Absolutely. In my top 5 as well. So, so beautiful and sad. I was a young teen when this came out. I was in love with a girl and we went out for a while, but she eventually left me. She told me she was more interested in chicks. Yep, I got "Ross'd" (Friends reference). Yeah, this song was my go to back then. Super sad. I'm 33 now and she is still the only "true love of my life" or whatever. I've never felt that way before or again. Crazy shit. This song helped me a lot.
In the liner notes to the single, Keenan said: "Up until the mid twentieth century the mountain gorilla was considered a myth. Oddly enough, a legend not unlike Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster. The chance of actually seeing/experiencing this elusive shadow was as likely as finding one's soulmate. Rare. Precious. Even once discovered they seemed unapproachable. The only way to get close to this magnificent creature was to become empathetic. Abandon all pretense and preconceptions. To bare an open throat. To collapse into the arms of vulnerability. All but extinct, these beings/moments are threatened by the black hearted. The cold and oblivious. The empty eyed profit seekers that overlook these Rare. Precious."
You’re probably talking to the wall buddy. Vin could be open at times, but there is still that wall. The cult that they were indoctrinated into has Blocked all forward momentum.
Let's just admit Maynard is truly one of the most phenomenal lyricist of all time. Period. I've listened to a shit ton of music over the years. No one is this consistently awesome. 🤘👽🤘
Maynard is amazing at triggering emotions. The ONLY other dude I can think of is Chad Gray of Mudvayne. LD-50 is absolutely amazing when you dig into the lyrics.
Maynard said it's about parasitic people in his life. They all had birthdays that fell in libra. There were 9 of them but he called it 3 libras so they would all wonder if the song was about them.
Its true. He said it in the DVD released I think on the Emotive combo. He also had a commentary on The Noose video too. The Noose is what they should react to next.
I love this song. Probably my favourite from this album. It’s definitely one of those tunes that evokes emotions and feelings for me. The violin is a classy touch.
He grew up with 9 people who were libras and the song is about three of them but they were so conceded that he figured they'd fight among themselves to figure out who it was about.
There’s not a single skippable song on this album. I always loved this song and Rose the most. Rose is so unorthodox and different. You guys should do that one too.
I remember first getting this record and not digging rose at all. It wasnt until i was older and really gave it a listen that I absolutely fell in love with it. Such an odd but beautiful piece of music
Rose can definitely throw you off. It feels like a song played in reverse, yet marching forward at the same time... with vocals sung over it. But it makes sense in a really beautiful way.
Just how I see this song. Maynard isn't singing the lyrics on this. Another brilliant song! I wont go too deep into the song but it is both a love song and a tragedy! It's about being rejected by what you believe is your soulmate...but you are not the others! Notice the 3 in the title and the times things repeat and the three stages of the story being told ( the person tries three times to state his feelings) . I also believe that the Libras refer to the traits of that sign (maybe the person the song was written about is a libra) Example: Negative Traits Superficial, Detached, Unreliable HENCE = 3 (as stages and repeats of the song structure) LIBRAS( Libras traits) = 3LIBRAS example 1) When I've looked right through, see you naked but oblivious ( see's all the good and bad in the person and loves the person just the same but the person doesn't realize the love infront of them that loves that person as he/she is...don't we all want that?) 2) But I see, see through it all, see through, see you. ( same as above) 3) You don't, you don't, you don't, see me. ( third stage from the persons view about the other who is in love) also notice 1# You don't 2# you don't 3# you don't(conclusion) see me and then 1# You don't, you don't, you don't, see me. 2# You don't, you don't, you don't, see me. 3# You don't, you don't, you don't, see me. three times person state their feelings 1# Threw you the obvious and you flew with it on your back... 2# But I threw you the obvious, just to see if there's more behind the... 3# Cause I threw you the obvious, to see what occurs behind....
One of my favourite songs from one of the best records :). Fun fact Maynard wanted this to be the lead single from the record but the label felt the safe choice was Judith as it would appeal more to Tool fans. Also when Billy wrote the songs for this album he had always pictured a female singing on them.
Love APC. 3 Libras is arguably their best, but they have a lot of other great songs. A few to consider checking out are Weak and Powerless, The Noose, The Outsider, and Pet, all from the Thirteenth Step album. However, my personal favorite of theirs, at least at the moment, is the song Passive from the Emotive album. Their cover of Imagine, also from Emotive, is pretty good too.
I think you have to look at that last verse as one sentence. He is saying he wanted to see what occurs behind the eyes of a fallen angel and behind the eyes of a tragedy. Then he says, kinda defeated, "Oh well, apparently nothing at all occurs behind those eyes. That is pretty heavy. Cause I threw you the obvious to see what occurs behind the eyes of a fallen angel Eyes of a tragedy oh well, oh well apparently nothing apparently nothing at all
I absolutely loved this reaction! This song and this album meant everything to me growing up. Reminds me of the loneliness of being a teenager and unrequited love. Maynard is an amazing writer. Please react to Rolo Tomassi - Alma Mater Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
Vin your eyes in this reaction say it all. They looked the the way I feel every time I hear this song. The what if’s and the what may have been. The findings and the unfound. It’s a relationship, but to me it’s more of a relationship with the self. Something I feel we can all relate too. In a sense you could call it a search for God.
Amazing song, awesome review! You guys are off to an amazing start this year!! Thank you for all the hard work to get the videos out and your dedication to your fans.
That was a good one guys. This one got personal. You didn't have to share that cut of your reaction, but you opened up a bit, and it was truly candid. That's what I like about you guys, is it's honest. Good stuff.
Vin, the social media sickness you speak of here, I have myself recently put my phone down in an effort to get back to a time before it. At about two hours of screen time a week, I now make my way through the world in a place that feels like there is no one really here. You see everyone looking the exact same, down into the black mirror. It really feels like a last person on earth feeling or a zombie apocalypse around me. It is mind boggling and eye opening. Someday I hope everyone gets to the same place of coming back to the physical world.

I remember laying on the couch in the dark on a weekend night around 1am during some time in the late 90s and watching music television (could’ve been MTV). I remember getting half way through the song and making sure I could remember enough of it so I could do some kinda internet search (ask jeeves, yahoo) ahaha! The song hit me so hard that I sat up, listened and was given goosebumps. When it finish I immediately went to my bedroom to FIND IT. I was about 17 at the time. This song is so significant to me.
Damn....just damn....I was expecting a reaction and I witnessed a very relevant psychological moment. This is the most real I've heard 2 people talk openly on RUclips in a while. I appreciate this more than you know. Good for y'all. So many layers to this song, so many meanings. You can see the flash in Vin's eyes when he recognizes the song....felt that... Love and Hate this song.....
3 Libras is one my favorite songs of all time. I've never read the lyrics before, and now it takes on different meaning from my original interpretation. Beautiful song.
If you expect a broken person to act in a manner other than that of someone who is broken, it is a very good possibility that your perception is the one that is skewed
Go back to the Pantera 'A New Level' vid for evidence of Vin expressing how he views others as "lesser" than him simply because of his perception of them. He used the "hater" label to justify his, I'm better than you mentality. He then went on a rant about is he just supposed to "take your hatred to heart" & people following "weird social rules that people have" & how he views some other people that are "jealous, hateful, vengeful & just bitter" about their own life & when he feels that they are insulting him as a result of that for no apparent reason, they are "beneath" him. I guess he just doesn't realize how insulting he himself is at times. He criticizes others for a fault that he also posseses. If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is. Oh, & misery is part of being human. Most people have miserable days from time to time, others live in misery daily. It's a fact of life. Libra is a zodiac sign, but can also refer to: Lb is an abbreviation of the Latin word libra. The primary meaning of libra was balance or scales (as in the astrological sign), but it also stood for the ancient Roman unit of measure libra pondo, meaning “a pound by weight.” We got the word “pound” in English from the pondo part of the libra pondo but our abbreviation comes from the libra. The libra is also why the symbol for the British pound is £-an L with a line through it. The Italian lira also used that symbol (with two lines through it), the word “lira” itself being a shortened version of libra.
Thankyou so much Vin. I have had that experience with God. When He is the furthest thing from your mind and then all of a sudden he is reaching out and I gave him my hand. Also found out He has been in my life long before. The video is haunting as well.
Bingo! That's exactly what it is about.. showing her that he obviously loves her but she doesn't see it at all.. she either doesn't care or he's just stuck in the friend zone😂 he wants to know what occurs behind her eyes because she's broken.. a tragedy.. then he says ..obviously nothing at all.. occurs behind those eyes.. it's the most beautiful song I've ever heard because I have felt like that about girls I was friends with before and they either couldn't see how I felt about them or they just didn't or couldn't feel the same way about me.. 😢
Don’t think we’re going to see that. It would cut too far into their believes. They turned lateralis into a sermon. Bible quotes and all. EAnima digs Too far into the self. Good luck with that.
So much of this album, Mer de Noms, is full of lament. Just wall to wall gut wrenching sadness. Maynard describing how spectacular things could be if someone would pay attention, open their eyes or reach out. They never do. Good! Cause these heartbreaking vocals are just sublime. He's so good at this. So's this band!
Thanks for sharing your very personal story of self harm. Doing it myself, cutting is one of the only things helping me right now, along with A Perfect Circle and Tool's music. Most songs by Maynard deal with depression and suicide.
There aren't many songs that allow me to close my eyes and clearly see a memory, this is one of them. It has no relation to the meaning of the song, but the music itself is imprinted in my mind with the events i relate it to.
Vin... I see you bro! The song is more than just about a relationship. It's about his developed "shadow" inside him, speaking to himself as a child. Age 11... as per "Jimmy" 11 under a dead Ohio sky. He's saying thank you to himself for pushing through when he felt ALONE. It's a reminder of how pure he was as a kid, but he couldn't help himself through the trauma at the time... Because he couldn't see himself. Hope you're doing well Vin, I saw the pain in your eyes... I know a similar pain.
I couldn't agree more with your statement. It's crazy how "connected" we supposedly are today, when in reality we as humans are drifting further and further apart. There is serious troublesome lacking physical interaction with humans today.
Vin, based on your comments at around 11:20, you ought to check out the song “Future Shock” by Sims, a Minnesota hip hop artist. It’s a song about how we’re all so connected, but isolated at the same time. Really hits home. I think you’d like it.
Love ya vin and sori! 🤘🤘🤘🤘 Looking forward to seeing all the videos this year! Might I suggest one. do a reaction video to korn "holding all these lies" great song.
Lacy Sturm, lead singer Flyleaf, amazing testimony. Rough start in life, decides to end it. Her grams unusual behavior of screaming at her to go with her to church makes her attend (to shut her up) but she still planned to go through with it afterwards. In church preacher stated 'there's a suicidal spirit in here tonight'...she wanted to get out. She goes out the door and there's a white haired man , tells her God wants him to speak to her. That even though she never had an earthly father he would be her father and all kinds of other good stuff. I cry every time I even think about it.
He wrote this song about I think he said 10 or so libras that were once in his life. He enjoyed the thought of his past acquaintances trying to figure out which libras he was referring too. He also adds to this explanation with philosophy, which I'm sure other viewers will comment about.
To me, this was the gem on the Mer de Noms album. It’s hauntingly beautiful and one of the best songs that I’ve ever heard.
Indeed! I love it!
in my top five fav songs ever. really needs headphones to appreciate it.
The live version on Jay Leno is amazing.

A song about a broken person loving another broken person who couldn't look past their flaws to truly love the other. Hits a little too close to home

I totally agree. Maynard is great at writing thought provoking and emotional lyrics.
Maynard is amazing at triggering emotions.

A Perfect Circle - The Noose!
Possibly my favourite APC song. Love the vibe on that one.
live at Red Rocks, the best version
The Noose is such a completely AMAZING song!! Very good lyrics
Ayeew Tasko Yes! Beautiful song! And the Live at Red Rocks is so crispy 👌🏻

*Ænima*
tattooed ugly guy Dyslexic LOL
you should react to The Humbling River by Puscifer Maynards other band it's an amazing song I think you'll both like
So much of this album, Mer de Noms, is full of lament. Just wall to wall gut wrenching
sadness. Maynard describing how spectacular things could be if someone would pay
attention, open their eyes or reach out. They never do.
Good! Cause these heartbreaking vocals are just sublime. He's so good at this. So's this
band!
A Perfect Circle-Passive! I beg you
One of my favourite songs! It's so beautiful 😊
Billy Howerdel is such a great guitarist. Love this band.
You should react to Nirvana You know your right, it was last recorded song before Cobain died
PAAIAAAAAAAAIAIAIAIAIIAIAAIIAIIAIAIAIAIIIIAAAAIN
Kevin Li do you mean to say PAIN ?
@@jackpal295 Pretty sure it's a lyric from the song you suggested.
NSG hardest track Nirvana had in my opinion
@@mrchoptop5482 Never listened to Aero Zeppelin then?
Thanks for sharing your very personal story of self harm. Doing it myself, cutting is one of the only things helping me right now, along with A Perfect Circle and Tool's music. Most songs by Maynard deal with depression and suicide.
Not many songs this beautiful and deep in waltz time.
dream theater! lot of spirituality in lyrics. Faith no more for when you wanna have fun. Keep it up guys!
There aren't many songs that allow me to close my eyes and clearly see a memory, this is one of them. It has no relation to the meaning of the song, but the music itself is imprinted in my mind with the events i relate it to.
I love that she got emotional about your pain. You got a good one Vin.
I just think it's beautiful when one human being cares enough about another to feel and know when something pains you and it breaks their heart too.
Alice In Chains: Them Bones
puscifer - momma sed
Live
Yes! Momma sed live from “What is Puscifer”
Nice reaction!!!! Do the Noose!!!! Happy New Year!!
Favorite song hands down from this album.
This song has the power to tear anyone apart. In a beautiful way.
I'd love to see you guys to react to something from the aenima album by Tool. I think you guys would love H.
Especially since Vin is always bringing up Jungian psychology & those themes are woven throughout that album.
They're going to do the whole album...eventually.
What about Opiate and Undertow? We need those reacted to.
I had similar late nights in the early 2000's where this song really helped me.
pretty sure maynard wrote this about himself as a teenager, being overlooked by his peers at school
Breña, Rose, Magdalena. Those three songs are magical
I couldn't agree more with your statement. It's crazy how "connected" we supposedly are today, when in reality we as humans are drifting further and further apart. There is serious troublesome lacking physical interaction with humans today.
Please get through what ever you two are going through
Are you guys ready for the best damn song on this amazing record?
A Perfect Circle - Rose.
Vin, based on your comments at around 11:20, you ought to check out the song “Future Shock” by Sims, a Minnesota hip hop artist. It’s a song about how we’re all so connected, but isolated at the same time. Really hits home. I think you’d like it.
Love ya vin and sori! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Looking forward to seeing all the videos this year! Might I suggest one. do a reaction video to korn "holding all these lies" great song.
Good reaction. This album changed my life.
'difficult not to feel a little bit disappointed and passed over'
is my eternal mood
Moonspell - Night Eternal
Lacy Sturm, lead singer Flyleaf, amazing testimony. Rough start in life, decides to end it. Her grams unusual behavior of screaming at her to go with her to church makes her attend (to shut her up) but she still planned to go through with it afterwards. In church preacher stated 'there's a suicidal spirit in here tonight'...she wanted to get out. She goes out the door and there's a white haired man , tells her God wants him to speak to her. That even though she never had an earthly father he would be her father and all kinds of other good stuff. I cry every time I even think about it.
This song always gives me goosebumps
Hey guys! I think you two are doing a great job on your channel!
A perfect circle the nurse who loved me
He wrote this song about I think he said 10 or so libras that were once in his life. He enjoyed the thought of his past acquaintances trying to figure out which libras he was referring too. He also adds to this explanation with philosophy, which I'm sure other viewers will comment about.
You said it man, this album is crazy good all the way through.
Plini "paper moon"
So underrated prog rock/metal band I think Vin would like this band
The guitar riffs and solos are awesome
@@poomonster7427 You're right pliini are underrated indeed
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise + Fields of Desolation (LIVE Tyrants of the Rising Sun)
One of the most prettiest songs ever
