Great job TM! Hi Nami. !! You cute pupper! I’m kinda surprised when you first start carving, the block isn’t even fastened down. I did notice when you were doing more detail work you did have your masterpiece secured in a clamp. Again, great workwomanship!! More please. Thumbs up everyone!
When the log seems heavy enough and isn’t moving on me I don’t clamp it which let’s me cut to the bottom of the log if needed! But once it starts moving it goes right to the jaw-horse! Nami says hi back🤗
Woohoo TayMarie! Home run BIG time. That is adorable! What a gift for someone on Valentines day! Thanks so much for sharing. This was so enjoyable to follow!!! 🤗💛
Thank you so much! Really enjoying exploring my new tools and all the cool stuff they can do! It’s all trial and error but I’m slowly finding my way 😁☺️
Nice to see you have more proper tools and bars now. You should also try Kutzall burrs. and you should also get an angle grinder with a Kutzall shaper soon.
Ended up going with Saburrtooth because Kutzall didn’t have the reverse dovetail in the size I wanted at the time! I’m sure in time I’ll try a little bit of everything, but for now I pretty happy with what I have ☺️ Those shapers are super cool though, definitely will try one some day! I follow Manpatools and they show it off all the time!
I plan to do some work to it this spring, add shelfs, doors, etc! I put it up during the first snow we had this winter, it was freezing and sort of rushed…I honestly can’t believe I got done what I did 😂 I framed some walls and put them up just to get me though this winter…but the lack of doors didn’t help lol! Once I get it a little more organized I’ll make a short “tour” video 😂😁
Freaking unbelievable!!!! Question! Do you have to have a different bar for carving or can I use an existing one? I know it’s probably easier, just was curious how much I have to spend to do a carving.
No not necessarily! I started out with a stock 18” bar and used that and that alone for months! What saw(s) do you currently own? I can make recommendations for bars that won’t break the bank if I know what you got! :)
@@TayMarie23 I don’t really have one, access to an old one. I like the electric Oregon one you have, that’s a $100 on amazon currently. If I don’t have to upgrade the bar right now, what is the next thing you would buy? Die-grinder, chaps, dremel? I have some safety gear… glasses, gloves, ear protection… I also have some smaller rounds at my house, like 3’ x 16”. Just stuff I was going to split for fires outside. What’s maybe two items you have to have or would recommend for someone just wanting to start. Thanks for making these videos and replying, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. Oh, and merry Christmas 🎄 or happy holidays!
#1 before you even start a saw up is chainsaw chaps. They can be expensive but sometimes you can find a good deal on Facebook market place, people buy them for a project then don’t need them. Get yourself a pair of those before anything else, looks like you have the rest of the PPE covered. For the saw, you could start with electric or get yourself a good cheap gas saw. I love my Stihl ms170s, I have two. They are strait forward, no bells and whistles, and super affordable at $199. Can get one from your local dealership or at an ACE Hardware. Watch my bald Eagle video, that’s the first project I used the ms170s with stock 16” bar. It’s a great saw for all carving levels, it will let you block small to medium sized projects, can put a detail bar on it in the future, and it is light weight. Other then that you can get yourself a cheap angle grinder, the one I have was around $10 from Harbor freight (HF). Die grinder are super helpful and one of the most useful hand tools. I have the Makita and cheaper Hercules one from HF, both work great. The Hercules one is around $70 at HF. Get good burrs for it, the cheap ones stink, either Kutzall or Saburrtooth burrs. With the die grinder and angle grinder you should be able to do almost everything you would want to and if you enjoy it you can expand from there. With the MS170, die grinder, and angle grinder with flap sanding disks you have yourself a great starting kit for under $350 all in. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas!
@@TayMarie23 thank you for replying to me, I really appreciate it! I have my list now, I’ll go get those things and get cracking! Well, after wrap some present and cook a standing rib roast for seven people, but when the holidays 🎄🍾 are over… then I’ll get cracking! 🤓 Thank you again for your time!
I got my bar through Bailey’s online! Great fast shipping! To my knowledge we don’t have any cannon bar dealerships or places that carry them here in Maine!
Of course! At Baileys I got a 14” quarter tip and a 12” dime tip! Idk if I got the right dime tip mount though for a Sthil, planed to put it on my corded saw originally, but now I want to put it on my ms170 🤦🏼♀️
LOVE YOUR VIDEO CHAINSAW CARVINGS. AWESOME / SOOOOOOOOO TALENTED. TAY COULD YOU TELL ME WHICH OREGON ELECTRIC SAW TO PURCHASE ( 14 INCH, 16 INCH OR 18 INCH? ?? YOURS IN THIS VIDEO LOOKS LIKE 18"? ALSO, BEING SOMEWHAT NEW TO CHAINSAWS, DO YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH "KICKBACK" WHEN YOU BLOCK CUT AND PARTICULLY WHEN YOU PERFORM HAIR / FUR ON BEARS? IF THIS SAW WORKS FOR YOU AND KICKBACK IS SAFE I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOUR FEEDBACK. ALSO, SHOULD I REPLACE THE STOCK BAR WITH THE "CANNON CARVER BAR "Length? Pitch- dime quarter? TO REDUCE KICKBACK ????? THANKS
Haha Valentine’s Day here in the US is also the 14th! I knew there was no way I was getting this carved and a video out in one day so here it is posted very late haha! Bears are honest a lot more complicated then they look but they are so fun to carve! What have you carved so far? :)
@@TayMarie23 Yeah was difficult to do, the video will always come good for next year, or anytime really. love gestures are cool at anytime. yeah i have the book, which goes step by step, just been distracted doing other things. im currently doing cartoon characters spongebob, bugs bunny, garfield
Ton ourson est bien réussi, mais il ressemble trop à des ours sculptés par d'autres sculpteurs utilisant les mêmes outils que toi. Essaye de développer ton propre style
Great work, loved the carving.
your little bears are so real looking I carve every day to get that good.
Keep working on it! Bears are tricky!
Thats an easy 10 out if 10 again. One of the best small bear carvings ive seen.

That's very cute!
Another great job young lady! . The little heart detail on the paws is brilliant. Your personal style is developing strong. Congrats.

Some times a small carving can be harder than a big carving I find Thanks for the video
Oh definitely, I completely agree! To get good detail on a small carving is quite the task as well! Thank you for watching 😊
Beautiful carving. Great Valentine's gift.

Thank you! The only reference I used for this little bear was another bear I carved, so I guess this is my style haha? Thanks for watching!
