@Laurel - Cynthia was just another girlfriend he could have as their local fame had created a situation they could pick and choose from. And he got her pregnant. Brian arranged a quiet and quick marriage in August 1962, as you have to remember that would have been a huge scandal, which they didn't need as they were trying to go big and have this clean-cut image. Paul had several like that, too, but he denied getting them pregnant and the organization was able to pay them off. So John had no love for Cynthia really. Sometimes you wonder if John didn't consider both of them as an unfair burden that he couldn't get rid of. Clearly, John hadn't grown up, and being rich, felt he didn't have to. With the death of Brian Epstein in August 1967, there was no one to tell John "no" and he did whatever he wanted to do, which included dumping the noose around his neck.

Bunni Armani You are right. His Aunt raised him and I bet she did not like Yoko like she liked Cynthia honestly. Dale Sr.’s family more or less greatly disliked Teresa Earnhardt, Dale Sr.’s 3rd and final wife, but loved his second wife.
Julian, you have always had a special place in my heart. I am so sorry the way you were ignored by your father and disrespected by Yoko. You were so lucky to have a mother who taught you what it is like to have a parent who loves you completely, who supports you 💯%. Your relationship with your mother was healthy, full of compassion, kindness and love. She had a beautiful soul. You were her pride and joy, just as she was to you. You are certainly a remarkable man! Wishing you the best, always.
Julian has handled himself with dignity and class for as long as I can remember. His musical efforts over the years have also stood the test of time. Thanks, man.....you've always honored the memories of both your parents.....
Cynthia was an incredible mom, for sure. And you know- Paul was there for him in a big big way. Very cool that Julian and Sean are buds, surely Yoko's biggest defeat. :)

This is 100% true, but let’s not forget what his father did for the world. He wasn’t the best person and a terrible father, but he brought joy to so so many lives, even almost 40 years after his death. That’s truly amazing and I think Julian understands it all by now. He had a wonderful mother and turned out to be a great person, so I think everything turned out just fine in the end. The love you take is equal to the love you make.

What a lovely man. Whilst he sounds and looks very much like his dad he is mother's son and i think thats where his grounding comes from. I hope he has success withit. X
Based on what I read in Cynthia Lennon's book, the way he was received by Yoko and shown where his father had died was horrific for a 17 year old to take in. I doubt I could have handled being shown my fathers blood on the steps of the apartment building and being told "here is where your father died".
@@chriggle1 I suppose Yoko got instant karma but Julian being left out in the cold what could he do? His mother Cynthia brought him up well though, unlike John Lennon dysfunctional childhood.
Despite his earlier life and the lack of love from his father and the disgraceful way he was treated by Yoko Ona, Julian has grown up into a lovely, well balanced young man and I would imagine his mum has a bearing on this.. I wish him well in what ever he does in life. By the way, "Too Late to say Goodbye" was an excellent song and he should be proud.
He literally interrupts him every chance he gets, Julian cannot even get a one word in without Larry interrupting him. Please let the people speak for themselves!!
Larry is not interrupting. All interviewers must ask a series of questions, or bring up certain points to get the substance, and to obtain the facts from the person being interviewed. This is how Larry is conducting the interview with Julian, he is not interrupting him. Larry did an excellent job of obtaining pertinent and very personal experiences of Julian's life and his career. As it stands, Larry inducted a very good interview with Julian.
Good Lord of Mercy, the word should be conducted the interview! This bloody wicked phone has done it to me again! All the confounded and dastardly word tricks, I've had more than enough of it!
@loopy Ruane haha, you don't get it do you? Best way to try to shake some sense in these people is not to deny their god but to criticize their mistaken belief that one can only love "him". You jump to conclusions much?
It is for Julian, at least it is dedicated to him. Paul himself told so, why would he lie about it? He was on his way to visit Weybridge right after the separation and Paul had this inspiration to write a song for the kid. When he got there it was almost ready. And he told them it was for Julian. It's true John never believed on it. He always thought it was for him for the reason you said. However, I heard once 'her' in the song is not a woman. It it music! As you know there is something called poetical license. It would not sound so good to sing " you have found it". He knew Julian had already showed interest in music. And he meant the music could heal his soul. That is why he said "take a sad song and make it better". So, "you have found music, now go and get music in your life. The minute you let music under your skin then you'll begin to make it better. It may not be the right explanation, as I didn't hear it from anybody from his inner circle, but the moment I heard about it I found it logical. It made sense to me.
John used to beat Cynthia up. He also beat Julian a few times! Julian talked about it on an interview I saw in the 90’s. If I can find it on RUclips I will post a link.
It's about Julian. The story is, Julian was in Paul's car when Paul sang, Hey Jules, don't take it bad, in reference to John leaving Cynthia. Out of that came Hey Jude, of course. You got Julian being Five correct.
One reliable loving parent, one largely-absent somewhat indifferent parent. The story of so many - and he still strives to make his mum proud. Sometimes, it only takes the one...

Don't be fatuous, Jeffrey you know John didn’t totally disown Julian right ? He was till very present. Cynthia had sole custody of Julian, and she only allowed John to visit on holidays and their birthdays for some time. After a while she let John be with him more, taking Julian out on vacation sometimes with Yoko and Sean. It’s even said that at the end of Johns life his relationship with Julian was loving and healthy. You cannot fully excuse John from Julian’s life with that in mind.
I really like Julian .He had a great and loving mom(also a very creative person). His relationship with his dad was more complicated ...but I think he understands that his father had his own personal issues and sadness to deal with. Love and good thoughts for you Julian. You are a special man.

God bless you Julian - I'm 67, & through all the years & tough times you have traveled (& endured), the grounded, intuitive person you are is remarkable. I'm sure, nothing in this world made your Mum prouder than having you & your love as her son.
And what makes it sadder is John s father abandoned HIM so he jnew first hand how it felt and what it can do. It s sad when a marriage breaks up for ANY REASON, but you should NEVER divorce YOUR CHILD
John Lennon never abandoned Julian. That's a myth and I don't know why people persist with that myth. You will see plenty of pics of John in the 60's with Julian, even in that whirlwind time (Julian was born at the beginning of Beatlemania in 1963). When John moved to New York in the early 70's with Yoko he obviously couldn't see Julian as much as he wanted to but there are plenty of examples of John keeping in touch with his first born. 'hi Julian' on the 'Stand by Me' video, Julian playing drums on 'Walls and Bridges'. He took Julian on the sset of 'Happy Days'. It wasn't ideal that father was on one side of the Atlantic and son on the other side but it was never total abandonment. After John left us, Julian was quite happy to deputise for his old man on the Chuck Berry 60th birthday celebration in the mid '80's. If Julian had felt abandoned, why would he do that? As for the real beautiful boy comment, ...grow up,..Julian and Sean are very close, that's probably two of John's beautiful boys wouldn't you say?

I imagine that he's spent a very long, difficult time reconciling his father's behavior, so unlike his mother's. But, I got the vibe that's he's completely free from John's demons. He was loved and supported by a nuclear family. John was a shadow, and he's finally comfortable with that reality. He's a lovely man, indeed.
😊😊😮😅 this comment is pure nonsense... 🐇 Very few people had John's talent... or a small percentage of his gifts 😅 Paul McCartney certainly is on the same level. Yes for the grace, but Julian, whose a lovely person 💟 would certainly NOT compare himself to his father. ..💭
lindy frank The poor lad even had to buy, at auction, letters that he'd written to his dad. Some evil old witch put them up for auction. Everything has a price in Yoko's world, there's never rich enough or wicked enough.
Lennon is only an icon because of five other people: Paul, the two Georges, Ringo and Brian. He would not have made it as a solo artist, like Elvis...........
It would have been interesting for him to pursue acting and be accomplished actor. It might have worked out much better that way. Then he might not be compared to his father as much.
Julian grown up is very handsome 👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😇😇😇😇😇😇I also love photography it's a fun hobby! My older brother is a professional photographer, doing models, scenery etc
I met Julian in 1991 at Sharkey's Pool Hall in the Dallas suburbs, where he was interviewed and performed during Happy Hour! He was a wild child back then, running in and out the front door of the pool hall, laughing and joking around! I love his music. I'm a song writer, guitarist, and producer and can relate to the love of creating songs that people can really relate to and enjoy. Back in the 80's, I also had the pleasure of hanging out in Liverpool with Mike McCartney (Paul's brother from the band, Scaffold), Allan Williams (Beatles 1st manager), Pete Best (The Beatles' 1st drummer) and his mom, and Father Mackenzie (Eleanore Rigby fame). Allan Williams invited me to join him and his girl friend to ride back to London on the train the next day and I told him, "Thanks, I wish I could, but I just arrived in Liverpool to visit some friends of mine." I heard Allan died in December 2016. In retrospect, I wish I kept in touch with him. He told me he had a clothing store in London. I have these Beatle people on 8mm film that I need to edit and put on facebook and youtube as soon as I find the tapes! Ha!
What this man has been able to do by his own is remarkable. Julian is a true legend. Huge respect. Steely Dan are among my personal faves as well.👍👍 The width of Julian's music is impressive. "Saltwater" is still very actual today. Julian has a drive and a huge heart in everything he does. A true inspiration.
Julian, it is so nice to “meet” you after all these years. My children lost their father suddenly too when they were little. They, like you, are very fine adults. God bless you.

I wasn't much older when I lost my father. When he said his first concern was for his mother, I felt a connection. "How will I help my mom through this?" Was before, "I will never see my father again." Purpose before grief. Big hug Julian. I get it.
Forgiving yoko is a major accomplishment..she should had been more aware since her daughter Kyoko was kept from her. Such a shame she failed a kid. Cynthia was a class act.
Must echo comments here: Julian Lennon seems to be such a wonderful, intelligent, very British (which I adore) gentleman. Larry King should allow people answer at least one question. Just one to start with...
Can’t be easy being the son of a rock legend but let’s be fair Julian still made his own music and tracks like “To Late For Goodbye’s” and “Saltwater” are still fantastic tracks.
My god the industry missed out on this amazing man with brilliant talent because he was somebody's famous son... I can't even imagine how your youth was you are a blessing to this world and you want to Love by many
Julian Lennon. What an incredibly nice man...what a magnificent son....how utterly tragic your Dad missed out on Gods gift...you,you ,you. How beautiful a person was your mother. You are a brighter star than John...he had fame and glory....you my friend have it over him in spades this lifetime....you have love. Blessings ...you inspire.
He is a class act. His mother obviously was a big influence on him. Unfortunately, Larry constantly interrupts him and asks some ridiculous questions from his list. But Julian comes across as genuine and sincere. He was not treated fairly in the John/Yoko estate, but continues to carry on. It would be cool to see he and Dhani Harrison do something.
Kind of remember a song of his...But Julian, as a person...John Lennon’s greatest creation. Really a genuine nice person, very aware and compassionate. Hope he is truly happy now.

I think he sounds and looks like a carbon copy of John...the younger version. But I trust that he's a MUCH better person than John ever was or cared to be !
Julian is so intelligent, and interesting. He like many of us, when our Father’s passed, eventually realize, we don’t grieve so much for what was, but for realizing it’s more, realizing, we grieve for what will never be. He probably always had hope they would come back together, until he didn’t. Then forgiveness comes in, and love the people your with now.

@@stevenamato6289 so he deserves less than Yoko or sean ? What a joke
Julian is an absolutely beautiful soul! As I write this I have goosebumps all down my legs. He feels so deeply. What an amazing man! Thank you for this incredible interview.
I recall when Julian’s first album, “Valotte” was released in 1984. I bought the CD and was amazed how much he sounded like his dad. It’s been a rough ride for Julian, but he appears to have reconciled his life and the relationship with his dad. Kudos to you Julian! Wishing you nothing but the best!
As he said, he grew up.
to forgive, the highest thing a human can achieve, Julian, you're amazing
@R. Heemskerk - Well said.
Damn it all, Heemskirk!
I had to give you a thumbs up for that comment. Now, I can’t get back to my miserable mood and that’s the only way I can get any work done.
I wanna make my mother proud, that's what I want.... Julian is a real decent guy. I do believe his mother was proud of him, so sad that she has passed away.
Just learned the sad story.
R. I. P. Cynthia
And John Lennon made his mother proud of him too!

He wasn’t lucky because there’s no such thing as good or bad luck he was blessed to have a mother like Cynthia

John Lennon sure missed out on this Beautiful Son .✨

It is what it is. I think he and his mother are buttheads. His mother turned him into a butthead.
Julian has handled himself with dignity and class for as long as I can remember. His musical efforts over the years have also stood the test of time. Thanks, man.....you've always honored the memories of both your parents.....
No doubt that he's probably the most musically talented of all of the Beatles offspring!
Comes across has a genuine, nice guy.
That's cause he is.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Julian and he is that man
Unlike his father...
Most people are praising Cynthia about how he turned out. And I totally, completely AGREE!!
Cynthia was an incredible mom, for sure. And you know- Paul was there for him in a big big way.
Very cool that Julian and Sean are buds, surely Yoko's biggest defeat. :)
Wholeheartedly agree
Julian has always been a class act. He has never tried to exploit being John's son and has always wanted to be a self made man. He certainly is a better human being than his father ever was.
100% CORRECT.
You had to finish by comparing him to his dad. You're just like them and you don't even realise it. Fool
agreed.
Chris Ayres True lol
This is 100% true, but let’s not forget what his father did for the world. He wasn’t the best person and a terrible father, but he brought joy to so so many lives, even almost 40 years after his death. That’s truly amazing and I think Julian understands it all by now. He had a wonderful mother and turned out to be a great person, so I think everything turned out just fine in the end. The love you take is equal to the love you make.
Hey Jude, you certainly took a sad song and made it better. You are a legend in your own write. Love you, maggie mae

You could tell he was getting tears in his eyes about his father's unfortunate death. Julian is a class act.
I doubt I could have handled being shown my fathers blood on the steps of the apartment building and being told "here is where your father died".
chriggle1 I read that book (called “John”). Very interesting read.
" Saltwater wells in my eyes"
@@chriggle1 I suppose Yoko got instant karma but Julian being left out in the cold what could he do? His mother Cynthia brought him up well though, unlike John Lennon dysfunctional childhood.
Despite his earlier life and the lack of love from his father and the disgraceful way he was treated by Yoko Ona, Julian has grown up into a lovely, well balanced young man and I would imagine his mum has a bearing on this.. I wish him well in what ever he does in life. By the way, "Too Late to say Goodbye" was an excellent song and he should be proud.
He’s 59 years old.

I give all the credit to his mother for how Julian turned out. His mother is a wonderful women!
He seems very grounded. His mother did a fine job. His dad...not so much. I've always rooted for Julian.
@Mr. Jinks - Truth.
Thank-you, Mr. Jinks.
For our part, we root for you, too.
He literally interrupts him every chance he gets, Julian cannot even get a one word in without Larry interrupting him. Please let the people speak for themselves!!
Exactly what I was thinking the entire time. Larry King kept trying to finish all Julian's thoughts. Annoying.
You should see the Dan Rather interview with Geddy Lee. Textbook example of how an interview should be done.
@@stephenmiller2337 Yes, I've watched just about every one of Dan Rather's interviews; he's a polished professional.

@loopy Ruane Oh please. The best way to love Christ is to love all people. You are incredibly misled.
@loopy Ruane haha, you don't get it do you? Best way to try to shake some sense in these people is not to deny their god but to criticize their mistaken belief that one can only love "him". You jump to conclusions much?
loopy Ruane You’re proselytizing in a RUclips comment section. Nothing more foolish than that.
Julian is an astute, eloquent man, and I love his observations of the Beatles, his father, and music in general.
Every interview I’ve seen with him, he’s so interesting and intelligent.. He’s so creative, well grounded and lovely.
John treated Julian like he didn't even exist. He left him nothing in his will. Paul was more of a dad then John. Paul wrote 'Hey Jude' for Julian.
It made sense to me.
bodensick left him nothing and he didn't exist. Interesting that. If it was only true. Facts facts facts. Provide some please .
the facts are found in Julian's interviews. John left everything to Yoko and Sean...nothing to Julian or the wife he deserted, Cynthia
Sometimes, it only takes the one...

you're an odd little duck
Ironically that's also John's story.
Well said
Don't be fatuous, Jeffrey you know John didn’t totally disown Julian right ?

Julian Lennon is an awesome and underrated musician. He is a much nicer person than John Lennon was. He was a very good and kind person to his mother, Cynthia Lennon.
Amen
👍👍👍👍👍🇦🇨
T think you cannot say he was a not so nice person because you never know how troubled the soul within is
@Get Real Politics well...forming an opinion about what you see as the essence of another human being, is not against the law and is all anyone can do....sometimes you really do not know anymore about your own family members....
John Lennon didn’t have the love of his mother growing up in his formative years unlike Julian. You can’t compare them.
God bless you Julian - I'm 67, & through all the years & tough times you have traveled (& endured), the grounded, intuitive person you are is remarkable. I'm sure, nothing in this world made your Mum prouder than having you & your love as her son.
Hes the real beautiful boy. I don't know how a father of any child just ignores and abandons a child.
And what makes it sadder is John s father abandoned HIM so he jnew first hand how it felt and what it can do. It s sad when a marriage breaks up for ANY REASON, but you should NEVER divorce YOUR CHILD
That's such a great comment -- you took the words right out of my mouth. Applying that song to Julien, is perfect.
Eh, Sean seems like a great guy too now. A recent interview for John's 80th birthday really reflects the lovely bond they share.
John was a Beatle on tour when Julian was born....there's plenty of photos from Julian's young life proving he wasn't abandoned by John

His father's talent and his mother's grace.
Very few people had John's talent... or a small percentage of his gifts 😅
Paul McCartney certainly is on the same level. Yes for the grace, but

lindy frank The poor lad even had to buy, at auction, letters that he'd written to his dad. Some evil old witch put them up for auction. Everything has a price in Yoko's world, there's never rich enough or wicked enough.
It must be terribly difficult to be the child of such an icon.
Lennon is only an icon because of five other people: Paul, the two Georges, Ringo and Brian. He would not have made it as a solo artist, like Elvis...........
@Sharon Jensen right..hes great on his own..💝🎁🎈🎯
It would have been interesting for him to pursue acting and be accomplished actor. It might have worked out much better that way. Then he might not be compared to his father as much.

I found this to be quite an emotional interview. What a wonderful man he is.
What an honourable, kind, loving, gentleman he is.
Julian always comes across as being a genuinely nice guy and he also seems to be refreshingly down-to-earth.

The width of Julian's music is impressive. "Saltwater" is still very actual today.
