Hi Cliff this is a great mower. Has everything i like in a mower. His son takes care of it and it will serve him well. You done a nice service and clean up as usual. All the best Tony.
Hello Tony great hearing from you! His son took it today and now its in the western part of our state since his Dad was no longer using it, should last another 10 or more years very well made. Since it was going to be that far away just felt best in replacing everything I will reuse that spark plug and air filter in some future junk lawn mower find! You take care over there Tony!
My JS35 was stalling, low power, so I did the air filter and pre-filter cleaning part, and sprayed carb cleaner in the hole when I had the filter off, let it sit for a few minutes, re-assembled, and it's good as new. Thanks for the quick directions.
Hi Cliff, that's a really nice John Deere! One of the last push mowers they made. I think AYP makes them for John Deere now. I bet it'll last another 20 years if he takes care of it. I hope you're having a great weekend!
FWIW, my research has turned up that that mower was made by Briggs several years after it bought Murray out of bankruptcy. As cool as the JD green is, that mower's lineage is Murray. Doesn't mean it's not a good mower, just that it was subcontracted, not made in a Deere plant. Briggs/Murray also built similar Snapper and Brute mowers, the latter for Walmart. I have a curb picked JS46 which is the most expensive Murray/Deere made about the same time as the JS35. Similar features, but the JS46 has a Briggs 8.75 OHV engine. Deere finally exited the walk behind market in 2012.
Hello Franco great hearing from you! It is a shame they quit making these really nice lawn mowers they were very unique. The few that I had gotten you will know very quickly why they painted them green, the color of money! If you ever needed a cable/belt or wheel you had to get the actual John Deere Part # and they were expensive! .
I like the Briggs Quantum engines with the wind vane choke. Excellent design that is very simple and reliable. If the owner is a knuckhead, and breaks it, the spring is about $3 to replace. The new thermostatic operating chokes on the OHV (brand doesn't matter) are less reliable and much more expensive to replace. I've seen the new thermostatic chokes go bad after 2-3 years on both Kohler and Briggs.
I have the exact same mower and for the life of me can't get it to stay running and now it won't even start. Before it quit starting it was over revving, so bad the whole motor was vibrating.
Hello Stephen! Oh yes very nice lawn mower he gave this to his son since he was not using it and its now in the western part of our state. They paint them they say green because of the color of money! You will pay dearly as well if you need a cable/belt or wheel for a John Deere very few if any aftermarket parts!
Hi Jack, its the factory side chute that came with this John Deere he bought it new and also has the grass catcher and that chute as well. And he kept all the manuals with this mower! Its a shame they no longer make these really well made self propelled type lawn mowers.

Great lawn mower. I had a very similar model, the JS26, and it was a powerful machine.

I have one just like it. It doesn’t start with the key. I replaced the battery but won’t crank. Any ideas? Thank you
