Things to do in Kichijoji Tokyo ll Speaking Only Japanese for a Day ll Intermediate Level
Sharing my favorite spots in my favorite Tokyo neighborhood while speaking only Japanese for the day. Not gonna lie this was rough and I almost didn’t post it because..well.. I’m super embarrassed and it was hard to see all of the mistakes I made caught on film. BUT I do think it’s important to share the journey and not just the success on the end, so decided to be vulnerable and put this out there anyway.

    Did you have a visible tattoo? If I were a recruiter for a teacher in a public school or any professional job in banking, IT, etc, candidates with visible tattoos would be the first elimination. It's because they won't be taken seriously in Japan even as hair-dressers or make-up artists, let alone bankers, lawyers, or even soldiers. There is only one prism for the selection; is he/she is suitable for a public school teacher in Japan?

    Which is more convenient and cheep public transport or renting car for 2 person

    • @ChefinJapan
      @ChefinJapan Месяц назад

      Public transport is usually cheaper. If you’re in a major city like Tokyo, Kyoto, Sendai, etc 100% def take public transportation. There’s no street parking and driving between cities gets expensive with tolls. BUT if you’re going somewhere off the beaten path in a rural area where there’s only like 1 bus per hour, or sometimes completely inaccessible by public transport, I’d recommend renting a car. You’ll be able to access a lot more places and it’s wayy more convenient. Some bus routes in the countryside stop running by 4pm 💀

    The JET Programme is not a company. It's a program run by the Japanese government. I don't think they do subsidized housing, in general. I did have a subsidized apartment when I worked in the JET Programme and paid about $60 a month for rent. But, not everyone gets that. The apartments are for public school teachers, so all my neighbors were teachers. But only a few of these apartments were set aside for foreign English teachers. There were many more JETs who did not live in the subsidized housing than ones that did. I'll say the apartment complex had about 24 apartments and 5 of them were foreign English teachers...
