So nice how it became looking like a owl so fast! Those breast feathers are neat the way you shaped them. The owl is so well painted! The colors are perfect and the idea came out just great. I don’t know how you can do such a good job outside in winter so I salute you for that alone!
Thank you for the nice comment! Still playing around with my feathering techniques, learning new things with each bird! and dealing with the cold is just something I signed up for when I decided to carve full time, sure makes me appreciate the other seasons haha!

I have three pairs of gloves, two pairs have rips in them from my tools, I sometimes purposely wear them so I can start and stop my camera without having to take them off! The “touch screen” work gloves never seem to work haha! 😂💛
How ADORABLE TayMarie! Such a unique use of that Y branching wood. I can see why you don’t want to sell him. It’s so true with all your carvings, they’re all part of you! It will be a joy for some lucky buyer for sure! Blessings cutie! Your always AMAZING!!! ❤️😊
I learned though fire my friend! I got a little electric saw as a gift, quit my nursing job, and taught myself everything I know about carving by making mistakes and learning from them! I went full time after my 5 carving, took the leap of faith and here we are a little over a year later :)
It is Eastern White Pine! Most of my work is either white pine or eastern white cedar. Our cedar doesn’t get big like western cedar though. I don’t know if Ponderosa grows here on the east coast!
Good morning. Love your videos! I have a question though. My Uncle had a german shepherd made for my Mom and it is kept outside all summer long and not sure of the wood its made out of but it seems dark and doesn’t look as beautiful as your work at all but wondering what if anything i could do to maybe make it look nicer? I do know that the person that did it had never done a dog and just looks ok. Very boxy if that makes sense also? Thank you for any help or advice you maybe able to give me. Thank you! Have a good day and keep up carving you do beautiful work and are very talented!
Sounds like the carver might have used boiled linseed oil as a sealer, common practice, but it can turn dark over time. Your uncle should reach back out to the carver for suggestions since he will be the one who knew what was applied. Feel free to email me a picture and I can see if I can come up with a plan for you! But you are always best off reaching out to the original carver, just send them some pictures and ask if they have suggestions! Otherwise reach out and we will see what we can do to save your Uncles carving :)
@@TayMarie23 Good morning.I could ask my uncle and will try to get ahold of him and see if he remembers who carved it-I would like any input you could give me-what is your email? Thank you so much for even responding!
@@TayMarie23 Hi. Ok. I will take some pictures and send them to you-going to give you a heads up-this dog doesn’t look like anything you would have done! But if I can get it to look better it would mean a lot to my Mom! Thank you again for any and all help! Have a good day
I don't know about all pines, but what I carve is Eastern White Pine which is a wonderful carving wood! It's also our state tree here in Maine and is very sustainable and abundant! Any wood can be carved, each with its own pros and cons. I have heard people don't like red pine, not sure about scrub pine. Some people love carving hemlock and spruce and swear it's the best carving wood while others will avoid it at all costs! You just have to play around to you find a wood that you enjoy working with 😊
When given the option I like gas for the throttle control, with that said I’m very happy with the MSE180c! Have only used it a few times since I just got it, it’s not overheating my bars and has been running very well! Electric saws don’t have any vibration so they are nice to detail with!
I didn’t plan to accept commissions until Spring but yes I am accepting 2024 orders now! I’m currently book into mid May with orders coming in every week! :) This owl sold yesterday evening! If you are interested the link to my website is in the description, shoot me an email!

Hello! I have about 4 hours from log to finished product on this guy, he is an inventory item. I carve for about 6 hours 5-7 days a week, even in winter to make ends meet. Since 90% of my work is custom order work, I spend a lot of time on my projects before my saw even touches the log. I sketch up scaled drafts from multi angles and that alone can take an hour plus. Long story short, every project is different - some takes months and some take one hour. All depends on the level of detail, size, finish type, and so so so many other variables. Don’t worry about how long it takes, all that matters are the results, speed will come with time :)
