We need a lawn art tour
LOL!!!
I only use caster wheel mowers on my yard. Lots of curves and it's easier to maneuver. My first was a Yard Machines and my newest is a Cub Cadet, essentially an update with a yellow paint job.
nice! they do take the turns well
I have a slightly different variant to this mower. I have the JS45 so it has more of a personal pace style handle which is really comfortable. It has ball bearings on the front casters so it makes for really nice moving around. Lots of power from this engine as well. I love the maneuverability of this mower around trees and other obstacles. Makes mowing easy. I’m in northern IL and all the leaves fell of the trees so my mower is gonna have the bag on. It does a good job with this high vacuum design. All I need for mine is a new ignition coil because it’s doesn’t start hot. So I have to clamp the break cable so I don’t turn off the mower while bagging. This mower is similar to the snappers high vacuum design I’ve noticed.
nice and the JS45 is a fantastic mower.
The jar is absolutely the way to go and if possible a smaller one where it may float or move around and with a cap installed.
good idea
The Gravely I had with the 40 inch Kidney mower had that same setup on the front wheels with no spindle lock BUT the mower had steering brakes and the planetary drive and instant reverse was no problem and with the discharge in the rear of the deck you could trim on both sides which was super handy and the front wheels were probably two feet apart so no problem there. As for the battery zero turn I mowed and mulched leaves at least eight times with it and the battery usage meter just went down one bar each time and the leaves were mulched so fine WITH the side discharge open I never blew or raked them. I have the heater set up under the mower on a good thermostat set at 40 degrees and a tarp fitting loosely over it and no problems yet. The Stihl battery is in the closet along with the Kobalt and chargers. I'll get the zero turn out this winter and run it around some but so far, so good. Very little leaves on the yard. Happy weekend and Blessings!
wow sounds like you've got a great setup!
I wore a perfectly good phone out trying to get a straight answer from MTD and Craftsman but nobody outside the MTD tecs even has a clue about that rig and THEY can't or won't tell you anything. I STILL don't know where the batteries are in the mower and that the blankets or holders powered by 110 line current with their own thermostats for cold weather specifically are NOT recommended to keep the mower batteries from freezing and shortening their life. Planned obsolesce? Quite possible but not in THIS household. The heater, tarp and REAL thermostat is my answer to that problem; $100 and change. WAY too much spent on buying that mower to waste because they made something they don't know anything about yet and won't share what they DO know. It's a SUPER machine but could be managed a lot better. If it dies it'll not be because it was abused and lot looked after. Blessings!@@HomeGaragechannel
About time you had a win. Relieved it's gone now.
I know right. Luckily it wasn't a tough one to fix
Neighbor gave me a non runnig and the self propelled not working John Deere SB14. Got it running and driving. What a mower for being over 30 years old.
yes that model you got is a good one for sure!
In-jar is better, in my opinion. It's better for the cleaning machine too as its all contained. The jar doesnt hinder the vibrations, it simply complies with that resonance and allows it to reach the part to be cleaned.
my thoughts too.
Hey bro what's up? This unique John Deere mower made another appearance on your channel here. I must say bro when I saw the carburetor I got scared. It looked absolutely horrible but a little elbow grease and patience made it work again.
yes sir, this is probably the last video I do on it, because I'm just waiting for spring to sell it. Shame tho, I kind of like it.
@@HomeGaragechannel me too, I like it also! For a mower with an old school vibe to it makes me like it even more bro.
That is one of the coolest push mowers I’ve ever seen whoever gets that is going to buy something cool my yard is much to big for that and I live in Middleburg Florida I’ve got 2 acres so that mower is much too small but it’s cool as can be hopefully whoever gets it will take very good care of it
agreed a larger rider or zero turn would be better for your yard.
Jeez Louis that thing looks like it's shaking apart when running!
it is a bit shaky but not terrible
I have no problem buying a lawnmower such as the one in your video. Like a lot of things it just takes time to get used to it.
agreed
So I agree with you about replacing the needle seat but I have found a way that work for me….get that seat installer tool, use an air brush cleaning brush and clean out the hole for the seat really well, then when installing the seat spray the hole and the new seat with WD-40/pb blaster. I’ve been really successful using that method.
wow thank you for the tip!
@@HomeGaragechannel you’ve taught me a lot and I thank you for that. Words cannot express my gratitude so I hope my tip helps save you some money.
I didn't know John Deere made a mower like this. I'd buy one though, nothing runs like a Deere! 👍
You got that right!
Good job as usual !
thank you!
I have this exact model...ran great for years but now won't start...I'll be looking at mine and try the same steps as you...thanks
Good luck!
@@HomeGaragechannelthank you
no problem
04:31, i don't know yet if there are any issues with this, but i have used a pressure washer to clean off the dirt from the outside, i mainly did that becausr i had the pressure washer out at the time, it seemed to work well though
a good pressure washer might be a bit too much for equipment to take. Nothing wrong but you do have to be extra careful versus a low pressure system
That carb looked so dorty yet corroded i thought no matter how clean it would be - its not gonna work regarless, it was a nice surprise.
Interesting wheel design though, if area you mow has lots of turns and curves, like, lots if trees or bushes, tiny zero turn should be like a remedy.
agreed, just glad it worked out this time
Wow some kinda dirty nice save 👍
Yes it was
Good job
thanks!
I guess a mower's a mower I would take no matter what it looks like Thank you for the video
I hear that
Can you make a video of all of the equipment you have?
Nice job as usual! Sounds like it might have a slightly bent crank though, looks kinda shaky.
yes it's not perfect for sure, but I'm sure it had a rough life. Thank you!
On an application like this, such as a high priced John Deere, would you buy oem or aftermarket carbueratora
agreed
To which? Oem? Also mechanic to mechanic I hope you wear gloves when working with any sort of carburetor cleaner
just bought a nice looking js 45 locally for 80 dollars. thinking of eliminating the self propelled as i dont mind not having it.
your choice
is it possible to take an engine on a broken frame or deck and use it another method...go cart...log splitter.....if a mower is not worth repairing do you keep parts or whole engine
yes it can however it would be advisable to make sure that the shaft orientation was ideal for the machine you're putting it on. Most go cars I've seen need a horizontal shaft engine.
To answer that... I like weird, so I'd grab it. I'm in Australia, so we don't even see stuff like this.
I like your reasoning
Hey I am still interested in this mower if you haven’t already sold it
I'll let you know
@@HomeGaragechannel ok just let me know
Yes this mower (The Green Goblin) is weird, but I would definitely consider purchasing it because it seems very robust. I'd like to commend you for saving so many "trashed" mowers from going into landfill. It is not just educational watching your detailed videos but gives me much satisfaction each time another mower is "rebirthed". Keep up the great content - we loved watching you in Australia!
thanks I appreciate that!
personally i would not mine test driving one of those units and they look like they are well build and designed etc.
to be honest, it's quite nice
This was great. However I'm not a fan of these style of mower decks just seems it could be issue if one caster were to break down or cable being worn out but hey someone will buy it. For me plain jane FWD mower decks are better to handle. Overall great video.
agreed
The gas tank cap looks like a fresh start by Briggs and Stratton carburetor issues again 😮
yes the cap is one of those special ones that take the capsules
@@HomeGaragechannel thing is do they still make those fresh start capsules
I would get that mower. But it would be more because it is a John Deere and has less to do with the design.
you make a good point
Jhon deer zero turn push mower
yes sir
i got a whole carb kit on amazon. it worked twice now it starts and shuts off I tried everything..
did it sit after the second use for a long time? Also did you recent add fuel to the tank? there might be something wrong with the fuel.
no and yes new fuel sat about 4 days
Hi😊😊😊
hi
I wouldn’t buy one … but … if I could score a nice one for free from a contact at the local dump, then I am all in!
I'm going to agree with you
I thought you said we would be surprised at why it wouldn't run?
an ounce of water in the carb doesn't happen all that often for me. It's usually several ounces of water.
No,I prefer a simple push mower !
Fair enough!
Who would want to buy from a company that makes it difficult for those farmers that want to take care of their equipment and does not let them?
I hear what you're saying
Can you make a video of all of the equipment you have?
unfortunately no, it would give away too much personal details.
@@HomeGaragechannel oh ok, thanks for telling me
