This song is about how Christians see themselves versus their true actions in reality. how they really treat people. It’s reality versus their projection a faith. He’s not talking about the ones that actually live the way they are scripturally taught in Christianity.
"He’s not talking about the ones that actually live the way they are scripturally taught in Christianity"... ehh, if you look at what the bible actually condones and commands Christians to do (especially in the old testament, but also the new), it's pretty heinous. Your preacher might give you all the nice verses, but the literalists don't cherry pick the nice stuff. I think it's also partly a commentary on American Christians and their "I've got mine, screw you" capitalist attitude, which is very much the opposite of what Jesus stood for.
This is my favorite song on this album, this is so brilliant and the atmosphere throughout the song and the deep lyrics, M’s voice, love it so much, epic song in my humble opinion... 😃 Great reaction, love you guys... 🤗❤️
Wow. Ok. There may be hope for humanity yet. From your godless heathen subscriber, I am proud to have your channel on RUclips. Not sure I’ve ever been more proud of two Christians. Ever. Well done Vin&Sori. Turn those tables in the temple. Wait until you hear Talk Talk.
Vin I freaking love you! Your brilliant at speaking the truth man... I don't identify as Christian but through another route in this crazy life I have embraced a relationship with my Creator... You are true Christian's in my opinion. Preaching the way Jesus would want you to!!!!
I ❤️ how you can see how Sori FEELS the lyrics & the music together! Vin just seems like he rocks out to the beat until he hears an offensive or questionable lyric.
This is the first time I've ever heard this song. I've heard "Judith" and "3 Libras" but that's about all I've heard from A Perfect Circle Thank you for putting the lyrics up, that helps me get a better understanding of the song
@VinAnd Sori This song is NOT a "diss on Christianity" at all. It is actually in agreement with the Bible about the state of the world about how "what is evil shall be called good and what is good shall be called evil." He is saying things are the reverse of how they should be, and not saying that it is a good thing at all; that things like being rich and gluttonous are praised as virtues while things like being "pure of heart" and "peaceful" are treated as weaknesses and people who have those traits get trampled on. The final lyric is actually, "F*** the doomed, you're on your own," not "the new." When he talks about "The new beatitude: 'Good luck, you're on your own,'" he's saying that is the current prevalent attitude in society, "every man for himself," and "F*** the doomed, you're on your own," because these selfish individuals don't care about helping someone else who is "doomed," and leave them to fend for themselves. They only care about helping themselves.
Lmaooooo "it's true....what are you talking about?" 💯💯💯 I love how Maynard bounced from anger to sadness in this, he really knows how to evoke emotion.
Loved it! Absolutely loved it! And I'm not talking about the song (which was great)... Vin, Sori, you both are the voice of reason. This world desperately needs more people like you guys. Much Love & Respect! \m/
Vin bro, you summed up my entire frustration with the Christian religion right here. The churches in my area have pushed me away so much because of the hypocrisy, this has begun to push me away from religion all together. Thank you for keeping it real!
I think this is a reflection of the world today. How we've lost our understanding, lost our way. How we've warped and manipulated the word of God. The Old Beatitudes- Definition 1: a state of utmost bliss. 2:Christianity : any of the declarations made in the Sermon on the Mount 01. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Be the last of all, the servant of all, do not judge others and share all. 02. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Consider well the people you and others have lost, the things you have not done well, and the things you long for. 03. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Be slow to anger and drop the ego. 04. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Love peace and be involved in helping others to make peace. Trust everyone and know they may let you down. 05. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Strive to do the right thing. Forgive others then yourself. 06. Blessed are pure in heart, for they shall see God. Look at things from the eyes of others. 07. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Build your castle with blameless foundations. 08. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. The New Beatitudes Definition; Fuck the doomed, you're on your own 01. Blessed are the fornicants, May we bend down to be their whores 02. Blessed are the rich, May we labor, deliver them more 03. Blessed are the envious, 04. Blessed are the slothful 05. Blessed are the wrathful 06. blessed are the vain 07. Blessed are the gluttonous, may they feast us to famine and war
So nice to see you guys getting back to APC! This was a fantastic album and it hasn't been out long. I have to agree with some others in the comments, try TalkTalk next, another fantastic example of APCs work. Keep em coming!
That last line is “Fuck the doomed. You’re on your own.” It is not “Fuck the new”. How did the person that did the video mess that up. You can hear it clearly.
It’s an indictment on modern, politically minded evangelicals. The Beatitudes are changed to blessed are the 7 deadly sins, then saying the true beatitudes have been abandoned. In several ways recently, the band has been proven correct in their lyrics.

Few great APC songs from same album: Disillusioned, So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, TalkTalk, By and Down the River. I like A Perfect Circle more than Tool.
TCM Me too, APC are easier to listen, but not in a negative manner. Tool are technically superior in creating some long and articulated songs, but APC go straight to the point with more harmony and melody. Both bands are fantastic tough (of course, there’s Maynard...) 🤘🤘🤘
So Long and Thanks for all the Fish is one of their worst songs to have anyone to react to. Not a reflection of their true sound at all. And it’s just not very good to be frank.
I (and others I'm sure) tried before to get you to react to this. Lol And I interpret the song as a voice against those in power (who are the "new christ" we are at mercy to) who are abusing their power, and everyone who is good is suffering for it.
I pulled out a $20K loan from Sallie Mae to go to the Art Institute. My dad and all my family were completely against it and I couldn’t understand why they didn’t want me to go to college. After getting there I talked with alumni, professors, current students and drop outs and learned what a HUGE mistake I had made. I ended up being hospitalized a year later with a mental breakdown after I was asked to pull out another $20K to keep going to college. A college no one was getting jobs in the fields they studied, going straight back to McDonald’s with over $100K in debt. What this countries done to its youth is appalling. I really didn’t understand what I was doing, I thought that’s what everyone just does… I dropped out and paid off my debt in about 10 years with help from my family. I highly discourage going to college unless it’s a free ride.
I don't know if this was intentional, but the rhythm and mood of the instrumentals in this song is very much like a death march. It really helps portray the message that we are all doomed, not that I particularly believe this one way or another (I tend to sway back and forth on this on a day to day basis). Musical genius in my opinion.
I am a new sub and use to be a christen, I have my own beliefs but I do agree the fact that people should do more for there fellow man and women and to be the light that guide others, im also in to the 7 chakras of the body. you to are amazing and also funny.❤
I think you are missing the point, the song is not about demonizing the rich, it's about demonizing the poor, basically criticizing society for idolizing the rich as if they were holy, and treating the poor like subhuman scum just because they are poor, because it's the dollar that is really worshiped in the west and the people who have less of it are less valuable, less holy, cursed, and doomed.
Dude you got it on point in your explanation. I do have to add that just because Christianity does follow a guide for being a good person not all Christians actually follow certain moral beliefs. You can be a kind-hearted, righteous, and merciful person without being christian. I do not go to church but I do believe in being a good and decent human that loves others no matter what background they are ethnically or culturally. Actions speak louder than words
It is talking about how all tje things good in the beatitudes are now not things that society focuses on or praises... How the world looks at the peaceful the meek and the merciful...good luck your own
