Angela, you did an excellent job ! Love the Night Lords color inspiration on that model, the dark blue looks really nice ! Also, I agree with you, she'll would make a great character/antagonist on a DnD game. Actually, the whole set could be like an evil antagonist group. That gives me an idea for my current campaign ! That and the new Vampire kit they announced last month ! So many ideas, so little time... Great job again and have a great week !
She came out awesome. love the contrasts you used. It's definitely there, but with the shades and highlighting, it's a smooth transfer from one to the other. Myself, I currently work with 1/64th scale, but I am thinking of getting back D&D with a Rogue, so taking much of what I am seeing here and will apply that to the first mini's I get.
I also decided to paint her hair purple, but I painted it black and then highlighted it with purple, then shaded it with the old reliable Nuln Oil. My idea was to make it look like her hair was a very dark purple, so it looked black and only where the light hit the most is where it looked purple.
I am one of those people that believes if we don't go outside our comfort zones then we can never grow our skills beyond a certain threshold. And then stagnation occurs. So even though sometimes it really really stresses me out to do so, I make myself go beyond what I think I am currently capable of.
She came out super cool. I've been trying to decide on a color scheme for this warband myself, so this definitely puts dark blue armor on the list of possibilities. One suggestion, when you're edge highlighting try thinning your paint less. It looked really runny, which means it's hard to actually get it to stay where you put it, which is the whole point of edge highlighting. If you thin it less (and perhaps use a brush with a better point) I think you'll have more luck with the technique.
Makes sense, I've never really tired edge highlighting before and I am already really terrible about my water to paint ratios when it comes to normal acrylic paints. It's something I definitely need to practice more. : )
i believe she turn out great....the color pattern is excellent, blue and red and very imaginative to mix retributor and silver , that metallic color was wow....one thing to suggest for future attempts on highlighting the leather on her knee and on that shield...the paint has to be a lot thicker but fluid at the same time...and you have to use one or two paintbrush numbers down , (thinner) so that the highlights are like pencil accurate ...you could have used Kantor blue to fix the shield , just scrape the thick line of the highlight to a much thinner line..and ....you could have used Serafim sepia as a wash to the metallics ..which is not as red as the reikland...i dont know how much you push the highlights to consider them done from your perspective , but after the wash you can use runefang steel and other silvers like that to push some spots a bit further..those are small things and are very dependent on the time you want to spend on the mini of course ..but i would like to see you actually spend that time because its obvious that you can paint very well and i think that if you spend 1 to 2 hours more, you are going to be amazed by yourself and then by the result of the mini ....love your work ., cant wait to see next Monday's video
Looks great :) I really like the way you deep dive into your painting process and why you did things the way you did! It's nice to get that thought process explained so nicely.
Awesome, I am glad you enjoyed it. I think understanding why someone is using a color or technique in a particular way is very helpful. I like to hope it inspires people to try new or different things more often while they are painting. Thanks for watching!
I sense a new chaos lord for my for my AoS army! Love that paintjob has me thinking she might look good in green plate too to match my maggotkin and get her on the table even more.
Very nice work :) liking the Zenithal highlights technique and the colour palette and much kudos for trying edge highlighting, an absolute pain to do. Suggest you use a less watered down paint and try to use the edge of the brush. My edge highlights are hit and miss honestly and they end up thin and subtle which I like but does not come through in pictures. Very much enjoyed the video and convinced me to get the set and some Cryptek Armourshade :)
Thank you! Hahaha, yea right now it really does feel like such a pain to have to do...edge highlighting, but I am hoping with practice maybe it will get easier. And if it doesn't, I can always just not to do it anymore! XD
Khagra looks great, awesome job. The warhammer underworlds minis looks awesome, but I don't think I'd ever play the game although I'd totally use them in other games though. Rakarth Flesh is one of my go to paints. I generally use it as the basis for all pale and necrotic flesh. Its even the base layer of the armour for my Death Guard.
Thank you! I buy them mostly to use them for other things too. And just to have a variety of different aesthetics of miniatures to paint in between bigger projects.
Great video as always. I love how you let us in on your thoughts and reasons for the paint colour and techniques on your minis. The final gold effect was awesome. 😁🙌🏻
BTW, get Alaitoc blue for edge highlighting Navy/Dark blues. If not, pick up Teclis. For Alaitoc blue I recommend getting Hoeth Blue for the second highlight (which goes to sharper/extreme edges) and for Teclis, get Lothern blue. I use these paints for highlighting the Kantor blue of my Crimson Fists, either one of these pairs will do.
She turned out fantastic! I also like cryptek armor shade over metallics. I also like it over top of Typhus Corrosion for a grungy, grimy, grease look. I used it on my Ghasnghkull and liked the overall effect. What paint do you use on your bases? I used Abaddon black or Steel Legion drab but saw you had a tube of something in a previous video.
Oh nice, I will have to try that, combining Cryptek with Typhus Corrosion. Sounds like a nice combo. I rim my bases using Carbon Black from Golden Acrylics!
Love these sculpts! I try to focus on 40k but I must say AOS, Warcry and Underworlds are consistently putting out amazing minis that make me drool and want to reach out for my wallet XD Also your zenithal drybrush is more or less exactly how I paint my army! I love the way it looks and sketch styles and undershading in general
I only really play 40k but man I really like picking up the Underworld kits for just fun things to paint. Black Stone Fortress is great for that too when I want to stick more to the scifi theme. Nice! It's a great technique, I am wanting to play with it a bit more so that I can pull off an even greater effect. : )
@@HobbyNight Totally agree with you, they do seem like amazing minis if only for the display shelf and good time painting something else than a huge army! Definitely something I will look at more seriously when I have more display/storage space >
That's always the issue right...where do we keep them all? I had to recently re-organize my display space to better accommodate all the minis I've painted in 2020... I suppose there are worse problems to have 😅
The gold/silver mix for the armor edges is a great idea and looks really good on her--don't mind if I yoink that color idea for future use on my part! That ugly stage you reference happens to *every single minature* I paint, I can relate. I'm none too interested in Contrast paints, honestly, but this scheme still ended up looking great nonetheless--good work! Constructive criticism; you don't want your paint quite so thin for edge highlighting; ideally it should be a bit thicker so it will go where you want it to go and stay there (the edges of what you're painting).
Yep, I'm notoriously bad about judging how much water my Base and Layer paints need. XD It's a minor part of why I stick with Contrast, I grok how it works more.
@@HobbyNight True; every paint is a bit different, and consistency can vary. After all the time I've been painting, I still boof that up all the time, rest assured!
Well, I might suggest playing a cooperative game with her if she was interested. Co-op games are a great way to introduce someone into gaming imo and they tend to be miniature heavy which could lead to you guys painting them together for your games! 💜💜💜
@@HobbyNight I've just bought an Iwata HP-CS Airbrush, and have a metric ton of Slaves to Darkness to paint so going to stick to silver, red and browns! Something easy to learn the Airbrush with.
I agree! I am still figuring out my paint to water ratios when I am using base and layer paints. I've always been bad about that, but that's what practice is for!
I really enjoyed this video's format and look. One of my favorite things about how you paint is a bit of a break from normal color schemes. Your metallic mix looks really nice, had you considered canoptek alloy?
Hey just curious if this is still a zenithal highlight since it's not realy emulating light from above. Essentially it's highlighting everything but the recesses. A characteristic of a normal zenithal highlight is that you have a very light miniature from one angle (light source from above) and a very dark miniature from the opposite angle.
Angela, you did an excellent job ! Love the Night Lords color inspiration on that model, the dark blue looks really nice ! Nice color scheme, your figure turned out well.

Thx for the video It's great to see you trying new technics
I have to start somewhere! Thank you for watching!
That cloak is beautiful! Love how that red and grey work together to make it stand out.
Thanks! The cloak and the way the gold turned out are my favorite parts of the miniature. 😊
I kind of enjoyed the store walkthrough. Looks like a nice open layout and the glass shelves were nice.
Games of Berkeley has a super open layout. It's a huge space with tall ceiling. Plus it is filled to the brim with all sorts of games!

Glad you went beyond your comfort zone and did the highlights. 10x better than your prior contrast only work. Liked. Subscribed. Keep up the progress!

Lately with the AoS side of things, GW has been amazing with their sculpts. They’re also great to use in D&D!
They really have been doing an amazing job on their AoS sculpts. And I agree 100%! I love using them in my dnd games. : )
Awesome paintjob!

Very interesting technique... it´s actually brilliant using the drybrushing to create "preset" highlights. I will have to try thast myself. Good idea!

Canon M50 with a Macro lens + converter for filming the painting portions and a Canon 15MM-45MM lens for the facecam stuff.
