Hi. Did you have any TEFL course in your resume while applying for the non Jet jobs? I am currently taking one and hope it might give me a slight boost in the selection process. Gonna apply for JET too but I do know that the likelihood of rejection is quite high. That's why I'm entertaining a lot of other options as well.
I did not have any certifications and I was offered 3/4jobs I applied for ( I didn’t get an interview for JET). I think it does look good to have certifications on your resume!
(Current JET ALT here) Just wanted to comment in response to your "I'm not sure why I got rejected": I think the key here is that you focused on academics and interest in Japan (at least judging from what you've discussed in the first half of your video) - but in reality, this is ultimately a teaching job. Yes, they don't *require* teaching experience and qualifications, but it's important to demonstrate a genuine passion for teaching, not just for living in Japan. Grades, Japanese level, etc are not really that important in comparison... Definitely agree with your suggestions for alternatives and how to find "teaching experience" to emphasise in your cover letter, great advice :)
Oh that's a good point! Actually, I didn't mention it in the video, but I did focus on a volunteer teaching thing I did on my cover letter, so I don't think that was the case.... In that part of the video I was just reading out the website's top listed requirements and noting that teaching experience isn't needed to apply. I should of specified about that a bit more though. Anyway, thanks so much for watching and stopping by here!~^^
Did you have a visible tattoo? If I were a recruiter for a teacher in a public school or any professional job in banking, IT, etc, candidates with visible tattoos would be the first elimination. It's because they won't be taken seriously in Japan even as hair-dressers or make-up artists, let alone bankers, lawyers, or even soldiers. There is only one prism for the selection; is he/she is suitable for a public school teacher in Japan?

My cousin was rejected from this program too, it must be more difficult. Not too sure of the process, but I wish you luck in your future endeavors!
Thanks so much!! ^^
