Paul often talks about his dreams in interviews, meeting his mother, talking to John. He is a prolific dreamer. I find it touching when you look to Imagine "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one"
I find dreams fascinating... and who's to say that when you dream of people that have passed, that it isn't really them somehow communicating with you? Maybe it's when we sleep that we are closer to what they are... just consciousness. Maybe it really is John in Paul's dreams. I find that both sad and beautifully comforting. John popping in to see how his friend's doing, and perhaps serving as inspiration for more music... which I think John would get a kick out of, because as he's currently corporeally challenged he can't write music here on Earth. What better way to keep making music then through his old friend and partner?
I've often thought of how incredibly fortunate it was to be a young teenager when The Beatles burst onto the world stage and influenced us all... I was 14 when I heard my first Beatles song very late in 1963, not long after the horror of the assassination of President Kennedy.

I am glad "Get Back" from Peter Jackson gets the record straight for us and for Paul and Ringo about that time and how much love and respect they had for each other. I think it's really sad that they were talked into thinking they had a bad time with their break up coming along, it was such a creative time. Although I know Paul fell into a deep depression afterwards because he really wanted to keep the Beatles together and didn't know what to do without his mates. I remember him talking about how Linda helped him through this difficult time. BUT neither of them was a villain.

Gethsemane, were you there when Paul drove around Liverpool with James Cordan? It was amazing, the effect Paul had on the stunned people he materialized in front of.
Who wouldn't be? If you haven't seen it look up "Carpool Karaoke" with Paul McCartney - it is awesome! James Corden rides around Liverpool with Paul, singing his songs and hearing stories, and seeing the old places he would go, including the barbershop on Penny Lane, and the house that he lived in with his dad, where he and John wrote "She Loves You", and then they went to a pub where the Beatles used to play, and Paul put on a surprise show and people began pouring in off the streets. If I could have that day, I think I could die happy right after.
@Beatle Stories I loved when he told the story about his dad - especially the part about, "yeah, yeah, yeah" and him saying it was a nice song, but don't they have enough of these "Americanisms"? Couldn't they sing "yes, yes, yes" instead?
Abhinav Srivastava Yes!! Unbelievable. A super fan interviews a legend...in an extremely respectful way, asking extremely personal details, BUT Paul responds to his reverence. Love it.
That's the thing. A lot of interviewers try to make it about themselves. When you're interviewing someone it's not about you, it's about who you're interviewing
The picture of John and Paul has always been my favourite and I wish there was a way of owning a copy. Their body language shows friendship and respect despite the band coming apart. Bless Linda for a capturing the moment.
Paul McCartney has seen basically all of the greatest musicians of the 20th and 21st century. But of all the people in the music industry, the only person to be his equal was John. The day they meet again will be sad for us but will be great for those above us. Love you forever Paul.

molly tsanadis There is a song (by another band written by another artist) that Paul said that it made him cry the first time he heard it. Subsequently over the years it still causes his eyes to well up to this day whenever he hears it. It's amazing that someone who is responsible for authoring and composing either in part, or totality, some of the most beautiful songs ever written can be moved to tears by another master. That song lies across the pond somewhere in a place that God only knows.
Well the points were brought up within a larger context, some people ARE ABLE to bear a conversation which included some past sad elements. Notice he wasn't crying? Get over yourselves.
Truth Hurts you’re aware these stars are told what they’re gonna be asked about before the show right, idiot? Paul McCartney had no problem with these questions, he gave them the okay.
Imagine having the honour of meeting this legend, i'm 21, they broker up 30 years before I was born! That just shows you what a massive impact they had, and still have to this very day!
How about this: STOP TALKING ABOUT YESTERDAY AND LET IT BE AND START TALKING ABOUT STUFF THAT WE HAVEN’T HEARD YET, like Paul’s relationship with Denny Laine in Wings.
I saw a t-shirt once that had a picture of Paul and above his head it read,"He shot the wrong Beatle." I think that was after Paul sold all the Beatles music to Michael Jackson, and *no.way* would John have allowed that.
And George too! But John had a certain character that only exists with him. It's sharp and biting like his wit, but ethereal and timeless like his soul. John Lennon epitomizes the term "musical genius".
It's hard to even fathom the impact this man has made on the world. His life's work has touched more lives than probably any other musician or band in history, and he still seems to be such a kind, gentle soul. The world would've been a far poorer place had the Beatles never existed, and I feel like we all (myself included) often take for granted just how big a place they have in our lives, whether directly, or via another one of our favourite bands. Thank you for everything, Sir Paul. Truly one of a kind. ❤️
If you love their music, then you will love Paul in car pool karaoke. The video is here on this site. I had tears in my eyes all through it, and I am not usually given to tears.
Terms like, "national treasure", or in this case, "international treasure", get batted around way too much. With Paul and Ringo, though, I don't think there could be enough accolades and flattering titles. So many of us owe Paul a dept for all the joy he's given us. Not long ago here in LA I was in the hospital. One of the nurses, probably 45ish, great nurse, when I mentioned a Beatles song admitted “I’ve never listened to them”. I obviously told her she should and that didn’t know what she was missing out on … but can you imagine? Never having The Beatles in your life? It just left me dumbstruck.
Great guy,Paul.I saw him once on the Tube in London.Didnt hassle or approach him,I looked at him and we just sort of nodded at each other!Surreal moment in my life!
John was a deeply flawed person who's faults are largely ignored. The way he abused Cynthia and Julian was terrible, and he lashed out and hurt his bandmates with his insensitive insults. It's quite telling that he had few close friends after he left the Beatles...whereas the other three were surrounded by friends.
Every time I see Paul I am close to crying. Because he looks quite like my mum at the same age who died recently. She was an incredible musician too, not a song writer, but a soprano opera singer, opera coach and concert pianist. Highly talented like Paul. But its the humanity of the soul that comes through, thats the similarity, and the burning desire to share music with others because they love it. I have this too.MUSIC, the greatest of human wonders next LOVE.
Made me cry! Paul is such a living legend. He's affected all of our lives, the world. His energy is endearing, ever-lasting. Starstruck Steven is just another fan...he was lost on the interview. I think he just wanted to say I LOVE YOU PAUL; just like the rest of us mere mortals!

I mean, they are literally already being forgotten, and their music along with them. Remember when Paul did that song with Kanye West and a ton of kids had no clue who "this old dude" was? Give it 30 years, you'll have to explain who the Beatles were to most people. That's just time; try to romanticize them all you want, but even legends fade, just like everything else.

Welcome to my life in 1999! It only went up from there.
beyounglove TRA LALA LA LA LA LA TRALL UP FOR THE MYSTERY TOUR
Not long ago here in LA I was in the hospital. One of the nurses, probably 45ish, great nurse, when I mentioned a Beatles song admitted “I’ve never listened to them”. I obviously told her she should and that didn’t know what she was missing out on … but can you imagine? Never having The Beatles in your life? It just left me dumbstruck.
who the hell raised her?
Great guy,Paul.I saw him once on the Tube in London.Didnt hassle or approach him,I looked at him and we just sort of nodded at each other!Surreal moment in my life!
The movie "Yesterday" opened the Beatles catalogue to my daughter.
Not a bad thing
Well at least it did that.
You should have done it before that.
It opened it to me
Not opened, but it amplified for me, now I’m obsessed with the Beatles.
An excellent thing.
Such a great guy Paul.. Wished John was alive as well... The two of them can make more magic
John was a deeply flawed person who's faults are largely ignored.
The way he abused Cynthia and Julian was terrible, and he lashed out and hurt his bandmates with his insensitive insults.
It's quite telling that he had few close friends after he left the Beatles...whereas the other three were surrounded by friends.
charles harper So... what’s it like being perfect?

You can't ignore Lennon's flaws when discussing the relationship between John and Paul...Lennon was a jerk at times.
Paul has had access to the best studio and touring musicians since 66 probably.
Judging by the lukewarm songs on the Beatles Anthology the others finished after John's death, the magic was petering out...
1:13 “But then I found music and...John” Paul McCartney always hit me right in the feelings
He's great, but that's not the original Paul~
@@bevsputler5455 oh oh I thought the "Paul is Dead" group disbanded when LSD went out of fashion.
I really need to re-evaluate their music. I didn't grow up listening to them but in comparison, the Beatles sound far better than the noise we have today. Great interview Mr. Colbert!
Listening to the Beatles albums in order is a crash course in the evolution of popular music...they changed it completely.
It's best to listen to their discography in order of release for evaluation. It really helps to understand their impact.
Paul is such a character… I love him so much!! What a good guy he is ❤️
"Sir Paul" (William) is just playing a role.
Paul McCartney is such a gift to humanity. A real gem. I love him 🥰
A gift to humanity if you really think that you're beyond stupid
@@judeevans7308 Hey Jude, don't make it bad 😂
It's so true. The exact same songs, written today, would still be just as significant.
No, they are given Boomer hype. Until '66 they are actually forgettable boyband pop.
@@RollingOrmond nope they just ended up the route of most legends that are timeless
Became music for babies haha
Like classical music
I'd be honored if some Beatles fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of PENNY LANE and BLACKBIRD on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of the many genius compositions written by Sir Paul McCartney. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital enhancements. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
Rolling Ormond do you like talking from your asshole?
@@RollingOrmond You are the peak of human ignorance.
The Beatles are a legend, their music/songs never to be forgotten!

Stop flogging your crap...it's not about you.
Republic of Us, don't worry dude because soon enough, a ton of kids will have no idea who Kanye West is, but they'll all know Paul McCartney...
Exactly, Kanye who. Sir Paul is music royalty.
Paul is so funny. So endearing. Just makes you love him even more beyond his music.
Liverpool is renowned for its humour, I think the Beatles showcased it perfectly.
Lennon and Macartney eternal buddies for sure. ❤️
Lennon and McCartney are the greatest love story of the 20th century.
Stephen, your best interview ever..you brought out this legend..glad to have witnessed..
“Let it be” is also a legendary song Paul made by dream
And about his mother, Mary.
A dream song if there ever was one.
From his mum!
Say what you like about Paul, he really did love John. Love you Paul, John, George & Ringo.
Right there's Paul's secret: he is a fantastic story teller
"Well, it was a pretty good plug for me." I just love Paul. Always right on time with his sense of humor. I cant imagine where we would be without all the music that he has provided.
Deep down we all suspect Paul still loves John & misses him dearly. They were a fantastic writing duo & their songs will endure for many decades to come. Sure he misses George too but John left us in the most inconceivable way, who would think. Check out "Yesterday" the movie, regardless of some critics it's a fun, likeable film. I loved it.
PAUL, he is so incredibly special.
indeed
