@taxation is theft memes news & more Yeah but not through exploitation of others. If anything their record labels are exploiting their talents, and keeping a huge percentage.
@taxation is theft memes news & more He works extremely hard and employs others. And only rich in the neoliberal sense. The actual rich have basically no use for money, other than to keep score. They are more interested in owning things like natural resources, you know like oil, land and politicians.
this song shows just how i see society these days. we praise those with power, rich and fame while we overlook the caring, the helping and the loving ones.

I think it has more to do with the so-called "Christian [political] right" than with actual Christians, but yeah. There's a ton of hypocrisy in Western "Christianity."
It does not matter! Whether it’s TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE, or PUCIFER yes in that order! Cause that is how MAYNARD has made the great CULT! The most underrated artist, truly a master and genius of his CRAFT!
The expressions and the choice of colors say it all. Great video, guys! It very well complements the message of the song. This song has grown on me ever since I played it for the first time last month. For me, it is right up there with all your previous hits like 'The Outsider', '3 Libras', 'Gravity', etc., and I listen to it almost on a daily basis. I'm really happy with the direction the band is heading toward with this album. Eagerly waiting to hear the full set of songs next year. A Perfect Circle rocks hard! Cheers.
This entire album got me through a really rough time. I worked at a brokerage firm and lived in a area that was full of uninformed and ignorant people. I have since moved and I can listen to this song without tearing up now. I will miss driving the Blue Ridge Pkwy to work listening to this album, but nothing else about that horrible experience. It is just nice to know that other people feel the same way you do...that you are not alone.
First time I didn't understood the meaning of this song, because english is not my main language. It's easier for me with lyrics, so I read them. This song brought me in tears... Such powerful lyrics.... And the most important thing... Talks about the real world and what's happening right in this moment.
SicraN he is describing the coming reign of the antiChrist, and it’s closer than we realized, it’s here, good luck your on your own ? Many may be but as for those with faith in the Gospel of Christ we are not, the Spirit of the one true God dwells with us. Now is truly the time to repent and believe the Gospel of Christ
Robert yee that is true and that is consistent with the behavior and actions of lost souls. But even the lost can spout truth in moments and not even understand what they are doing. Art is something that means different things to those who behold it. The lyrics do describe the culture of antichrist. It’s okay if you disagree with me but when you stand before your creator you will realize I am correct
Nicholas Anderson yeah why don’t atheists have an equal dislike for other religions like Islam, they will say they do but their behavior tells a different story, but if I’m not mistaken I think Maynard believes in a higher power but the new age universal salvation apart from Christ
that's because it's not the best song . That decision can only be made by a mystical council of druids specialized in music. The video itself is also pretty piss poor consisting of bust shots that are desaturated and contrasted against the background , a visual technique that would crumble if there was a black guy in the group. Not to mention that embarrassing mess of a hair display on that one guy. As for the eyes... It's called a ring light, get over it. friggin porn uses ring lights, it's not a special thing. And it's not that people ignore "powerful messages". It's that they are bombarded with distractions on all sides. The song itself is perfectly fine =-=
@@justafish9618 lol I wish that was the case. Why don't you try it? Make up a draft for a song, find people to perform for you, practice the coordination, perform for the final result. Get a manager , have him offer you a spot, accept the revisions that are being demanded of you. Apply for a video shoot. Supply or pay for recording and lighting equipment. Perform on a green screen , have someone skilled in visual media tell "you" how to act and how to look for the video. Revise everything and publish to the public. Somewhere in all this summarized mess is the innocent view of "songs are messages" that gets diluted and lost. I'm not telling you to not like what you like, but...better pop that bubble sooner than later. Times have changed and the industry needs numbers, not emotions. Most artists use that disappointment and frustration as fuel to push forward. Music has changed in more ways than one : / The middleman has poisoned the waters.
Such a great song in its brutal honesty. I have so much to be grateful for but I have enough empathy to see the suffering of others all around me. The sad fact is that there is no omnipotent God intervening in the suffering of the righteous, innocent and helpless. Their is no omnipotent God intervening while love ones die young of disease, while children are raped and murdered. Love and cherish your family and friends. Their existence is invaluable and life is brutal, beautiful and short. “The new be attitude, good luck your on your own.” But I do believe our consciousness may continue after this physical body dies or at least we can hope for as much.
Im having one of the most difficult times in my life, emotionally. When this album released i felt it's powerful hug and slap. APC is truly one of the best bands ever. Providing thought through raw feeling.
Doug super me too my friend. I trust that you are now doing better as this was posted a year ago. Cheers. I’m entering the shit now and I find myself playing this song on repeat.
Interesting lyrics. Pretty spot on in our current state of affairs. They highlight some of the issues facing us today. Though we've faced many of these issues before & in some cases we continue to face them; IMHO not necessarily to the degree that they are now occurring. There's a war against the poor. The meek & well mannered. The merciful & the kind. Chronic pain patients. Those with the audacity to think for themselves; to question authority. There's plenty more of course but I digress from those mentioned in the lyrics. My apologies. Now as for those mentioned in the lyrics I agree with MJK. It's a sorry state of affairs. The weakest & the poorest are suffering disproportionately at this point in time. That would be why I'm taking the time to comment. I do so; that others may be encouraged to contemplate what is mentioned in the song as well as my comments in response to it. Hopefully this will help draw attention to said issues & generate some response to them. Even if I only manage to reach a single person it becomes worthwhile. As the issues are to important to wait on acting upon as for some it'd be to late if it isn't already. So please take the time to look at these issues or better yet act upon them! Thanks to all who take the time to read this & my personal gratitude to those who take action on the issues. Even if it's just posting about them elsewhere, discussing them with people, or spreading the word on social media. Every little bit helps. Even better would be to contact your Congress person or other members of government & let them know your opinions on these important issues. Encourage them to act! Act now before the opportunity to do so passes us by & we don't have the chance to change things. If we act now perhaps we can avoid becoming "The Doomed."
My sister and I saw Tool twice at the beginning of the year, in Atlanta in the stands, and local in Pensacola on the Floor. She died September 29th of a Heroin overdose, it was the last concert we saw together. I'm sad she missed this.
This song has one of the best intros to hook someone who's never heard of this band. I had this one repeat for like 20 times the first time I heard it. Instantly made me a fan.
I've watched/listened to this song at least 20 times since I've found it. Thank you for speaking the truth Maynard. Society is worshiping false idols, and we're doomed unless our collective anger boils over. #optout
I used to listen to this song when my Mum would visit. She was my only family. Mum died of Lung Cancer October 2019, it was sudden and quick. This song was eerily foreshadowing now I look back. Love you Mum, I've got this.
Hey. I'm still listening a year later. Just noticed this comment. Step Dads got one foot in the grave now. Soon I will be on my own. I'm a fighter though, if you think I'm doomed then I feel sorry for what's about to happen.
Thomas Jefferson Not sure how much you know about the singer, Maynard, but he has been critical of Trump in the past "comparing the 2016 election to the film Idiocracy and joking Trump is probably late comedian Andy Kaufman in disguise." Maynards lyrics are often political. So, if Maynard did a song about Trump, it wouldn't surprise me, especially since Trump is the president now. I would like another song like "Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums".
There are no words that can truly speak to my love for this group of musicians. A Perfect Circle has changed my life in many ways. I can associate some of the best and worst times in my life with their music. I traveled 1400 miles to see them in Sacramento, CA and I will see them in Seattle tonight. "We're all fucked."
I was a little worried Maynard may not of had a unique voice anymore because he’s older. But hearing him on this track makes me excited for ANY new content from ANY band.
Barry Macokiner I saw APC a few months ago, and Maynard's voice was like velvet. He still sounds as good as he ever did. That show was freaking phenomenal.
Uhm.. Am I the only one freaking out over getting to finally gaze intimately into Maynard's drooping eyes for a prolonged period of time after nearly 30 years of never seeing more than his gyrating back in music videos?
I know nothing ever lasts forever but this glimpse of the art that Maynard puts forth will transcend time for other generations just like devinci or Michelangelo he will forever be remembered as one of the greatest artist ever to bless earth I'm just so glad it's during my time that I have gotten to watch him perform so many times in my life and I lean on his music whenever I'm in a bad time tool and apc forever my favorites thank you Maynard for always being able to bring me back to center no matter the situations in my life
I agree man. Totally changed my life. I've been huge fan and finally saw tool and perfect circle this year . The music is absolutely amazing and he puts out such a great message. This song in particular took a couple listens to actually understand and enjoy it. Then I smoked a lil weed and watched the video. Very powerful stuff.
Yeah, possibly. Except that the majority of people around don't know who Maynard Keenan is, they just don't. He's not like Bono or Bowie or Geldof et al. Go to the opera or a classical concert and do an in house survey, bet they won't know who the flip you're talking about. Polite society simply have never been exposed to his artistic endeavors. Not yet anyway. Imagine rocking up there and unleashing a grab of The Grudge, or Third Eye to such sensitive ears!!, hehe. What fun. I'm guessing when he's done with musical expression, he'll shift formats that will give him greater exposure amongst the conservative majority out there. He's already done some of that with blogs and wine writings. Though I can't see Tool or APC ever getting bona fide mainstream airing. Because remember: Tool is the biggest band in the world nobody has ever heard of. Test it out.
I loved APC since mer de noms and heard this song and was like ...meh its ok...and the more i listen to this album the more I realize this is one of their most talented and therapeutic and poetic albums I've ever listened to..I cant get enough of it regardless of any emotion I'm going through
In my opinion, APC has always had a darker tone than MJK's other work. Tool seems darker to the ear but is more spiritually themed. Puscifer is just a fun outlet. APC is so internally reflected.
mrlolster Not at all. As a disciple of mjk since 93 I understand the magnitude of the lyrics. Yes Opiate and Undertow are amazing and dark but APC gives a glimpse of the soul rarely seen in music today.
This song may just be my favorite on the album. This song is filled with and brings so many raw and deep emotion for the current state of many things going on. This one hit my hard in my heart and I can’t stop listening to it.
I lost my best friend last September and we always connected with APC. I get so sad that he'll never hear this album...do me a favor; hug your loved ones. Tell them how much they mean to you.
This came on my Puscifer-based Pandora station, didn't know who it was exactly but loved it and said if this isn't Maynard, he's trying hard to sound like him. When I looked it up I was happy to see a new APC track. Replaying this a lot and loving it.
I really wish right at the end, after it says, "You're on your own!" it cuts to a shot of a new Apple computer, juxtaposed on both the black and white screens, while highlighting all the new features, and on sale for only $1500! Excited for the new album
Some people really hated this album, but I stood firmly on my belief that this album was relevant then and now. This album will always hold great merit 💖
I love the music but the concept of duality in the video amazes me. The perfect ilumination, the contrasted faces and the expressions of the group.... It is a masterpiece
Karyna Kaminski Lol he said something like "being on tour, its hard to get a work out in. Why not multitask?" And he whipped them out and went to town on them 😂

Indeed... With Biden " In charge " you lot are doomed, the worlds enemies are dancing free knowing sleepy joe has no ability to defend the states and it's allies... Sad times.
I love bands that have eloquent thought provoking haunting lyrics that not only make u feel their empathy but make u long for a place u feel uve been even though it's never really existed
Bro, tell me I’m wrong… this is a gospel song. In the world we live in nobody cares about the pious, peaceful and merciful. These days the word is death and without light. Pay attention, Maynard is an absolute genius. This guy continues to blow my mind.
@ Eric Kerstetter....you're right...but the fact that you're right should scare the hell out of you. This isnt a song. This is a declaration of war against God's creation. Remember, MJK sold out a long time ("I sold my soul to make a record, and. you. bought. one!) Behold a new Christ....ushering in the AntiChrist... He is a tool for Lucifier's agenda...dont be fooled.
This song is sung through three different perspectives, or actually by three characters. All of the verses with his rougher voice accompanied by the distorted guitar and "war drums" are the tyrant. All of the cleaner vocals that abandon guitar and drums for bells and piano are those of the oppressed. The couple of lines with a clean voice harmonizing with the distorted voice ("And the word was death") is the omnipotent, so to speak. The tyrant and the oppressed exchange alternately during the "Blessed are the fornicates!" "May we bend down to be their whores?", et cetera. This works in whatever context you choose to apply it, but personally, I think it's obvious who the tyrant is.
With "the Tyrant" being the hero of the top commenter crying about how Maynard took the wrong colored pill... Interesting how those types don't have much creative thought and just find a person or idea that makes them feel good about themselves, without having to do the pesky thinking part. All you need is the anger instead. I bet there is a saying about angry mobs and how intelligent they are that fits here.. Of course the real war killing us all is the class war, but we just elected somone president for being a rich asshole and having no other qualifications.. So I guess the war on Christmas and those 17 coal jobs is still more important.. Sigh.
Thank you for this album. The whole thing is a piece of poetic brilliance, brutal, beautiful and balanced. Long live APC, see you live and in the flesh soon 😀

This song is Genius. He inverts biblical scripture to the Dark reality of this paradigm. Brilliance. If you don't know the Bible this song doesn't resonate as deeply.
I think it has more to do with the so-called "Christian [political] right" than with actual Christians, but yeah. There's a ton of hypocrisy in Western "Christianity."
Advent Nebula it's not though... it's a song about society as a whole. The things he talks about in this song are not exclusive to religion.
Not to mention if you don't know the Bible, then you don't recognize how misguided this song is.

Cheers.

"I'm really happy with the direction the band is heading toward with this album" lmao

Jayansh Singh I believe this song is heavily politicized. It plays into the collapse of a once great empire..The United States of America.
I am downright obsessed with this song.
I cant stop playing it. I think i have a problem.
I am too. Been a long time since a song owned me.
We should start a group of the obsessed.
Same!
Guess you can say we're.. (heh).. Doomed
Maynards hair raising vocals coupled with the sheer brilliance of the other members. Clearly one of the best alternative bands out there.
SicraN but still the lyrics are universal and timeless
SicraN he is describing the coming reign of the antiChrist, and it’s closer than we realized, it’s here, good luck your on your own ? Many may be but as for those with faith in the Gospel of Christ we are not, the Spirit of the one true God dwells with us. Now is truly the time to repent and believe the Gospel of Christ
FNX League no Meynard is pretty antichristian. Only a Christian would listen to A Perfect Circle and think it's about their Religion.
I can't wait for the new album.

This was truly the best song of 2017. It has such a powerful message. Too bad a lot of people ignored it.
that's because it's not the best song .
@@MasterYoda389 so you completely proved his point ngl

Music has changed in more ways than one : /
The middleman has poisoned the waters.

I just read an article asking where today's protest songs are; I count this as one.
This counts, as does Hostage Stamps by At The Drive In ruclips.net/video/JoNJ6AQhmFY/видео.html
Rise Against's "Welcome to the Breakdown" is pretty awesome too.
Right, eMotive had nothing to do with politics. /s
it's mainly protesting the state of mind that allowed Trump to come to power.
There are no words that can truly speak to my love for this group of musicians. A Perfect Circle has changed my life in many ways.
Yes, you're right but APC is not only Maynard's thinking, Howerdel's input is in there for sure.
Tool is definitely darker

Not at all. As a disciple of mjk since 93 I understand the magnitude of the lyrics. Yes Opiate and Undertow are amazing and dark but APC gives a glimpse of the soul rarely seen in music today.
I agree.
Patrick Williams Tool is darker. But only just. There are parallels, especially due to the writing of Keenan. The music is another story.
This song may just be my favorite on the album. This song is filled with and brings so many raw and deep emotion for the current state of many things going on. This one hit my hard in my heart and I can’t stop listening to it.

Profound and prophetic music.
A perfect circle = truth, beauty and brilliance
Sigh.
Geeze, somebody actually paused to think about what was being sent to them via this song. Keep doing that. :)
Here's what I've missed with APC/Tool songs. The song interpretation/s we could think of..
The tyrant is definitely not one person, but a whole group.
Thank you for this album. The whole thing is a piece of poetic brilliance, brutal, beautiful and balanced. Long live APC, see you live and in the flesh soon 😀
