Wow!!! He flattened himself like a pancake! I have a very, very shy ragdoll that I adopted from the cat rescue and was 6 months old when I got him and took months for him to literally come out of the closet lol...he would do the same thing to hide in cabinet between the kitchen sink and the dishwasher...no opening or anything to the cabinet and would find a tiny spot where the baseboard met the floor under the cabinet to somehow get in and then got stuck in the wall! But he did the same y! Incredible footage and definitely maincoon on the cat... beautiful 🥰 thanks so much for trying to help them and amazing in the recovery!! Awesome footage!!🙏🤗💚🥰

My Siberian cat could escape a harness. He was pure liquid. It was amazing. So much for harnessing and walking a cat to protect them.
Cats can also de-materialize. You know... you put them in a room and close the door. Come back a little later and they are nowhere to be found. You look again and they are not in there. Come back AGAIN and there they are sitting in plain sight wondering what you are looking at.

I'm very surprised that the feral cat who had been trapped kept returning to the trap location. I guess he was sure he could get out?!?😮
Maybe the cat was injured escaping for another trap somewhere else and he had to dislocate his hind leg to get out like Mel Gibson dislocating his shoulder to get out of a straight jacket in Lethal Weapon 2 . Maybe they should call the cat Mel or Riggs hehe.
Eating in the trap while it’s propped open and then escaping without much delay when trapped might’ve made it feel pretty confident

If it was only rats they ate we'd all be happy. But everything to them looks like a rat.

Ha ha. He is an escape artist. Perhaps it is his destiny to remain in the wild? It was good to see him naturally recover from the injuries of the raccoon fight. He seems to be a healthy cat.

Yes. It is amazing what they can do. And if you had their jumping ability, from the ground, you would be able to easily jump up to a second or third floor porch or deck!

You: The cat was only trapped for 4.5mins, and didn’t even try to escape for 1.5mins. So it only took him 3mins to get out once he decided to try and leave.

THANK YOU for posting this! I thought my stray had vanished into thin air, it was just on my back porch for a few minutes, and gone by the time I got out there. I thought it might have slipped into another dimension! I too had a camera set up, but it did not catch the escape portion. This cat also was extremely relaxed, didn’t even look behind itself when the trap snapped.
My cat loves cat videos like this. He stretches out on the footstool and is glued to this cat video and other cat videos.

Instead of a hip injury he might have gotten a bite on the hip that got infected and it took a long time to heal. Despite him being the killer you describe I'm glad he's better at least he has a chance.

I think it is awesome that he healed up naturally from the injuries he got from fighting with the raccoon. That shows he is a naturally healthy cat.

If the same laws pertaining to dogs owners were applied to cat owners, with stiffer penalties enforced, we would see less stray cats. The organism will do what it has to, to survive. I have to wonder why cats are not protected by law as dogs are. Are they considered "lesser" in some way?

I just lost my best friend, Gato Diablo a few months ago, after the loss of my precious twin, he was one of a few friends who didn't leave, whilst I lost my mind. "Big" was 17 yrs old and also got me through the death of my parents in 2020. He ordered my life, vocally lol! And fell on me when I cried, mostly to shut me up but... he also helped me rescue 35 cats and kittens in 12 yrs. I found him suckling the last two baby's, Mojo and Dozey, my last two angels. Xo

@@lisawest9731 No one I know calls cats "throwaway animals"! That's ridiculous. Cats don't roam around chasing and threatening people, as dogs sometimes do. That may be why dogs have to be licensed and kept in check.

Driving electric quad at night while having companion with thermal vision googles,using supressed pcp 6.5 or 7.62 combined with night vision scope is best solution to find and dispose the feral cats.

Just like bears and raccoons, domestic cats have a lot of physical strength. And like that of terriers, squirrels, and mink, domestic cats have a small enough body to maneuver through very tight areas.
It was amazing how he powered through that small gap without injury. BB
@@MyBackyardBirding It amazes me how domestic cats hardly get injured when they fight with each other. There's those typical cuts and scratches, but moderate to serious injuries aren't common.

I have a standard trap and a round trap, and cats have escaped from both. A cat just got out of my round trap tonight. I was just about to bring it inside and keep it in my room so I could bring it to the vet tomorrow to get fixed then released. I should bring it inside immediately.

why did you edit out the clip where the trap door shuts?
These clips were from a trail camera and unfortunately there is a 10 second gap between each of the one-minute videos spliced together.

What brand of trap? Had the same happen with a wild cat with that type of trap, except the the cat had more speed on departure, and seems to have not came back, which might be a good move for it.
And a challenge for preventing (not relocating) its further predation of native species.

It took me over 2 months to trap a female feral cat, but fresh grown catnip was her downfall and I found some raccoons do like fresh catnip too.
Sardines are very difficult for them to pass up as well!
Have you seen the bobcats fight the feral cats, raccoons or coyotes before?
The bobcat would of course dominate any of those other animals.
this happened to me, someone else trapped the cat and she got out when I brought her home. Several women screaming at me and would not believe me when I told them the cat panicked and escaped. I was told my fault because I should have put the side she was trying to get out of, against my stomach. I would not suggest that to anybody.
This cat has escaped twice even after I reinforced the trap. He now lives free. There is a trick the most hardcore cats know. It seems impossible but they get out.
I love cats. People and suburban sprawl are non-native invasive species. Just like cats. And the little species they must have to survive are just species which also invade species for their own survival. It’s the life cycle under which the world lives. Extinction is inevitable but from far more than our beloved felines whom the New York [Sl]imes loves to demonize.

This looks like those cheap traps you can buy at Harbor Freight i had one before and got rid of it for the same reason
I have caught and TNR'd and or found homes for 8 cats with this trap over the years, but this one old- timer knew the trick probably from being caught before and had the guts to contort himself. It is designed as a foldable trap and true it's cheap, but strong, the trick to fixing it is to just put big zip ties thru the bottom corners.
You needed a better quality trap. Cheaper traps ate not worth all rhe time you invest, take it from me.

Cats have amazing abilities, no doubt! Someone said they are liquid. I prefer "shape shifter" because it implies something spiritual and maybe a little on the demonic side. A Tae Kwon Do instructor I knew said to watch cats every chance you get. I also have to question the latch design of the trap.
I made some mods to the door after seeing how he escaped, but clearly some cats are smarter, or learn from experience, more than others as I've caught and TNR's or adopted six in this same trap and most just accept their fate. This though is a truly wild creature and I've left him be to live out his life on his own terms. See him once in awhile. BB

Wrong. Every animal has it's place in nature. All domestic cats are directly related to the wild cats, most of which came from the northern part of Africa. There are no animals on the planet that are more endangered than felines - especially the larger ones - tigers, snow leopards, clouded leopards, etc.
And because our ancestors up here in the Northeastern part of the US were so fearful of them, the mountain lions were hunted to extinction in a huge portion of the country. Felines are apex predators and highly vital to maintaining the balance of nature.

@@chrisspanks7750 Well i disagree with that. I believe that all creatures have a place in nature. It is not the fault of any creature on the planet that it simply exists. It was not your fault that you were born, nor was it my fault that i was born.
Somebody else made the decisions that resulted in our existence. Feral animals exist because of irresponsible people. People that abandon them without ever having them spayed or neutered. Then populations of the flourish because they do what animals do. The people are the root of the problem - irresponsible people.
In fact, irresponsible and greedy people are the root of all the major problems on the planet. What causes more damage to the planet, a few stray cats, or people? Who are the ones cutting down all the trees in the forests? Who are the ones dumping toxic chemicals into rivers, lakes and oceans? Who are the ones dumping tons of plastic into the oceans? Who are the ones that start all the wars? Who are the ones that have hunted many animals into extinction? Who is it that has the greatest impacts on this planet?
To solve any problem, you must go to the root of the problem. Change the people and you can solve the problem. If you can not change the people, the problem will never be solved, and you will accomplish nothing other than complain about it until you grow too old and tired to complain any longer.

@@tonyprice2256 We must indeed change people, so that there is no more abandoned pets, among other things. We also have to deal with the feral cat issue, just like we deal with pollution. If you wish for the best of feral cats, adopt them. Or keeping them in an enclosed area, like how you would deal with abandoned tigers in a residential area.
Have some sympathy for the local wildlife.
