New subscriber, replacing the PS hoses is a good afternoon of work, and steering rack access is a major obstacle. I replaced my AC unit and that would have been prime time to also attend to the hoses. Thanks for sharing your take on bleeding the PS system.
Even if you replace the AC unit, you still have to remove the oil filter/cooler housing to remove the steering rack. That job is a nightmare, I had a pro mechanic do it a little too much for a DIY, will also need re-alignment done.
@@takeshi1242 You are right it is somewhat complicated and not a quick repair, I would call most of it fiddly not technically difficult. My father was a mechanic and thankfully he passed some of his wisdom down my way.
Thank you for sharing. I might be better, if you get one of those (not very expensive) drain hand pump and drain the fluid first and then remove the container etc... It will be much cleaner.
Please pardon my ignorance; I’m a new LX470 owner, but we’re working on the power steering system l, and you’re using atf transmission fluid. Am I missing something? Do these trucks use the same fluid for both systems? 🤷🏼♂️
No worries it's a common question for all of us. Base of the cap on the reservoir and the owner's manual, these take ATF. Toyota also makes a ATF combo fluid for both the Transmission and Power Steering. (I'm not a professional mechanic.)
I am lazy...I just extract the fluid from the reservoir and refill with fresh, every 10k or so. If it has never been done and is dirty, just do three or four extraction/refill over the course of a few thousand miles.
Question, my mechanic replaced my ps pump and filled it with clear power steering liquid, not really sure if there's clear atf fluid but now it makes a sound. Can I just flush it out and replace it with red atf fluid? 05 land cruiser
I'm not a mechanic but I believe the correct ATF that needs to be added to a toyota's Power Steering should be red. If the pump is now making noise it could be that they just added regular Power Steering Fluid which isn't correct, if the cap or manual ask for ATF.
Appreciate you ever since your Eclipse content ❤
Thanks for the support!👊🏽😎
