They should have forcefully taken his keys. You don’t convince someone who is drunk not to drive.
Trying to talk a drunk person into giving up their keys is like trying to put out a fire by pouring gasoline on it, I think I've maybe done it successfully once in my life, and that was only after I promised to cook dinner for both of us if he stayed. It always sucks, especially if its a close friend, but sometimes the only option you have is to forcefully take them from him, or physically prevent them from opening their car door and getting in. You'll end up taking some abuse and threats from the drunk, and maybe even have to deal with a physical confrontation, but there hasn't been a single time in my life where the person I stopped from driving drunk is angry about what I did the next morning, and alot will even thank you for looking out for them and being so persistent. It's like I always say, if you can't deal with not operating a vehicle after you've been drinking, then you're gonna hate being forced to install an interlock where you can't drive even if you're way below the .08 limit!

If i was dude that recorded him i wouldn't be so proud to show my face for an interview. He could have done so much more than just record him. As a team effort, they could have taken his keys and called the cops. Just listening to him talk is annoying.
I seen the original video and when the guy was in the restaurant they could have easily taken the keys from him and prevented this whole accident from happening.

It is entirely the drunk driver's fault, but it's scenarios like this which made me a defensive driver. Every time I see someone in a turning lane or getting ready to turn in general I tap the breaks until I know this person is going to let me pass by safely, and if they go for it at least my foot is already on the brake pedal so I can slow down or pull into the center lane if need be. It's not our job to let them break the laws but we do have it in our power to be as vigilant as possible when driving. Stay safe out there guys. Always better to be safe than sorry.

This is why we need strict laws for buying booze like they have for buying guns! Back ground checks, permits, wait 10 days and can only buy so much at one time! Then when they drive hurt or kill someone 10 years to life and 50,000 dollar fines!
