Didn't really hit the ball my best today. After a break I went out again for some extra holes focusing mostly on this specific move/feel and jeez how the compression came back... higher, longer and straighter right away. Absolutely excellent drill thank you Steve. The unconventional notion of 'swinging the club head around the handle from the top of them swing' is a winner👍👍
Just started doing this yesterday. And it's been the revelation I been looking for. Need to work on translating it into the driver, working on the finish.
This is one of the swing drills used by Dalton McCrary in his “How to swing the golf club straight as an arrow” video series. Excellent swing drill. It has really helped my understanding of the golf swing. Glad to see other great golf instructors know this drill. Thank you instructor Pratt for making this video available. As Dalton says, “there is no delay in the golf swing.”
Great video, just tried it 7 out of 10 went dead straight, but how do you know youre clubface is square at impact with so much rotation, thank you in advance.
“You keep flipping “ was what i was told so I kept dragging the club even more - I didn’t realize it though. I was about to quit entirely after playing golf almost all my life and gave this “radical” change a try. It took some time to reprogram but this move along with the rock skip thought move has turned everything around. THANK YOU !!!
I like this drill and this tip. I’ve been watching a Japanese golf swing style ( it’s in Japanese and I have to guess everything ) that teach this hand movement but more into the impact zone. They state that adults amateurs golfers cannot accurately imitate the Pros movement since they have thousands of ours practicing since they are kids . So, new amateurs adults golfers must learn techniques that shorten the way to a more Pro’s like swing. This hand tip helps to understand what they called The right side part -of the swing . I think you’re great teaching this tips. I have improved a lot with the 7 figure -Driver technique you’ve showed in another video and I know you’re tips are for real great !
I even watched Tiger practicing that exact motion hitting pitch shots and those few teaching videos he did before his wreck he was always talking about 'throwing it'!
Jim Flick’s back to the target drill had a similar feel for me but I would get straight on the range then build a fade as round goes on. Going to give this a shot as it might be more repeatable in the pre shot versus turning around :)
Hi Steve. I've gained amazing club head speed/distance with this drill but I'm pulling all my shots left. Any tips to help me straighten my shots please. Thanks again for all your content.
I love your pizza box explanation. My issue is I sometime top my driver and hit a dribbler. Which video of yours should i study to correct this agonizing issue. Thanks…great stuff
I am working on this drill with the swoosh stick as you have demonstrated in some other vids. The white ball will not move unless you have the correct hand position on the club and execute the swing (around the pole) as you have demonstrated. Is that an accurate assessment? thanks. john in albuquerque.
Hello Steve love watching your channel and your swing could you give a tip on how to get to parallel at the top without feeling like you’re out of control? Thanks Jim S.
Gyroscopic precession… the effect of an input in rotation actually occurs 90* later in the rotation. So… one must try to release the club 90* prior to impact in the forward swing in order actually have the release happen through the ball.
Hi Steve, I finally got the idea of keeping left wrist floppy and throwing with right arm / wrist. I’ve previously always had a bit of a fade / slice. I’m now just not sure what to do with my left thumb as it seems to get in the way on follow through and feels like I’ll break it if I don’t stop the club. Particularly with the post drill. Do I need to turn the left hand over more and / or just keep it all relaxed? Cheers, your videos have transformed my understanding of the golf swing.
Thank you so much for your content. I have been working on your swing for a couple of weeks now and it is working well for me. I tend to cast from the top and early release. Maintaining the figure “7” prevents my early release, though I still tend to cast from the top. When I add in the “wrap around the pole” drill, I again tend to early release. If I actually try to throw the club from the top, I create a severe early release. For the drill, I put the pole just past my lead side. For my swing, I think of the pole as being on the outside edge of my lead leg. Should I move the pole further toward the target for both the drill and my swing, or can you suggest an alternative fix for my early release? Thanks again.
You said it Steve , Game changer. This has transformed my game from the first swing. Im already 20/30 yards longer with driver in first week of trying it .Thank you
Hi George, same for me, im a 6 hcap and have a good all round game and straight but felt i was lacking distance off the tee at around 220/230 now im 250/260 just doing this drill and throwing from the top and using Steve's set up really was a game changer for me good luck
Hi, I am releasing too early already (especially straightening my right arm too soon) and flipping the club. Won't this move just exaggerate my flipping even further?
I think I might have some hope. I played with hand path and at impact kind of going more left and upwards like the circle goes. I also tried the release. Not that I am happy with it but my release was better.
Being a senior player, I recently I hit a 3-wood into a long par 3 hole of over 200 yards. The flagstick was in the back of the green too so that made it even longer. I managed to get a good release and solid hit on the ball swinging like in this video. I hit it pure. Usually I am in front of the green somewhere, so it is a chip shot. When I went down there I couldn't find the ball at first. Then I found it and I was amazed, the ball was through the green past the flagstick. Wow. Now if I can only get this perfected with my driver. That seems to be more difficult to do. But seriously, I need the 20 yards or more. LOL.

It seems to me that he adamantly says and demonstrates that the hands do not make the motion you describe, where the right hand turns over the top of the left at/near the bottom of the swing. What he advocates is an underhand 'flip' of the right hand at the bottom of the swing in coordination with straightening the right arm. The right hand then doesn't cross over the left until the arms are at least parallel to the ground, or maybe a bit later, in the follow-through. Hi Steve. Is this the same as doing a roll release with the wrist and hands vs a square release using the body? I heard that although this gives more power because of the leverage from the wrist, it is also prone to more insonsistencies due to the timing needed to square it at impact as opposed to the square release. I know you are still shifting and turning but the rolling action itself to square the clubface at impact sounds so timing dependent..
Steve, this drill is very much a focus on snap release versus stable driven release. This indeed produces much more effortless club head speed however does require much more timing refinement. I personally prefer a snap release as it is an effortless swing however I have found it to be somewhat inconsistent. The uncocking torque has been measured scientifically repeatedly and where it starts is no longer up for debate. There is no more 'IMHO' on the matter...just facts. You need to make a paradigm shift.
@@Inmotion70 possibly you are measuring the shallowing of the club (thumbs down transition move ) ?? ...anyhow, I stopped your swing at P6 ...your right wrist is clearly in extension ...whatever, I swing my way but still watch and thumb up your vids
@@FairwayJack You're being fooled by the kinematics which is notoriously delayed compared to the forces and torques applied. It's not my measurements...it's ALL the top PhD's in the world who are measuring this both directly and through inverse dynamics equations. You are releasing from the top as well whether you like it or not.
@@Inmotion70 ... well, I respect your opinion of course ...but I can tell you that until I felt the lag tension of the shaft pressuring the thumb/forefinger V of right hand in the downswing ...I couldn't hit it over 230 ...now I'm about 270 ....but all of your other tips I agree with ...it's just this throw from the top that bedevils me
@@FairwayJack Can you understand that it is NOT my OPINION? It is scientific FACT.

YOUR VIDEO---------------->This CRAZY DRILL Works Like MAGIC! Add Distance and Accuracy Now!
totally opposite ~~~~!!! make you crazy
No the crazy drill is the same movement.
You don’t have to play great to play good and win money on the course you only have to make less mistakes then the guys you bet
Should be practicing putting and chipping.....anything inside 75 yards....... FACT
Tell that to the guy slicing it 180 into the trees on every hole. Think he cares about his double bogey putt that much?
@@Inmotion70 have a nice day
@@Inmotion70 you will usually not fix those guys with lessons...... work with the equipment ..... probably he has wrong shaft or it needs to be spined or he needs smaller grip or different kick point or different flex or any number of things...... I have seen some terrible swings play well with custom equipment..... few people are able to play with wrong equipment..... point in case most of my irons are 1.5 flat .... have a nice day
@@Inmotion70 one other thing I may mention...... my driver shaft is tipped and inserted one inch..... also my wedges shafts are tipped
@@DeeMoback On the contrary, I fix guys like that for a living. You really think a guy is slicing 180 because of equipment?
You talk way too much 2 min plus before you get to the meat of the matter.
Check out my newer videos. I think you'll like how much more condensed they are.
@@Inmotion70 I think I would have a tough time maintaining politeness when replying to SOME of the comments. You handle that well. Thankyou. Ré, moment of contact, would you agree that at that exact split second, club face sends it, club path bends it? Thank you from snowey canada
I call bullshit.
That bullshit has fixed about 8,000 slicers and added an average of 40 yards on their drives.
FFS MATE!!! ☠️☠️☠️ I can’t be the only
person that believes they just watched
an 8:40 instructional video on
how to become a “flipper!”
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no no no no no
Probably the worst golf lesson ever given.
Your wrong pal , this has transformed my game completely from the first swing , ive never hit the ball so good, higher longer and straighter straight from the off. ( 6 hcap )
@@paulbarnie2514 You’re not a 6 Paul.
@@randywatson9585 sorry Randy wrong again I'm a 55 year old 6 hcap and have tried lots of different peoples ideas and swing thoughts, for me this is a game changer. Instant added distance, bullet straight and much better ball flight. Try it mate you never know it could work for you !!
@@paulbarnie2514 Ah you forgot to do the conversion from your metric system. A 6 means you’re about a 13.2. Now THATS believable.
@@randywatson9585 ha ha thats funny my official WGH is 6.4 .i dont know many 13 handicappers shooting consistanly in the mid 70s LoL
talk about promoting an early release. terrible drill. only people this would help is scratch players or better who are already trapping the ball consistantly. very few do that. clown.
LOL the only clown here is the guy who goes against every published peer reviewed study by ALL the top golf biomechanists who have proven 100% that the release starts where I say it does. You're an ignorant curmudgeon who still believes in axioms from the 1980's. Meanwhile most slicers and short hitters hold on too long because of crappy advice from people like you.
Steve talks a lot of rubbish. But take it from arguebly the greatest golfer ever when Jack Nicklaus said you cannot release the club early enough.
Great tip. Thx.
