Great! This cleared my confusion about the dynamics of the right arm during the upward and downward golf swing motion. Will try to adapt this and hope to add more yards to my drives. Thanks Steve...Cheers!!!
Mate, this lesson is pure gold.
Best explanation of the use of the right arm I have ever heard/seen. Thanks so much.
Thanks, very clear instructions.
Very good and easy to understand instructions, Steve.
Thanks very much.
Tremendous instructional video. You have simplified a complex subject in regards to getting power and distance to the golf swing. Thank you.
Steve, I love the way you have de-emphasized the leveraging effect of the LEFT ARM. The physics of the two-lever pendulum only make real sense when the RIGHT FOREARM is defined as the primary lever in the system, and the two-lever analysis is focused on the release/impact zone. This can be shown with relentless logic, and much of the last 10 years of biomechanical research into the swing is gradually going further and further from the mark. The fact that Mike Austin was able to understand this intuitively is quite amazing. God bless you in your work, and send me an email sometime, I think we would have a great conversation.
Perfect video on the right arm movement after watching the left arm video. Love it.
Deconstructing the back swing with the focus on the right arm makes so much sense. Can't wait to put this into practice. Your explanation is clear and uncomplicated. Best one I've seen and believe me I've seen a few!
Watched this video last night and hit it further with every club today. I've now stopped quitting at impact and finishing on my left foot. Awesome!
This is a very good detailed explanation of the hands & arms move; very helpful. Thank you Steve!
Probably the best and simplest explanation of the complex golf swing. Thank you
Great lesson; one of the best trail arm action in the swing. Thanks for this.
Glad it was helpful!
TY Steve. I enjoy the detail immensely. been struggling for yrs with my slice. I believe your videos will finally help me!
Great to hear!
Hi, always a pleasure to watch your videos. Very helpfull to me. Thanks a lot
I have played golf for 20 years, I have watched hours and hours of RUclips golf coach videos. This is the best and easiest to understand I have ever seen. Phenom.
Very nice of you to say Dan. Thanks for watching.
Ive just come across Steve,,,, and he is very similar to two guys I watch, I have a bad back and I found Paul help me a lot.

FIRST MOVE IN THE DOWNSWING-TURN YOUR SWING INTO A CATAPULT!
They both helped me develop an effortless swing that compresses the ball better.
now at 62, my Srixon 785 7 iron gives me a 160m range, as he said, it's fun ,for me it's fun knowing how far my Irons go, with a baby draw even.
( when I'm tense, I push it right)
they also helped in the short game and I'm ever so close to my target of 6 H/C ( I'm 9 for now.). really, there is a lot of YT out there , nice to find someone that helps you improve. If steve can help me putt, I'd be scratch.
Great explanation. Thank you, Steve.
Great video! Very useful. Thank you very much.
Great swing tips with learning about the right arm action. I am going to try this out.
Excellent description of the mechanics of the arm movements during the backswing and downswing.
Thanks! I will try that asap and see if it works for me.
Excellent description of how the right elbow should work.
Really great lesson. 360 camera angles at different speeds are brilliant.
Steve I actually bought the tapes of Austin & Dunaway , with the snappy music , and never truly understood what they were showing me.
Hats off to you for your detailed interpretation. The videos of the right hand & left hand roles should be watched by everyone who loves this crazy game as much as you do.
Thanks Martin! Cheers!
Thanks Steve. Great info and camera angles
Yes. This is a confirmation what I knew and felt. Thank you.
Excellent tuition - I learned more about the golf swing in this video than I have in about 50 others. The way it is broken down makes it easier to take it to the range and try
Cheers Stewart!
Great overview. Thank you!
Great video. Thanks for explaining everything so well.
Cheers Steve!~
Thanks for the excellent video!
Excellent explanation. Dude can teach.
I got very detail information. Now I understand how to do. Thank you so much. I will practice a lot.
Appreciate the various views you included herein.
Thank U so much for this video. Now I start to understand how Mie Austin used his right arm with so much success.
That was awesome,, ty for sharing your knowledge!!!
Cheers Kevin!
Thank you!! That is an exceptional lesson, Steve.
You really explained that very well.
Getting that right arm back at the top 90゚angle. I know these are probably pretty basic, but most golfers have no clue until they start getting lessons like these how to swing the golf club properly. I've been practicing this video segment, and my swing and clubhead speed have dramatically improved.
Perfect explanation. Ty
Superb teaching
thanks for the vid
Great video!
Loved the camera angle from behind, now I know what I’ve been doing to lose power in my swing-great video!
I have been working on this effectively on the range but it has not transferred to my game yet. This is great stuff! Thank you Steve.
Awesome thank You
Appreciate it! Will try this at the range and give you some honest feedback
excellent teaching video now i know how to use the right arm Thanks
Good info, tips, step & slowmo video .. waiting more video for 14clubs... thumb up steve..
Great tips
Excellent. BTW that short clip of Mike Austin shows him rehearsing "holding the 7", never noticed that before
Steve,
I love your "grunts"! You are putting all your effort into your swings. Another great explanation of the right arm , but I REALLY enjoyed your right shoulder blade going back. I'm going to try that today...........
Thanks...I think!
Great tip Steve! Gonna try to get this going this week. I also noticed the weight shift in your legs and feet but you didn't talk about how that helps. Thanks!
Considering that is where all the true power comes from, watch Zen Golf and he explains it perfectly. It all starts with footwork and winds up through the body..
its great how easy and effortless look like!!
Thanks!
great video!
Amazingly great guidance not just with your explanations (broken down so well) but also with the great video captures of the swinging!!!! Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Great explaination, fantastic show motion.. it's a hot to watch in every anger...😍😍😍 Thx from London UK
Good lesson thanks
great content!
I'll try it
Thank you.
So good brother!
I teach high performance tennis and it is interesting that for power serves we also teach a 90-90-90 arm position prior to the "power loop" around the head. I started golf almost a year ago was just working on driver swing last night at my weekly lesson. I had a brief relapse where my driving fell apart and I was coincidentally coached to get my right elbow in the 90 degree position and holding it at that angle during the downswing. Suddenly, I regained my hip rotation tempo and good contact.
Found this video very helpful and will start working on it tomorrow.
Nice power!!!
I look forward to trying this out especially 90 90 90 when I come out of hibernation in the spring
Your footwork is amazing, i'm impressed, great power swing btw
Much thanks.
Wow Steve!!!! Every March or April I come back to your videos for the golf season and just really admire your swing!! I think everyone really needs to realize how lucky we are to have a teacher that has YOUR swing….as Nicklaus and Hogan and Tiger and Austin were all great….you have a great one too!!
Thanks!! 👍
@@Inmotion70 likewise!
Nice job on the video. Very helpful.
Interesting move you have with the lead foot -- lifting the heel and then planting it a good 3-4" back. Havent noticed anyone else doing that before.
Awesome explanation Made a major discovery this weekend, my right elbow extension in the downswing has been passive and incomplete, probably secondary to many years of poor pivot and hitting it fat, resulting in many topped and skulled shots. With focus on pivot and explosive right elbow extension, have finally started hitting some solid irons.
Nice scientific and helpful
I respect this swing
I'm averaging about 260 with my current driver swing which pretty much sees my right elbow close to my body the whole time. I would bet if I put this into practice I would be pushing at least 285! Simple explanation. Thank you for this!
Thanks Steve complicated even with slowmo explained well though thanks
Complicated without action in slow motion.
Thanks
Thanks again Steve, this throwing from the top has had me intimidated but this last week I've had an "aha" moment. The feeling of throwing the club behind me makes the clubhead travel right along the arc and in the slot. I've hitting it flush with a great deal more consistency and I am getting marks on my iron right in the middle of the club face, the sound of my irons are pure. I repeat myself but there is no element of what you teach which is optional. Brilliant once again!
Fantastic!
Steve, Mike Austin would be proud of you, and your swing. Lots of great golfers have used it including David Duval, Ben hogan (modified), Mike Dunaway, and more. Amazing how the basic same swing gets repackaged and handed down again and again with a slightly different explanation. Good video, enjoy watching you hit them long and straight !
Thanks Ray!
Steve, I was wondering why so many instructors and pros never bother to mention abt r. arm and now I found you. Thanks for helpful and easy to understand video. I can't wait to implement.
Cheers Red!
good stuff
Great!
Great video. No one has mentioned straightening right elbow as a speed contributor.
Great left foot action! Ol skool move!
Nicely done as usual! Do you actively flex the right wrist from its dorsiflexed position as you move through the downswing?
Thank you nice analysis - now I’m off to the driving range to try it 😀
It didn't work
Excellent content and presentation! Thanks for sharing..
Great explanation of the right elbow going pass or slightly behind the back shoulder for max extension! Contrary to what I was told, that plus the throw of the right hand, has brought a new level of excitement to my game! So darn liberating to witness my new found power! Too bad I discovered Mike Austin's technique and your concise demonstration ..so late in my life! 69 yrs young, out of golf for 3 years because of back surgery. Saving the best for last! Thank you, Steve! Mahalo!
!!! from a SEPTAgenarian. Lr rotator's gone; I spin my his, I'm on the ground. All I got is a right arm.
Just seeing this video for the first time. I will be 69 next year. 😅. Better late than never . See whether I can do it and increase ball speed. So Cal.
Definitely very instructive and enlightening. First time I've heard someone say to avoid the towel drill. I've tried it but I've always felt restricted.
I'm noticing the way your left foot pivots, allowing your hips to turn. Is that a conscious decision? I've got pretty stiff hips, so even though I'm physically strong, I feel like I've been underpowered in distance.
Steve, this video really helped me. It made me really coil (a full swing) and including using my wrists to get to the 90-90-90 position. Do you ever think of pushing your hands behind (to continue the coil of your swing) your head at the top of the swing? Thanks, Brad
I try to push farther yes.
Bonus points for showing us 4 different camera angles.
Hi Steve.. this is very enlightening. I have one question though. I've always been taught and believed that the middle two fingers on the right hand should be the only pressure points against the palm of the right hand. The thumb and forefinger should be out of the picture, just along for the ride. Could you elaborate a little on what your right hand is doing through this process. Thanks so much
First timer-great breakdown
Hi! Can you explain the action of the left foot in this particular video? Thank you!
you do a good job, when we aged, we dont turn hip and shoulder and the left arm cannot follow the right arm in the back swing. i saw your training for the 300 yard shot and you do really hard for it to improve the club head speed . wish i can do it😂
I don't know if we ever met but years ago I taught golf next to MIke at Studio City range and even had my wife take a lesson from him. I played on the Golden State tour then and am now nearly eighty. My wife is 20 years younger and we both play matches as she is quite good and won numerous tournaments over the years. Like your method of teaching Mike's way
Thanks. I have been watching your videos the past couple of months and slowly modifying my swing to incorporate your points. When I do so I immediately get another 20-30 yards carry, but I am fighting inconsistency.
Inconsistent how?
@@Inmotion70 It takes a lot of repetition to create new muscle memory, so on one swing I get it pretty much right and see a jump in carry and next swing I fall back into my old habits. The triple 90* angles and the adduction of the shoulder blades is primarily what I am working on. One of my faults is to not properly bend my right wrist back (so one can place a tray on it) and when I do that I general slice the ball. I am right handed.
@@JDSFLA Lots of practice with just the right arm and no ball.
@@Inmotion70 Thank you. I will try that.
It's a great balance. Explain something about feet position and moviment.
I gotta try the flying rt elbow
tried it. Works Great. Thanks! Note: grip and ball placement still critical.
Just stumbled onto your videos and wow does your advice ever help! I'm a senior and was pretty happy with anything that rolled out over 200 yds, and now I can routinely carry just over 200 yds...205-ish, and I honestly believe there's more in the bag if I work on your methods. I'll gladly come for a lesson if I'm in that part of the world, (I sometimes am...). Thank you!
I just started using the flying elbow technique recently. It feels totally natural to me, but seems to be discouraged by most trainers. So often I'm told to keep my elbows together as if holding a ball between them throughout the swing. I think this is bad advice. Your description of the 90 90 90 rule coincides with my flying elbow, show my letting the elbow fly and then bringing it back in at the start of the downswing, I've gotten both Club head speed and Club shallowing in one move. You're the first I've seen to teach a method which works exceptionally well for me. Thank you.
Got a ton of good information out of the later portion of your video; your slow motion swing. Just watching that might help me, TY
Glad it helped!
You have great footwork
Performance Video! Plus!
That is some of the best ankle mobility I’ve seen since the late 90’s.
Lightbulb stuff 😎
