he was also a soldier when he wrote this (poetry was his outlet during his time in the military). just picture him in his bunk/cot writing this, missing Tarja like crazy. Which totally explains the meaning shift in the remake.
Used to hate this version because the sound seemed too chaotic and unpolished and unfocused, but now I like it as much as the remake just for its... freedom? I don't know what to call it, but this has grown on me.
I've always found interesting the way the lyrics changed between the original and the remake version of the song: here hints are given that star-crossed lovers might one day in some universe reunite, whilst in the following version it's stated pretty clearly that he will always remain alone in her love for her, who on the other hand will move on. It almost sounds like Tuomas became more pessimistic about love ... (then again, my interpretation may in fact be wrong)
look further into his songs... you'll realize what really happened between him and Tarja. He hints that he had a crush on her in quite a few of his pieces. This song kinda puts it all together when you think about it. Especially his distaste with the "Angels Fall First" album.
It is a bittersweet love history, a strong and deep feeling that moved a person to wrote beautiful lyrics and music that helped a Lot of people to express their love couldnt never express himself clearly and started to consume him, breaking the bond he had with the love of his life for The bitterness for his frustranted love
Both versions were with out a doubt, and still are very good. Just this one is kind of a natural, for those who listen to music with hearts and souls, and the new version is done nearly perfect, but it does not have those emotions any more due to which it was stunningly inimitable.
I actually like this version better because I keeps that old nigtwish sound that they lost awhile ago a bit.Tuomas' voice in this song makes my soul bleed and cry.I have been having this song in my head ever since I met the love of my life,I have carried this song with me for years, lying in wait til the day that we could possibly become one,and all of that waiting payeds off because now I ams with him...forever bonded in eternity...
To anyone who compares the 2 versions and complains that there is something missing in either or both: try listening to both instrumentals side-by-side
@@MaronStyle yes remastered 2001 with Tony Kako voice from sonata Arctica and change some lyrics in the song. I love both versions because except different voices had the song different meanings.
I have to ask the dumb question, -which- version is this, the 1997 or 2001 version? I can rarely find this one and I can almost instantly tell it apart by it 'going harder' and the string instrument mixing in with the finale. Please excuse my ignorance and help a cow out?
Man, love the whole song minus the dude singing.. sounds almost off key among the rest of the beauty of the song. I can't help but laugh. It's almost ruined by it.
2024 and I'm still listening to this beautiful song 🎵🔥
Whenever I hear Tuomas' part I can just imagine him as a dorky twenty-something year old singing. It's adorable.

Baby Tarja's voice always make me smile lol.
20 y.o.
Tuomas' is such an unbelievable songwriter.. kind of a shame he can never sing his own songs because damn haha
poor Tuomas XD It's sooo cute when he sings XD
I fucking love all the angel fall first album, all of them are just amazing and wonderfull.
Used to hate this version because the sound seemed too chaotic and unpolished and unfocused, but now I like it as much as the remake just for its... freedom? I don't know what to call it, but this has grown on me.
Last I checked, this version is the only one available on Itunes. Pisses me off! (but the harpsichord grew on me)
If Tuomas could sing, he would be too powerful
It is a wonder how these guys were able to make something as grand as this being still almost "children".
If only they kept the harpischord in the remake..but that and the lyrics are why this one is my favorite!
Totally agree!

I firmly believe Tuomas was in unrequited love with Tarja.
@@Kradfire45 That's pretty sad if true...

For some strange reason, I actually like Tuomas´ voice in this album.
lol maybe I´m the only one.
Nah, me too🥰

Mil veces mejor que la otra versión 🖤🖤🖤

Instrumentals are probably the best part.
Tuomas said he wouldn't sing again... but I think his voice adds something fresh to the songs he's sung ♥
Music + lyrics of 1st version × vocals of the 2nd vers = perfection❤
there is something about this version.... was listening to remastered and said " no way dude" need me some of that ORIGINAL
the guitar here sounds so Dream Theater-y. I really like it.

The riff from Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb!
Pavithran M yep it is! :)) but that one's in Bm, and this one's in Em
It is Sorrow :)
You rock for posting soooo many Nightwish lyric videos!
Loving that harpiscord. Too bad they removed it from the remake :/
Damn, Tuomas' vocals are really flat, as much as I love him, I can see why he said he'll never sing on an album again.
Chris Lagann they're kinda meh on their own, but compared to Tarja's, Tuomas stands no chance.
@constantine131 no the remake version is tony of the sonata artica.
bingo te encontre!!! lo mejor nigthwish--tarja!!
Me enloquece la voz de Tuomas en ésta canción tan bellísima
Rate? Awesome! Lady Tarja, Nightwish, you for uploding- Hail Metal!
It's not Marco, it's Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica. (In the remake version)
This song reminds me somehow of early (1994) Cradle of Filth kind of music.
The one and only original versión
Part 2:54 sounds like a megaman x soundtrack
Original is the best
This is good song ;)
Que recuerdos!
I like more this version
well, You should listen to Beauty and The Beast then :)
@patapuffete for me doesnt matter who is singing in remake either marco or tony both sing very nice
Yup the remake has Tony of Sonata Arctica.
Better than the remake but that's probably because I heard this version first.
In my opinion Tuomas is the best singer in Nightwish
♥ 2K18 ♥
Mircalla Murray Because is Tuomas singing XD.
Felipe Barreto Oh! I don't know where I read that this song was sung by Tony. Thnx
Ligeia Murray Ok in the remake xDDD just forget it XDDD

Ellos nos han traisado. Take care of yourself.
Eto, to značči, po vašem će vam biti suđeno, u pokajte se.
it doesn't sound like tony kakko, sounds more like tuomas..XD
Ligeia Murray It is Tuomas
The intro reminds me of the Angel and Buffy theme songs
Yeah, too cute *_* :Q__ ehehehe! :P
with marco !?! remake is made by Tony Kakko
shanji92 it's tuomas
@TutuNadeshiko1015 check the remake version
jelenko evolves to Ratni Greimon
@minimoongurll its tuomas check the remake version sounds better with marco
well tuomas is not that big singer ...
Indonesia
Prefer Tony Kakko's version
Tuomas's **_voice_** sounds OK... his **_singing_** needs work though. Shame; he could've actually been alright.
hahhahahahah tuomas tuomas
The Over The Hills version is far better. Best decision Toumas ever made is realizing he can’t sing and handing off male vocal duties to others
Omg Thumas sings worst than me
Yes, but I still love it, because it's Tuomas. :D
Man, love the whole song minus the dude singing.. sounds almost off key among the rest of the beauty of the song. I can't help but laugh. It's almost ruined by it.
Who is the male singing in the song..? He sounds awful ..
Tuomas Holopainen
I love this song no dissing Tomas voice it is awesome
judas priest the sentinel intro
