I was at this show and OMG, Hugo is a dead ringer for Steve Perry, both in appearance and in vocal range. These are tough songs to sing, and Hugo hit them all, from the first song to the last. If you haven't seen these guys live, I highly recommend you do so. They put on an incredible show that is fun for everyone.

There's a big difference between being in a tribute band and being in journey. Arnel is also a karaoke version of Steve Perry. He doesn't look like Steve, but even on the original songs they did on revelation in 2008 clearly he was mimicking Steve Perry. The only way Journey works is to replicate the sound of those classic songs. I have no hard feelings towards Arnel but don't kid yourself that there's anything original about him. Hugo has been singing these songs for a ling time and his voice is still holding up, let's see what Arnel has left in about 20 years. At the Rock and Roll hall of fame performance Arnel sounded hoarse. Neither one is Steve Perry, and creating that sound is very different than just copying it.

When the word Karaoke version is used, it means no pipes, can't reach the high notes and no Vibrato, which is evident in all his video's. A lot of Professional vocal coaches reaction on AP is superb. Look it up on YT. Also, he was hired by Niel Schon to sing JOURNEY songs with a high tenor tone to keep the magic. He is the rightful successor per thousands or millions of people. Hugo didn't make the cut ( not even close), he looks like the part but cannot sing. AP was the best front man per Deen Castronovo (look it up.) 25 million people in Chile enjoying AP during his concert here and gained millions and millions of millenial fans in every corners of the world speaks for itself. Not to mention sold out stadiums. AP is in a league of his own. He does not need to prove himself anymore. The proof is in the pudding. Also, SP is getting royalty from all their concerts. So he should thank AP and Journey. FYI, I'm a big SP fan but its the "Now". I love this Journey right now. Regards, from Chile.

I wasn't there. The guy does look and sound like Steve Perry, however the one thing that bothers me with any aging band is when they have the audience sing. It's a cheap out and this isn't even the original singer and they're doing it. You pay for a ticket to hear the band sing; not have them coach the audience to sing....
They did find him several years before Arnel, but Neal Schon was freaked out when he saw Hugos performance and felt the fans and audience wouldnt buy it and become a spectacle. I kinda agree....
