That Gemstone Warpaint color is just so good. I would highly recommend the whole set, there are a bunch of great other colored metallic paints in it too!
I enjoy your videos because I like how you break down your color schemes and the thought process that went into them. A bit of input, if I might; when I paint a pale skin tone, I'm inclined to lay down a really light gray base coat first (like, say, Slaanesh Grey since you use Citadel), and then layer up from there with my lighter flesh tones and whatever shades I'm using. Nice work, Miss Angela!
I have to say, it's great seeing your evolution as a painter, trying out new paints and techniques, and the quality of the paintjobs progressing along. Did great justice to fantastic sculpts!
@@HobbyNight Olivia Voldaren is both an INCREDIBLE Legendary as well as having radical art! I'm also a fan of Bloodline Keeper, Stromkirk Captain... Too many great cards!
I just picked up the Army Painter color metallics set myself and was thinking of trying them out on Crimson Court, so this video was really helpful to see a preview. Thanks for a great rundown!
It's a super rad color and it came as part of an Army Painter Metallic colors set with a bunch of other colors to pick from. If you are interested here's a link: amzn.to/3eMGHH5
Excellent job on the model, as always Angela! The way you incorporate the use of Contrast colors with traditional paints really gives inspiration that results as good as yours can be achieved. Also, looking fit and lovely, the outfits in the latest videos have been working for thumbnails and sidebar explanations, zero complaints!
Oh boy, I finished painting mine yesterday and wish now that I had waited for your tutorial :( I`d never have thought to do the armour that way but it looks lovely!
Nice work, I would not have thought to achieve this outcome the way you did. Extra thumbs up for having a base that contrast both in colour and tone to the miniature to make it really pop. My only suggestion is to perhaps add some highlights to the cloak/red leather to show a texture difference to the metal. Thin lines close together or cross hatches in like an evil suns scarlet would make it look more like a textile or natural sunbstance. And maybe a light chipping on strategic places on the armour helps it appear to be different to the cloak. It may be the camera that makes them seem very similar though. Keep it coming!
Hallo Hobby_Night, Lol, your enthusiastic love of vampires is over the top! Really well done painting report. It was fun to watch. Good job on keeping is more feral features prominent. It wouls be easy to lose them with everything else this model has going on. Cheers!
Thank you! I only wish I had emphasized his nails a bit more, maybe a light wash of the Baslicanum Grey to dark them just a bit and make the feral nature stand out a bit more! XD I hope I always remains over the top about them! They are just so cooooool!💜🖤💜🖤
I've been o tempted for a while now to buy these guys. I'm not too into vampires, but their armor and details remind me of Legacy of Kain mixed with Bram Stoker's Dracula. Plus, with them having stats for Warcry as well, it makes them even more useful. He turned out really good. When/if I go to paint them I'll be picking up that gem stone paint from Army Painter. Was also thinking of using Vallejo Model air metallic black for the models with the black armor. Used it for Traitor Guard and Death Corps and it works great. Really dulls down with a nice wash as well.
You did an exceptionally good job. When I first saw the cherry red mixed with the gold he looked an awful lot like Iron Man but when you put over Basilicanum Gray it definitely gave it an overall look that had a different feel to it. I really love how this turned out and I'm glad to see you're branching out into other colors from other paint makers. 😊
Metallic colors have such a cringe ugly stage in my opinion so I don't blame you for reacting that way lol. It's why I avoided using them for so long. 😆
The only thing I would do is use some really thin green wash/ink and add a few spots to the fallen statue. It makes surprisingly realistic moss spots. The kind that just barely stain the marble. I also used a pencil with crazy hard lead (7H to 9H) to add veining and cracking to the statue and it turned out better than i could have hoped. Just some ideas.
It's like that one time iron man went goth!! Lmao. I have no idea why, but this pose seems to be the "vampire pose". Apparently vampires like to grimace at their palms because this is at least the 4th vamp I've painted in this stance. The 2nd this month. I just finished painting vlad von carstein and the only real difference is that he is staring at his right hand rather than the left. Lol. Awesome video!
Another fun way to weather the gold is to put a little Drackenhoff Nightshade (blue wash) over the gold. It ages it and makes it look antique and weathered. Try it with the darker gold from GW too. Thats what I used on my Vampires :P
You did a great job painting him. my only suggestion that would help your model would be to add 'ARDCOAT' Technical paint from citadel to his vial of blood to make that look like its in glass. to give it a different element to the model that would make it stand out from the rest of his equipment. I cant wait to see these models in person!
Wow this look really great and gives me some ideas, I do love vampires as well unfortunately my local store ran out of the latest box pretty quickly. I guess I'll have to wait/ I hate waiting :) Now, I still haven't had much luck with contrasts, not really liking them (others seem to go well with them sigh) but I guess its more trial and error than anything else. Did I miss it but can you post your colors and paint in a list?
I have! My worry with doing that on this project was how I would darken the color down enough to what I was wanting without loosing too much of the shine of the silver beneath. And I wanted a deep rich dark red color for the armor. Contrast paint as a more matte finish than traditional acrylic paints and when layered they can completely mute even a metallic paint down enough that it becomes totally obscured (I did this accidently once on a different miniature) and I was worried I risked that here if I had done it that way.
thanks for this video. I'm getting back into painting again after a long hiatus and have lots of questions. My first would be this: When you washed the ivory bust lying on the ground it seemed like you used a really thick coat and just left it. Did you wipe it off off-camera or do they "evaporate" (or whatever the technical term is). Anyway, I will keep watching to learn more.
I did use a really thick coat! The only thing that I did off camera on the bust was continue to move the paint around until I had an even coating across its whole surface which did require additional paint. I have absolutely had to blot up excess paint off of a model before though, just not in this particular instance.
@@HobbyNight thanks for the quick reply. :-) I think I need to pretend that I've never painted before and start from scratch. There is just so much content out there, it's hard to decide what method to use. Do you have recommendations for good videos to watch to get me started? (Maybe you have your own "newbie painter" videos? lol) I will check your other videos, in any event.
They are totally different types of paint so it's kind of hard to compare them. Gemstone is a metallic red paint and Spiritstone Red is a technical paint so I love both for different reasons. And would use them for different reasons.
well, very nice job combining red and the ''yellow'' of the gold to make his armor....but i would paint his skin with rakarth flesh and then wash him with diluted shade of a purple tone...very diluted , and then apply rakarth flesh and some pallid wych flesh ....and on the red armor there are some bolts or rivets that makes one plate join the one underneath it, so i would pick those up with retributor armor or balthasar gold ...and on the edges of the red plates i would go at least one step further and go one to two tones of brighter red to make it pop a bit more...i loved his cloak black and red....i loved the statue and his eyes were amazingly correct for a vampire...
In curious, why do you use a basilicanum Grey wash on the steel. I use nuln oil and it seems easier than watering down basilicanum. Is there something that makes basilicanum look better?
Nuln Oil seems to always have a glossy finish regardless of whether or not I am using the Glossy version or not and I personally do not like how shiny metallic paint is right out of the pot/bottle, so I don't like to wash them in something that is going to enhance that shininess. Where as Contrast paint has a matte finish so it reduces the shine without removing it. 😊
@@HobbyNight ah, I like the shine of metallics so I’ll be sticking to nuln oil. Thanks for letting me know. Keep up the fantastic work, looking forward for more
Honestly I found the "fanservice" rather cringe. As for the paintjob all the metallic paint flecks in the red armor just looked really bad to me, it helped a bit that you did a wash over it but not enough for it to be something i would ever be happy trying to do myself. You also seem to have a hard time with flesh which is something i also have problems with so I wish you luck getting better with it.
