weird.
Hi Kari, we have a lot in common. I’m very organized, also will never try cloths on at any store ever! I did Parasailing 3 times at about 600 feet in height. No where nearly as high as you went; but at one time I did want to sky dive! I always wanted children but I have no human babies just my one fur baby Yorkie Terrier (Gia) who is about 6lbs. I have a huge fear of dying a really painful death. I’m vegetarian, been a vegetarian since I’m around 8 years old when it wasn’t popular. I’ve been divorced too. It’s not easy at all but you learn from your mistakes right? 😊 I love love detective shows & podcast, I love forensics, I love anything having to do with after life and dying. Call me weird... I’m unemployed now for about 2 1/2 years but that’s another story... it’s a long winded reason why...I’m ashamed to say but I’m kinda addicted to Bravo. I love the History channel and love watching Travel Channel “Dead Files” anything having to do with Hauntings or Ghosts, Angels, etc. I loved learning more about you, I find you to be the most sweetest sincere person and I admire your choice in career. (wished I could do it too). PS I would love to work in the funeral business myself but I’m pretty sure in NJ you need a duel license and I’m doubtful I’d get through the embalmer part of this very important job. I was going to recommend the possibility of Parasailing if Skydiving may have freaked you out. In NJ though, where I've flown three times, this means your 'chute tethered and controlled from a speedboat ON the Ocean about 500' down. THEN I heard how the ocean freaks you, so ......no good for you to try!!

Hi kari, I’m near Edinburgh Scotland. I am scared of spiders. I hate trying cloths on in shops too. I love to order online shopping. Due to my condition Turner syndrome, I have a obsession with time, if someone says they will come at 2pm and they don’t come till 2:30pm I freak out and worry until they arrive, I am early for everything. I love cats I have 3. Soxx 15, tigger 12 and selina 3. 😚

I'm curious: since the coronavirus/covid19 is supposed to be able to live on surfaces for up to 9 days, does that also mean that it could CONCEIVABLY live on the bodies of the deceased for up to 9 days? And if that is true, then what precautions should those in the funeral industry take considering that you already wear gowns/gloves/full face shields when handling/preparing bodies?? I have yet to see anyone doing a video covering this topic & I'm sure other viewers are curious as well. Hope to hear your thoughts on this.....
I live in WI. Definitely go to Ireland. I did, it was amazing. I'm at a point, I'm making my final plans. Definitely cremation. It's hard as I have no family members. The siblings are estranged....long story. My Mom passed will be 8 yrs on Nov. 3. I was a hair stylist. I helped in getting her dressed, '& doing her hair. She looked like a queen. I so miss her. We took a cross country trip in our minivan with our 2 teenage sons. We drove from Philly suburbs to California, stopping at different cool places along the way, we drove from LA to San Francisco and then drove home along the northern States. We've been to 45 States at this point. I'm originally from Scotland
We have lovely countryside in Wales too, such a shame you didn’t have the time to travel down the M4 motorway (Freeway) from London to Wales when you was over in the UK.
I don't like to try things on in a store. I have a few places I have found that I know exactly how their clothes will fit on me. I either order online or from one of their catalogs. Rarely am I disappointed. My quirky thing is that I cannot stand to have poop get on my hand even though I know I will wash my hands. I always put on an exam glove to wipe myself. I keep a box of gloves under the vanity by the toilet, a few in my purse, sometimes one tucked away in my bra for emergencies, and when I am at work at the hospice house I just grab one from a drawer. I know...very odd.
I eat pizza using cutlery and (related to your fear of being on the ocean and not knowing what's down there) the sight of partially sunken or grounded ships freaks me out. I've read up on it and it's known as Submerchanophobia.
You are a very complex person, but nice to see you putting it out there. I hope you can overcome some of your fears. Three things I fear are spiders, snakes, and stupid people. Oh, yea I also hate high open spaces. Enough said on that subject but I really enjoyed your UK funeral experience.

Yes , going to the store and trying clothes , not all the time at least that is very very necessary other than that I try at home and I have to shower first. Groceries well I like to pick and choose. Oddest fact about me is the way I eat M&Ms. I separate out all the Red, Yellow and Green ones then put them in trios of one of each color so I can eat TRAFFIC LIGHTS!! I like to grocery shop as well because I get satisfaction from the decision making process what's in the cart is there because I chose it not someone else. It may be that while I get the brand I want there is something about a certain container on the shelf I don't like and opt for another one there. I now live with relatives in a multi generation household so very rarely get a chance to do that now.
I don’t bite on my nail but I pick on them and and tear off the part sticking out. It gets way worse when I’m anxious. So I paint my nails because then I can pick off the nail polish instead.
On phobias etc. During a lecture a demonstration showed when children are being assessed chiropractically that they did better and were stronger with being held by mother. The comfort of significant others at times of duress can help as programming and strengthening.
one thing major for me where my kids even tease me is theres like wet earrings or jewelry left on the counter in the bathroom absolutely grosses me out! my daughter left her earrings in the shower and i literally freaked like my fingers and the bottom of my feet were tingling....ehhh😬
Hi Kari , I have maybe too big a fear of heights to skydive. A man I know was a paratrooper in Vietnam and says it's not the fall that kills you , it's the sudden stop.
Hi Kari: The last few months I have watched you tube videos instead of regular TV. I learn and enjoy it more than the nonsense on TV. I think I'm up to date on all your videos because you are informative without being morbid. I don't understand why I find information about the funeral industry interesting. You responded to a question regarding my husband and why he looked so different at his viewing. Fact about me: I'm 71, retired and spent most of my adult life going to college while working first in a hospital and then in adult education. Can't think of particular quirks except, driving in the mountains. It scares me because I don't want to fall off. I don't live by any mountains so it isn't an ongoing problem. The other fear I have are mice. They are cute but gross. I've had many a cat bring me one, only to freak out. I'm a grandmother of two boys. My oldest went to heaven almost four years ago and the younger one is 13. I'm sure you know, losing a child or grandchild is something that changes one's life forever. Love your station. Bless you
When you can get to Italy, 2 hints to stretch your $$$... 1. Cheapest flights are into Rome, then you can take the high speed train up to Venice and work your way down to Florence, with local trains to Pisa, Lucca and other places in Tuscany, then back to Rome where (after touring more sites than you'll ever have time for...) you can get bus tours to Naples and Pompeii. 2. In early spring and late fall, you can get super deals on repositioning cruises from US to Italy (spring) and Italy back to US (fall)
I can't believe how many of your things are mine too. I am a middle child also with an older sister and younger brother!!! My family says don't say 'it "around her...she remembers the smallest details!!! AND they claim I am the returning Queen!!! I NEVER get undressed in the stores!!! Always think there are cameras!!! I do LOVE the ocean though. And I don't have any weird drain or other things that freak me out. I also, for a time thought about be a mortician. BUT I wasn't sure I could do it and my family thought I was nuts. They were not supportive.....at all!!! Complete opposite. So I went into health care.....I think I would have been happier not to have my patients talk back to me!!!! And maybe I would be too involved into how and why the person died and what kind of a life and person they were. I was wondering if anyone else in your family was a mortician and how did they react when you said you were going to be one?

When I was a child some kids set fire to our bonfire before it was bonfire night!...The fire brigade was called,I was on my way to my Auntie's there the fireman were,it was dark,silent,they were running about,I was scared!... 😭

hey kari thanks for sharing i dont try clothes on either i return a lot lol i was wondering if you answered my questions and i missed it the first one was what is the cement slab on top of the ground in grave yards is it the vault the second is does the vault have a plug in it that you take out so water can come in or is it dry and sealed i saw where caskets were floating in the water in floods that would be terrible thanks so much.

Clearly to regard to those who you are not in a relationship it is their loss. I am happy you found deep love in your life love that makes you happy in your soul. The last time I try clothes on in a store the lock on the door jammed, so I was locked in that little dressing room. I tend to be a bit of panic. that increased to a feeling of claustrophobia. When the clerk said I can't find the store manager...he is not answering his phone or the page. It was then that I totally lost it - pounding on the door loudly yelling get me out. Get me out NOW. They found the manager as I was starting to push against the door casing and it started to give. The manager on the other side was yelling don't break the door! PLEASE SIR - Don't break the door. I was yelling back get me out SIR ...get me out now SIR... I admit there were some F BOMBS dropped in my panic and yelling. They were calling the fire department however the manager was able to jimmy undoing the lock and free me. Everyone who was witnessing this applauded when I got out. It was quite a scene. So I now share your fear. Lesson learned - I do not go into dressing rooms in the store. NEVER AGAIN! LOL

I've been a student of WW2 since before I was in high school which makes it 45 + years, I have a veritable library of books about the various battles and personalities, both famous and infamous. Want to shut me up for a night? Give me any kind of history book, stick me in a corner, and you won't hear from for the rest of the night. The other thing is I'm biggest sucker for trains you'll ever know. I don't know why, I just am. I watch the various rail cams on You Tube.
Kari, what brand of computer and camera 📸 do you use? Are you difficult to get along with with the man in your life? Why did you get divorced. ( I'm divorced) I am a recovering nail biter. I have to be careful about putting my nails in my mouth. I was a voracious nail biter. Always wondered why I developed this habit. I am greatfull I have overcome this habit but have to be careful to keep my nails out of my mouth. I am greatfull I never took up smoking. People who die of smoking are difficult to embalm because their circulation system is destroyed. I just celebrated 30 years of continuous sobriety so I didn't escape the rsvages of alcoholism.

And, while I’m at it, I’m sorry for the loss of your puppy and you’re right - there will never be another one like him, but take it from someone who knows - every animal has their own distinct personality, and they bring such joy. We’ve lost 3 beloved dogs (well, one of them wasn’t all that beloved by my partner) and one grumpy cat over the years.. oddly enough, it was the cat that broke my heart. But now we have a beautiful black lab, a young pit bull (they get a bad rep) that was found abandoned and who is turning into the sweetest dog we’ve ever had - and another grumpy cat. I can’t imagine life without them - and hope to be reunited with all of them on the Other Side!
This may be one of the best of yours I've seen. I also have a terrific memory of details of other people. The quirk of that is I don't let on that I know some detail of there life, but drop little hints in conversation.
I love animals, especially bunnies. I have 2 now. I eat tacos twice a week or I get grumpy. Ok, here goes. I'm scared to death of anything funeral related. I run if I see a hearse or I get jitters driving by a funeral home. When my parents passed I almost ran trying to pick something for dad. Mom was cremated so I didn't even go in. When I was little (from 3 on) if an aunt passed they would hold me kicking and screaming right up in her face to say goodbye. I also notice Southerners are touchy feely with the loved one. You are so cute and sweet!
Kari, I find it humourous that given what goes on in a prep room, a room that has plenty of drains/flush sinks & all, that you have a fear of those objects. And thanks again for sharing some personal details about yourself.
@@KaritheMortician Kari, have you ever been in the back of house in a restaurant or college cafeteria? They have something in the dishwashing areas called a grease trap. Captures all the residual fats from plates and cookware. The smell makes decomposition smell like Chanel no. 5. It's vile and the sight of what's inside is even worse.

Hi Kari, we have a lot in common. I’m very organized, also will never try cloths on at any store ever! I did Parasailing 3 times at about 600 feet in height. No where nearly as high as you went; but at one time I did want to sky dive! I always wanted children but I have no human babies just my one fur baby Yorkie Terrier (Gia) who is about 6lbs. I have a huge fear of dying a really painful death. I’m vegetarian, been a vegetarian since I’m around 8 years old when it wasn’t popular. I’ve been divorced too. It’s not easy at all but you learn from your mistakes right? 😊 I love love detective shows & podcast, I love forensics, I love anything having to do with after life and dying. Call me weird... I’m unemployed now for about 2 1/2 years but that’s another story... it’s a long winded reason why...I’m ashamed to say but I’m kinda addicted to Bravo. I love the History channel and love watching Travel Channel “Dead Files” anything having to do with Hauntings or Ghosts, Angels, etc. I loved learning more about you, I find you to be the most sweetest sincere person and I admire your choice in career. (wished I could do it too). PS I would love to work in the funeral business myself but I’m pretty sure in NJ you need a duel license and I’m doubtful I’d get through the embalmer part of this very important job. I was going to recommend the possibility of Parasailing if Skydiving may have freaked you out. In NJ though, where I've flown three times, this means your 'chute tethered and controlled from a speedboat ON the Ocean about 500' down. THEN I heard how the ocean freaks you, so ......no good for you to try!!

Hi kari, I’m near Edinburgh Scotland. I am scared of spiders. I hate trying cloths on in shops too. I love to order online shopping. Due to my condition Turner syndrome, I have a obsession with time, if someone says they will come at 2pm and they don’t come till 2:30pm I freak out and worry until they arrive, I am early for everything. I love cats I have 3. Soxx 15, tigger 12 and selina 3. 😚

Hey Kari. Here's a current events question. I'm curious: since the coronavirus/covid19 is supposed to be able to live on surfaces for up to 9 days, does that also mean that it could CONCEIVABLY live on the bodies of the deceased for up to 9 days? And if that is true, then what precautions should those in the funeral industry take considering that you already wear gowns/gloves/full face shields when handling/preparing bodies?? I have yet to see anyone doing a video covering this topic & I'm sure other viewers are curious as well. Hope to hear your thoughts on this.....
It is the same precautions as always. Many deceased have germs and contaminates which is why we take the precautions that we do.
I live in WI. Definitely go to Ireland. I did, it was amazing. I'm at a point, I'm making my final plans. Definitely cremation. It's hard as I have no family members. The siblings are estranged....long story. My Mom passed will be 8 yrs on Nov. 3. I was a hair stylist. I helped in getting her dressed, '& doing her hair. She looked like a queen. I so miss her. Love your videos. A lot I know because I've been to soooo many funerals. See you soon ....

Yay! This was so fun! Bring on the "wacky personal facts!" I'm pretty newly separated myself (soon to be divorced), would love to skydive, I love the ocean but have trypophobia, my travel list is topped by Australia and New Zealand but also want to go to all the US states, I JUST LOOKED UP A STRAWBERRY SPROUTING AND IT RUINED MY WHOLE DAY, going to the movies alone is super fun... apparently I have more in common with my favorite funeral director than I thought!
We took a cross country trip in our minivan with our 2 teenage sons. We drove from Philly suburbs to California, stopping at different cool places along the way, we drove from LA to San Francisco and then drove home along the northern States. We've been to 45 States at this point. I'm originally from Scotland

We have lovely countryside in Wales too, such a shame you didn’t have the time to travel down the M4 motorway (Freeway) from London to Wales when you was over in the UK.

I don't like to try things on in a store. I have a few places I have found that I know exactly how their clothes will fit on me. I either order online or from one of their catalogs. Rarely am I disappointed.
My quirky thing is that I cannot stand to have poop get on my hand even though I know I will wash my hands. I always put on an exam glove to wipe myself. I keep a box of gloves under the vanity by the toilet, a few in my purse, sometimes one tucked away in my bra for emergencies, and when I am at work at the hospice house I just grab one from a drawer. I know...very odd.
So nice to find a place with clothing that fits perfectly!
I eat pizza using cutlery and (related to your fear of being on the ocean and not knowing what's down there) the sight of partially sunken or grounded ships freaks me out. I've read up on it and it's known as Submerchanophobia.

Oddest fact about me is the way I eat M&Ms. I separate out all the Red, Yellow and Green ones then put them in trios of one of each color so I can eat TRAFFIC LIGHTS!! I like to grocery shop as well because I get satisfaction from the decision making process what's in the cart is there because I chose it not someone else. It may be that while I get the brand I want there is something about a certain container on the shelf I don't like and opt for another one there. I now live with relatives in a multi generation household so very rarely get a chance to do that now.

I don’t bite on my nail but I pick on them and and tear off the part sticking out. It gets way worse when I’m anxious. So I paint my nails because then I can pick off the nail polish instead.

On phobias etc. During a lecture a demonstration showed when children are being assessed chiropractically that they did better and were stronger with being held by mother. The comfort of significant others at times of duress can help as programming and strengthening.

Hi Kari: The last few months I have watched you tube videos instead of regular TV. I learn and enjoy it more than the nonsense on TV. I think I'm up to date on all your videos because you are informative without being morbid. I don't understand why I find information about the funeral industry interesting. You responded to a question regarding my husband and why he looked so different at his viewing. Fact about me: I'm 71, retired and spent most of my adult life going to college while working first in a hospital and then in adult education. Can't think of particular quirks except, driving in the mountains. It scares me because I don't want to fall off. I don't live by any mountains so it isn't an ongoing problem. The other fear I have are mice. They are cute but gross. I've had many a cat bring me one, only to freak out. I'm a grandmother of two boys. My oldest went to heaven almost four years ago and the younger one is 13. I'm sure you know, losing a child or grandchild is something that changes one's life forever. Love your station. Bless you

When you can get to Italy, 2 hints to stretch your $$$...
1. Cheapest flights are into Rome, then you can take the high speed train up to Venice and work your way down to Florence, with local trains to Pisa, Lucca and other places in Tuscany, then back to Rome where (after touring more sites than you'll ever have time for...) you can get bus tours to Naples and Pompeii.
2. In early spring and late fall, you can get super deals on repositioning cruises from US to Italy (spring) and Italy back to US (fall)

I can't believe how many of your things are mine too. I am a middle child also with an older sister and younger brother!!! My family says don't say 'it "around her...she remembers the smallest details!!! AND they claim I am the returning Queen!!! I NEVER get undressed in the stores!!! Always think there are cameras!!! I do LOVE the ocean though. And I don't have any weird drain or other things that freak me out. I also, for a time thought about be a mortician. BUT I wasn't sure I could do it and my family thought I was nuts. They were not supportive.....at all!!! Complete opposite. So I went into health care.....I think I would have been happier not to have my patients talk back to me!!!! And maybe I would be too involved

hey kari thanks for sharing i dont try clothes on either i return a lot lol i was wondering if you answered my questions and i missed it the first one was what is the cement slab on top of the ground in grave yards is it the vault the second is does the vault have a plug in it that you take out so water can come in or is it dry and sealed i saw where caskets were floating in the water in floods that would be terrible thanks so much.

The last time I try clothes on in a store the lock on the door jammed, so I was locked in that little dressing room. I tend to be a bit of panic. that increased to a feeling of claustrophobia. When the clerk said I can't find the store manager...he is not answering his phone or the page. It was then that I totally lost it - pounding on the door loudly yelling get me out. Get me out NOW. They found the manager as I was starting to push against the door casing and it started to give.
The manager on the other side was yelling don't break the door! PLEASE SIR - Don't break the door. I was yelling back get me out SIR ...get me out now SIR... I admit there were some F BOMBS dropped in my panic and yelling. They were calling the fire department however the manager was able to jimmy undoing the lock and free me. Everyone who was witnessing this applauded when I got out. It was quite a scene.
So I now share your fear. Lesson learned - I do not go into dressing rooms in the store. NEVER AGAIN! LOL

I've been a student of WW2 since before I was in high school which makes it 45 + years, I have a veritable library of books about the various battles and personalities, both famous and infamous. Want to shut me up for a night? Give me any kind of history book, stick me in a corner, and you won't hear from for the rest of the night. The other thing is I'm biggest sucker for trains you'll ever know. I don't know why, I just am. I watch the various rail cams on You Tube.
Kari, what brand of computer and camera 📸 do you use? Are you difficult to get along with with the man in your life? Why did you get divorced. ( I'm divorced) I am a recovering nail biter. I have to be careful about putting my nails in my mouth. I was a voracious nail biter. Always wondered why I developed this habit. I am greatfull I have overcome this habit but have to be careful to keep my nails out of my mouth. I am greatfull I never took up smoking. People who die of smoking are difficult to embalm because their circulation system is destroyed. I just celebrated 30 years of continuous sobriety so I didn't escape the rsvages of alcoholism.
I AM a middle child I have an older brother, then me,then a younger brother. I also don't like the ocean or the sand.

And, while I’m at it, I’m sorry for the loss of your puppy and you’re right - there will never be another one like him, but take it from someone who knows - every animal has their own distinct personality, and they bring such joy. We’ve lost 3 beloved dogs (well, one of them wasn’t all that beloved by my partner) and one grumpy cat over the years.. oddly enough, it was the cat that broke my heart. But now we have a beautiful black lab, a young pit bull (they get a bad rep) that was found abandoned and who is turning into the sweetest dog we’ve ever had - and another grumpy cat. I can’t imagine life without them - and hope to be reunited with all of them on the Other Side!
This may be one of the best of yours I've seen. I also have a terrific memory of details of other people. The quirk of that is I don't let on that I know some detail of there life, but drop little hints in conversation.

I love animals, especially bunnies. I have 2 now. I eat tacos twice a week or I get grumpy. Ok, here goes. I'm scared to death of anything funeral related. I run if I see a hearse or I get jitters driving by a funeral home. When my parents passed I almost ran trying to pick something for dad. Mom was cremated so I didn't even go in. When I was little (from 3 on) if an aunt passed they would hold me kicking and screaming right up in her face to say goodbye. I also notice Southerners are touchy feely with the loved one. You are so cute and sweet!

@@KaritheMortician Kari, have you ever been in the back of house in a restaurant or college cafeteria? They have something in the dishwashing areas called a grease trap. Captures all the residual fats from plates and cookware.
The smell makes decomposition smell like Chanel no. 5. It's vile and the sight of what's inside is even worse.
Oh I am with you on the Ocean and the trying on clothes at the store I hate them both too!
