That NMM effect is gorgeous! Gonna keep this one around for when I get my hands on Azrael. (Went with a TMM effect on my Lion, glazing from a blue steel at the bottom to a bright silver at the tip.)
NMM, one of those mini painting techniques that scares the piss out of me. You, and many others make it look so easy, but still a wealth of knowledge, and one day I will finally make it look...decent. Great job Juan!
Thank you so much. Hope all is going well with the little one too. Anyway will strt practicing this as seems better than many of the actual metal paints that seem so random on coverage and impact.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Seriously though, just subscribed to your patreon. so much great stuff thats really helped up my mini game. almost done painting my Dante using your method, thank you again!
thank you for this, i just started painting minis and im finding just straight metallic paint with nuln oil really ugly looking and not very realistic, this really helps
You need the right ingredients to make that dirty paintwater for your blendings a magic elixir. Jokes aside, if you find it hard to find the places you want to highlight, you can look around where other artists put their highlights on the same miniature and copy it until it comes natural for you. On the other end, traditional art and even comic books are a nice resource as well to understand how NMM can work. When you understand where highlights belong, it is all just a high contrast play like Juan showed in the video. The contrast is even more important than the blending to sell the effect. Swords are a good place to start, as the geometry is easier than an intricate armor for example
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures that's good to know, with such a well painted mini I didn't know if you'd do anything or should you do anything to the bottom side haha, thanks for you're reply, new subscriber :)
I may have to try this technique on my necrons. Seems like an odd army to try this with but they have enough bladed weapons that it would look good cohesively. Also Im beginning to despise the glowing power blades that so many have done to their wepaons. I want something different that will be unique and match more to the aesthetic of my army
I say it in the video, just water, but don't feel bad if you need to use medium. No shame in that. Btw, if I ever any kind of medium it's always clearly noted in the screen
Awesome tutorial and a beautiful job overall. One question I have is this just a "test piece" or simply for tutorials? The reason I ask is that most people do not mix NMM with TMM.

I like how you make it look so simple, and then there’s this point you reach where I’m like ’Damn! That actually looks metallic!’
Well done!
Thanks mate 😘
Another fantastic video! You make everything so simple to follow. Im REALLY excited to see how you did that cape ;)
Thanks, sadly there won't be a video on that specifically but on oil work in general
What a treat, and just in time, too; I'm about to tackle some Eldar Shining Spears. Gracias, señor!
A ti guapetón 😘
JH, your models are amazing. I'm a self-taught mini painter, so videos like this are really helpful, even if I don't have anywhere near your talent. 😅
Talent is overrated, hard work and dedication is what makes you good at anything

Nice, I'm sure he looks lovely
Gorgeous work, cant wait to try this out on my Ezekiel, much love from Australia!
Thanks! Take care of the drop bears!
That looks brilliant, and I'm going to try this on my models. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thank you for watching
Great tutorial, Juan! I'm going to try to rip this off almost exactly for my Lion.
Awesome

@paullarkinsphoto I'm actually recording one

Fantástico tutorial. Voy a lanzarme con el NMM. 🙏🏼 gracias

I watched the video and I still don't understand how you can achieve this effect.
Lol, it's MAGIC

Exactly, like I've shown here the blends are not really important, what is important is the quick shift in contrast. Contrast is king
@@SeppukoGaming Magic is a better explaination ;)
@@maximem.ste-marie3578 true, I once also had the feeling that magic is a concept that's easier to grasp than NMM 🤣

Very nice 👍🏻

I would love to see how you tackle the underside of the blade as there's no light hitting it
I left it basically dark, you can't even see it unless you REALLY try. I think I did a couple of lazy highlights

@juanhildago
What is the different between Heavy Glaze and Glaze?
The amount of pigment
You ever experimented with tempera paint?
May I know the different between "heavy glaze" and "glaze"? have more water than "glaze" or? thank you.
i want to try to create this effect myself ! if one wants to create similar effect using vallejo what colors would you recomend instead ?
Спасибо за видео!
Thanks for watching Mikhail!
Many thanks for this great tutorial! Is it ok to start with a dark grey primer instead of black for this?
Of course! Dark grey is fine
Incredible! Glad I watched even though I’m definitely not at the Advanced level of NMM. Does anyone know what Juan uses to thin his glazes?
I say it in the video, just water, but don't feel bad if you need to use medium. No shame in that.
Btw, if I ever any kind of medium it's always clearly noted in the screen
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thanks, will pay attention next time 😂
Awesome tutorial and a beautiful job overall.
One question I have is this just a "test piece" or simply for tutorials? The reason I ask is that most people do not mix NMM with TMM.
This is how he will be forever. In fact I basically copied what the EM team did for the boxart, metallics for everything but the sword
Having a really tough time with the glaze consistency. Any tips?
I have a video explaining how to glaze, check it out!
Maybe is a bad question but how you pant the nmm on the dawn side of the sword if the light is not produccing the simulation of metal
I think I basically left it black, maybe did a very light highlight but you can't really see it so what's the point?
