    Getting stuff out of the container and into the tent was a combination of exciting and stressful. Having great friends (and the right equipment) made all the difference. Having the tent for the build is immeasurably helpful.
    So satisfying to see so much of the build appearing to happen so fast. That'll give an adrenaline boost that will be necessary to carry through the small details for the next period of the build. Now you can just sleep in the two outboard hull sections!
    So fun though!!!

    When I first saw the opening of the container I was worried. It looked like all the parts had been carelessly put in there, and hope for the best for the journey. But clearly I misjudged the factory. They had been skilfully and safely mounted, and well protected for the journey.

    Awesome work guys, however not without an unhealthy amount of risk during the demobilizing from the container. If you ever have to repeat such a situation, arrange for a 40 foot open top container where everything can be safely removed in a quick fashion with a crane. I know they are a bit more expensive in regards to shipping costs but certainly a benefit in reducing risks of fatalities and or damage to hull sections. Another benefit if possible is to arrange a single jib section lifting for the telehandler. So much more control during lifts.

  • @tonyfromaus7855
    @tonyfromaus7855 3 года назад

    Amazing. Thanks so much for sharing. Alex is a hero. It occurred to me that the factory needs to put them in the container as well as you needing them out. Perhaps if they pre-fitted lifting straps to each piece with a loop at top to let an extending fork into the loop and then lifting the piece... maybe the load and unload would be easier. Might cost factory but would save time loading so it might be a wash on costs. Also they would be able to tape the straps in place at perfect lifting points. Just a suggestion... maybe I’m wrong. Good luck with the build. Thanks for sharing the adventure.

I am sure the truck driver was happy to at least get his mandatory rest time while still being on the clock. Nice work unboxing the lower part of your boat. The factory might think about including a set of instructions to make braces and stanchions as aids to "lift" the pieces out of the shipping containers. Too bad the marina didn't allow the container to be dropped for unloading. Good work guys, looking forward to the build and sailing after!

  • @mickvr9361

    Job well done 😎. For the next container you might want to look at it being delivered with a side loader. I.E truck drops the container on the ground and leaves for it's next job, then comes back to pick up the empty container the next day. That way you only pay for container delivery and pick up, and possibly an extra days hire on the container. You will not be paying for the truck and driver to be doing nothing for 6+ hours.
    Also with the container on the ground it makes things a lot easier. I.E using trolleys or dolly's with pneumatic tyres (your working on gravel) to help shift large articles out of the container.
    Another suggestion is to removal the fork and backstay assembly from the tele-handler. This well give better clearance into the container and you can then use slings to lift whatever it is you are trying to move from a center point inside the container.

    Have so been looking forward to this! Please don't think that things will be too boring for video. The construction process and getting to see the "insides" is something I've been wanting for a long while now, and you guys are providing it!
    I assume that at some point you will need to lift those parts back up in order to bond them together? I assume that's going to be a fairly early step before you start actually building out much inside the structure.
    This really goes a ways to showing that while you might be able to purchase the materials to build a boat for a lot less than the cost of a boat, the labor involved is where a lot of that price goes!
