Great video and best explanation about the angle of attack I've seen on RUclips. I've had the wrong idea about the angle of attack all these years of playing until I saw this video. I adjusted my swing to be more "sweepy" like Steve said, and it improved my contact greatly. My smash factor with the 7-iron is consistently in the 1.30s range, picked up a couple MPH of clubhead speed, and my angle of attack is down (rather than hitting a few thin ones occasionally) while trying these tips at the range. Also, contact on the iron seems to be more consistent in the sweet spot.😊
FINALLY! I taught myself many years ago and developed this exact swing by chance (and could easily hit my driver more than 300 yards). Then I took about 10 years away from golf. When I came back three years ago, I watched hours and hours of RUclips videos and they ALWAYS talk about "hitting down on the ball," which I tried to follow and I've sucked ever since. I cannot thank you enough Mr. Pratt and I can't wait to go back to my old swing.
99% of all RUclips golf is just waffle and dog shit. The majority 9f RUclips coaches contradict themselves with every video Hitting down on the ball, shallowing the club, shaft lean all a load of absolute bollocks
Steve, I love the feel of the late speed. Finally getting my body to finish. My question is: when you do it in slow motion you always turn your body with your right arm behind. Almost 180 degrees at the start..... 5:54 in the video. Is this the feeling I want to have when actually hitting a ball? It feels very powerful and body driven but is it getting your arms “stuck” behind you? Love your videos and I’ve never been able to hit irons very well, except on a par 3 less than 140 yards. I had searched “how to finish the golf swing “ and came up with nothing pertinent. Then today you popped up and not only answer my finishing question but even better the idea of “sweeping the ball” not chopping down. I play tomorrow and can’t wait to put this into my swing. I don’t have a speed whoosh so for the last 2 hours I’ve been using an alignment stick and 7 iron to ingrain the feel. Thanks again for your incredible insights.
If you pause his swing at the top and the very start of the video and step through frame by frame using the period key on your keyboard, you can see that impact position is very different from 5:54. He doesn't have his arm nearly that far behind him and he isn't turned nearly that much open.
@@jasonkelley6185 Never knew the period key gave frame by frame. Thanks If you do it when he's demonstrating with the speed whoosh he does have his arm a bit behind. None the less I played the day after watching this trying to use the imagery AND leaving my hands a bit behind and had a great day of ball striking with more distance and accuracy.
This seems to be working well. Is the principal somewhat the same for driver, irons, hybrids and even pitches and chips? Also, I was pulling the ball to the right a bit, but when i tried thinking of swinging to second base through the ball then to third base it resulted in much straighter shots. I guess that would be obvious. Anyway, thank you so much for this video.
Steve I’m confused. This lesson seems diametrically opposed to your other videos where you advocate losing lag early and wrapping around the pole. Which is it?
It's both. And yes I understand your concern. The pole wrap is an isolation drill for wrists and elbows. Once you add the body, the response ends up later even though the stimulus to wrap the pole starts way back.
Great video, great content, great feel. The titles are a little bit of clickbaity so i never know what i'm getting into, but nontheless great explanation
Steve how does this square with the other video days ago where you say most golfers are not releasing their wrists early enough in the downswing and you recommended the drill to release around the upright pole. Here it seems you are releasing late to hit the pinata. thanks this is important to me.
You could be steep and then this exit would be severely out to in. But we want to come down into a more shallow inside slot halfway down and then mirror it on the way out.
Best teaching I’ve ever heard and seen. It immediately transformed my iron swing!

Hit down to go up is a myth!
The sound of you hitting the chippy shots at the end was phenomenal. Great video.
Just found you the other day Steve. Really enjoy your information and techniques. They definitely work 👍

This is the GREATEST single explanation for this topic I have ever seen.
I'm glad you think so.
Thank you for the new approach on hitting my irons! I’m headed to the range shortly! I’ll try it out! I really do need the help!
Get your body moving!
Youre a great teacher! Thanks much.
You're very welcome!
i like it ..can't wait to try it ty..
Love your style and instructions.
does this still utilize the 'release your wrists from the top' idea?

I meant pulling left.
Amazing -thank you, sir!
I have Titleist t400 irons and they are delofted as per them so I don’t need to go forward than the ball
I seem to do my best when I feel a hook approach to the ball . And a slice exit
Yes I like this image.
This is the exact drill I have been waiting so long to see. Thank you!
No problem!
Dude, thank you for this, I bet this helps me because I am a very visual person.
Thank you, sir. Good luck with your RUclips journey.
I have a couple great fails on video....should I post them?
This is a little confusing. Shouldn’t the butt end of the club slow down to let the right arm pass? Please explain

That is reality. This is perception. This gets golfers bodies moving so the release from the top doesn't become a cast.
Started practicing this and it seems fantastic. Thanks.
Wait I thought we were releasing early around the pole 🧐
This seems to conflict with your release drills with a pole.
They go together. This one is for people who release around the pole but don't move the body.
Could cut down on some of the explanation. About 3 to 4 minutes too long.
Wouldn't you be steep here?
You could be steep and then this exit would be severely out to in. But we want to come down into a more shallow inside slot halfway down and then mirror it on the way out.
