    Using an Inventables X-carve sure opens the door to making some really amazing things! In this video, I use my CNC to help make an absolutely beautiful end-grain walnut cutting board with a contrasting maple inlay as well as a couple more features! Watch the video to see just how versatile an X-carve can be (flattening, carving, engraving, etc.) and how useful it would be in YOUR shop!
    Interested in getting an X-carve for yourself? Check out the links below for more information and to custom configure one for your shop!

    After having the X-carve for awhile, mind giving a review on it? Heard good and bad things and would love to hear your take.

    • @FishersShop
      @FishersShop  5 лет назад +28

      In short, I can just tell you that at first I didn't think a CNC had a place in my shop. And now, I'm very happy to have it and am constantly thinking of projects where I can use it. There's a bit of a learning curve at first, but once you get comfortable with its capabilities, you start to see how it can be used to simplify certain tasks or to accomplish things that normally you wouldn't have been able to do. Couple that with how affordable it is, and the X-carve is a great choice. I encourage you to check out the links that take you to Inventables. There, you can configure a machine sized appropriately for your shop with as many or as few bells and whistles that you want. Plus, Easel (the CNC software) is free for anyone to sign up and tinker with. Hope that helps!

      @@FishersShop I think Tommy was maybe hinting at a vidio review, however, that was a great endorsement, just by reading that has sold me at least. Oh, and of course your vidio was great, but not quite as good as your sense of humour. Yes, that's a compliment, take it anyway you like 😃👌✔

      Gordon Chapman I wasn’t hinting at a video review, however, I think it would be great. I’ve been on the fence about getting one, so I am doing research. Looks promising.

      @@FishersShop Hey, sorry for asking this two months after the video, but what size x-carve are you using? I've been resistant to the idea of a CNC, but I've decided it's just another woodworking tool, a fairly expensive one but hey, you can't take it with you.

      Same with small planes when breaking edges. Go towards the middle on the edge and inch or so then come back down the length of the edge the other way towards the inch or so you already beveled. This will prevent the edges from chipping out.

      Haha, yeah putting end-grain through the planer isn't a great idea. Using the CNC is perfect for it though. And on larger pieces, you'd probably have to use a router sled. Thanks for watching!

    Really nice work. I've made quite a few such boards but never tried an inlay.
    You can put an end grain board through a thicknesser BTW - it just needs really light passes (e.g. 0.5mm or 1/64"). It's a good idea to glue a sacrificial strip of wood (e.g. pine) onto the edge that will exit the machine last, as that prevents the knives from tearing out the end of the board. You can also glue another couple of sacrificial strips down the sides of the board, that extend beyond the ends by ~10cm or 4" (i.e. 50cm long strips for a 30cm long board) as that means that the planer snipe should be entirely on the tips of the strips; meaning there's no snipe "step" on your board.
