So true. Normal types are just as interesting even if mechanically they tend to be more simple type wise. Furfrou and her haircuts really changed my mind on normal types. (Not to mention furfrou has such a great ability)
Eevee is mother. Eevee is so mother that Pikachu, every single day, that TIRED LITTLE RAT, sweats every time she goes to sleep if she can even fall asleep in Eevee’s presence. Knowing that Eevee is around and kicking makes Pikachu shake and quiver because everyone knows that Pikachu is signed to a really, really high label agency - she has a really big marketing fund. They’ve successful advertised Pikachu and convinced us that Pikachu is the one but EEVEE; as an independent artist has managed to become THE other mascot and Pikachu is so scared of her talent, so scared of her looks, so scared of what she can provide, and every time that she does get to provide she eats it UP. - took the liberty of typing this out and sending it to my boyfriend who is a psychotic pikachu stan and it's so troubling. he needed to hear it. facts are facts

Disagree. Pikachu isn’t a nepo baby. All the Pika clones are nepo babies, but Pika isn’t. Look at the original Red/Blue (or Red/Green) and Pika was barely considered special. I’m pretty sure Clefairy at one point was considered for the mascot role over Pika. It was only when the anime came out that Pika blew up. If anything Pika is the kid from a regular family that was pushed into show business and became a star.

I know no one else will so I have to make my case for zangoose. My girl is out here representing all the emo girlies who became punk after high school. Zangoose is like a story that writes itself she is so versatile and the literal embodiment of androgyny. Like they're giving cvnt but also like transmasc and enby realness. She has a chokehold on Camp University and I think that's why she's so great, you could add her to any girlypop team and she will just give that camp flare that will just leave you questioning the limits of girlypop.

This series unironically opened my eyes to a whole new kind of playing Pokémon games, so far I’ve only done Nuzlocke and mono type runs, but the idea of creating a team around a concept (or a “storyline”) is def interesting!

When the highest tier was revealed to be “mother” I knew I was going to love this video 😭 really though I love normal types, my favorite are the ones who are giving cowboy. Dodrio, Miltank, tauros, bouffalant, wooloo. If I can put you on a ranch or put a saddle on it I’m saying yeehaw
the normal type is such a subtle slayer in the pokémon-girlypop universe. although we have very extravagant types like ghost and fairy that are sure to serve you high concepts every time, it was essential to first lay the groundwork of what makes a girlypop pokémon through the normal type. normal type really pioneered girlypop pokémon as a whole, with main staples like jigglypuff and clefable. in storytelling, we are only able to understand grander analogies and messages because we learnt the core principles of what makes a story, and in this sense we are only able to get to the gardevoirs and absols through the eevees and lopunnys. normal type pokémon excel at “less is more;” pokémon like skitty and mincinno give JUST enough to show that they CAN serve but leave the rest to the imagination. also on a team, having a bunch of primarina or pheromosa-like pokémon is going to suffocate the message you are trying to convey. so by balancing the team with these simple serve pokémon, the main idea is able to be sufficiently read by the audience. the normal type is such a diverse and foundation-laying type and it NEEDS to be talked abt more… also winter(brown) deerling is giving chocogirl/sweet lolita (especially the shiny) and could totally fit into a team themed around that

The girlypop ranking videos have really put Pokemon that I've never considered into a new light for me! I'm replaying all the Pokemon games and I'm loving getting to use all these Pokemon that are basically new to me, and it's all thanks to these fun videos! They have made my experience playing the games sooooo much more fun and refreshing :)

Love this series! Normal types have a special place in my heart. There’s so much variety so there’s always something for everyone. Though I personally like the really cute ones like Minccino and Skitty.
I would say Ursaring can work as an accessory to a girlypop main, fitting that meathead jock bf (perhaps even lumberjack) type trope. A comparison point to the fem cuteness of the girlypop idol.
The normal type is so underrated! I think the animals I see at the zoo or at the park are part normal type!

Feeling the same with learning this evolving space - but about Stantler, I feel like the way she poses brings power, she has elegance, her tail thing is cute, and kind of a pig face? It's iconic it's confident and I'm here for that. I admit I forget about stantler alot, and she basically is just a deer, but everytime I see the way she stands and poses it'd definitely a serve.

Stantler is the opposite side of the same coin Noctowl is on. Fantasy medieval entity that arrives in the woods to give you a prophecy abiut being the chosen one snd takes you to elder Wyrdeer who gives key items for the quest
She gives airport chic, like, she gives that one woman who’s obviously on her way to a business meeting, but she has a stylist and she has a makeup artist. She’s too busy to keep them around all the time, but she is in constant correspondence with them. Her stylist has sort of curated a go-to sort of simple, easy to put on, easy to take off, sort of wardrobe that she uses everywhere she goes because a businesswoman of this level requires.. an image! I mean, th-that’s just the unfortunate way that we treat women in the world is, like, we are constantly keeping them to these high high standards, but, she does it gracefully - um, she’s learned specific makeup techniques from her makeup artist as well. She doesn’t get her makeup done, she has her makeup artist come in and collaborate with her on how to create an easy-to-do, business-ready, business-APPROPRIATE, um, makeup look. She’s clean. She’s fresh. She’s elevated. And she’s always one step ahead.

I love Stantler for a similar reason to Noctowl. They have that nice brown palette, real forest animal inspiration, and a touch of mystery. You'd find them deep in the forest in a slant of moonlight, share a knowing glance, and move along. They don't want to be on stage, showing off. Their purpose lies elsewhere. Also they both have cool headgear.

i really like the direction you went in this one. with the large number of mons in the normal type, it makes sense to focus on uniqueness (and CNT) to really decide on who reaches that mother icon status.
Im so glad that at least spring Deerling and Sawsbuck got their flowers. I think that all of the deerlings are low girlypop/high okay! at minimum just cause of how cute they are and how iconic they are for having seasonal differences. but i can understand that uniqueness being a double edge sword when they dont have a lot to differentiate them with pre- evolution. I also really hope people stop underestimating Arboliva. She had potebtial mother written all over her
I feel like Stantler’s thing is that it’s so on the EDGE of being fun spooky vibes, but it’s just cut off enough by being just a little too normal that it throws you.
If it was made today there’s no way it wouldn’t have been ghost or psychic, the Pokémon company just didn’t have enough VISION in Gen 2

I wanna make the case for Obstagoon as Mother. Hear me out: in a way, gender is less a spectrum and more a circle. (It's really a constellation, but shhh.)
Masculinity taken to a T becomes so campy, so outrageous, so extra that it approaches the frilliness, playfulness, flirtatiousness, and artistry of girlypop (re Mega Swampert who isn't Mother but is at least okay). Obstagoon has gelled that hair, filed those nails, perfected that walk, and leads tongue first. Obstagoon has devil-may-care nerve, and black and white is one of the (if not the) chicest color combinations.
Obstagoon certainly leans masc, but he reimagines and rightfully expands the category of girlypop beyond pink, fluffy, and supportive. He's 120%. He's done poppers. He's the way he is because of Avril Lavigne. His signature move is literally screaming. And therefore, Obstagoon will always be our dark Mother.

The way I felt so seen with this video! Kecleon in design def just okay but in how she’s introduced in the game as an invisible wall and in Pokémon go just kinda showing up randomly at certain pokestops gives it at least Girlypop territory if not mother.
