    So nice how it became looking like a owl so fast! Those breast feathers are neat the way you shaped them. The owl is so well painted! The colors are perfect and the idea came out just great. I don’t know how you can do such a good job outside in winter so I salute you for that alone!

      Aww thank you so much, seriously means a lot! I enjoy talking to everyone and honestly this is a tough hobby to get into because there is little to no information on it. So if a minute or two of my time can save someone the hours of pain staking research I did, I’m happy to help haha! As the channel grows it will be harder to get back to everyone so I’m trying to enjoy it while I can 💛

    Turned out really nice. I just got a Makita electric saw and put a 14" Cannon quarter on it and I'm digging being able to carve in the shop with a heater on. It was 4 degrees this morning in Arkansas, so now I just have to find a better heater LOL.

    Good morning. Love your videos! I have a question though. My Uncle had a german shepherd made for my Mom and it is kept outside all summer long and not sure of the wood its made out of but it seems dark and doesn’t look as beautiful as your work at all but wondering what if anything i could do to maybe make it look nicer? I do know that the person that did it had never done a dog and just looks ok. Very boxy if that makes sense also? Thank you for any help or advice you maybe able to give me. Thank you! Have a good day and keep up carving you do beautiful work and are very talented!

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  9 месяцев назад

      Sounds like the carver might have used boiled linseed oil as a sealer, common practice, but it can turn dark over time. Your uncle should reach back out to the carver for suggestions since he will be the one who knew what was applied. Feel free to email me a picture and I can see if I can come up with a plan for you! But you are always best off reaching out to the original carver, just send them some pictures and ask if they have suggestions! Otherwise reach out and we will see what we can do to save your Uncles carving :)

    I love this one. So cool that you have the owl perched. Question: is pine okay to carve? Thank you. Scrub pine?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  5 месяцев назад

      I don't know about all pines, but what I carve is Eastern White Pine which is a wonderful carving wood! It's also our state tree here in Maine and is very sustainable and abundant! Any wood can be carved, each with its own pros and cons. I have heard people don't like red pine, not sure about scrub pine. Some people love carving hemlock and spruce and swear it's the best carving wood while others will avoid it at all costs! You just have to play around to you find a wood that you enjoy working with 😊

      Hello! I have about 4 hours from log to finished product on this guy, he is an inventory item. I carve for about 6 hours 5-7 days a week, even in winter to make ends meet. Since 90% of my work is custom order work, I spend a lot of time on my projects before my saw even touches the log. I sketch up scaled drafts from multi angles and that alone can take an hour plus. Long story short, every project is different - some takes months and some take one hour. All depends on the level of detail, size, finish type, and so so so many other variables. Don’t worry about how long it takes, all that matters are the results, speed will come with time :)

    What does it cost for a piece like an owl?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  6 месяцев назад

      I have sold $100 owls and I have sold 2k owls. I can customize any project to your budget, the higher the budget the more time I can spend on the project and the more detail I can achieve. ☺️

    If someone wanted to commission a piece like that,,,, what would be the going price

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  9 месяцев назад

      There are so many variables when it comes to commissions, I tailor every project to the customers wants, needs, and budget. Non ordered inventory items, like this piece, tend to be a bit cheaper then commissions. I will probably get around $475, give or take for this guy. Or more so he doesn’t sell right away and I can keep him in my living room for a few months longer 😂

    Amazing job with this log and how you turned it into an owl!
    Would love to see you do a unedited cold start challenge video on all of your gas powered chainsaws to see how many pulls it takes you to get each one started and stay running.
    Do you accept 😉😏

      Other then my ms170s, all my other saws start right on up in the cold! Helps that I run most of them daily. Having a winter mode on the pro saws is very helpful :)

      @@TayMarie23 Good to know and thanks for sharing. But I’m talking about leaving them outside for one hour and then trying to get them started 😉😏
