03:50 it would be a ''gland'' or ''grommet'' to put the data cable through 😆 .... the pi and fan are an interesting and unexpected inclusion, thanks for highlighting!
@@homesteadingkosher1005 new product launch coming on Monday it’s a massive upgrade! Stay tuned for our video 8pm 🕗
I've had one for about 5 weeks and the quality is great, it was good to see the internals.
That was a really good, informative video. Compare that to the first review you did and it just shows how much time and effort you put into these videos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot!
Nice design... Cool LED RBG color.. Great simple installed. Thumb up!! Cheer!
This man changes his ev chargers faster than some people change their socks.
We have 2 EV’s. For 7 years, we have just used the portable EVSE’s that came with the cars. Just a regular 120 volt outlet.
@@hjeffwallace this is interesting, that you used the charger that came with the car for so long. I was thinking whether that was feasible since the charger is very low power if I am not mistaken, and charging times will be in the double digit hours?
@@hjeffwallace Me too, and I park in the street and have the cable out my second floor window!
😂
Good to see you scoring the amour wire with a junior hacksaw and then wanging them free - just as I was taught 50+ years ago! If you are using a brass compression gland
then just 'wind' the inner sheath at a slight angle in the direction of the 'twist' and the taper part then just slides in. Easy. I used to be able to do these with my eyes shut, I did so many!
I like the idea of rejecting heat, I had this idea long time ago which I mentioned in comments on one of your videos.
Thank you so much for sharing such latest and need of the hour knoweldge.
Another great video, thank you, if all goes well I should have one installed soon.
That looks like a nice unit and would consider fitting one of these..great vid!
Loved the cable tie bag tip. I’m a telecoms installer. Done this for 30 years …. So many noobs slice the top of bag… 😜
Just think somewhere Cory is wrestling with loft insulation 😆.
so right! 😂😂😊
Nah. He's busy with a can of pringles...
Interesting video. Looks a real neat product. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i can confirm the reactivness of the support team to all the querys i had before ordering one and modifying my order on the run
I actually build these in my work place, it's so good to see them working and doing such a good job
DM me if you can do a cash deal on the qt. wink, wink
That’s so cool, what company do you work for
A thousand holes later on the wall of Jordans house.... Interesting engineering using a Pi. Allows for a heck of a lot of possibilities. As an instrumentation guy I I had a chuckle at your comment of a little gadget connector block. I've now ordered an ergostrip.
Watched the entire video...even when located in the U.S.
GREAT personable presentation!
Hi, when you were charging you left the cable coiled round the charger, I was told by my installer not to do this! I’ve got an Anderson with the 8.5m cable and unravelling the whole lot when I park the car close is a PITA. Do I need to or can I leave the excess wrapped around the charger like you.
Many thanks
Do you have a link to the extra long bit holder on your drill?
Awesome bit of kit! Although will take something special to beat the Zappi!
On an off note do you have a link for your safety glasses ?
Great video - thanks. That tip about cutting the bag of cable ties in the middle had me facepalming. The number of times I've picked up cable ties off the floor.....
Good video. I'm looking for an alternative to a Zappi as they are currently on a long back order. My worry, is whether Hypervolt customer service will decrease as demand for their product increases ?
Be good to see a comparison table of all chargers showing, cost, features and ease of use. Don't know where this compares with the Zapi which I would have thought was your preference
We are currently pulling this together as it's been requested a few times and there are quite a few differences.
La estética del cargador hypervolt esta muy bonito! buen video.
Muchas gracias Keis! Para nosotros es algo muy importante!
I’d recommend not placing those grub screws on the paving slabs under your work area, particularly when near pebbles. One inadvertent flick with the cable and those screws could disappear instantly and be very hard to find. I speak from experience. I temporarily store small components in a dedicated screw cap container to keep the safe and easy to find later when required.
Hi, what size of EV ultra cable would you recommend for this charger?
Great vlog, not an electrician so didn’t understand most of the terminology but very interesting.
Great video. Morning all. Probably a question that’s been raised and asked before, but is there any safety reason why the charging cable cannot just be left neatly wrapped around the unit, facing down. So basically it’s not held within the holster?
Great review mate 👏😎
great video and totally agree that customer service is King
Just about to buy a zappi! That is a nice charger .
Not fastening the lid of a screw carrier box is a lot funnier.
Nice install! Wouldn't mind seeing an infra-red test on that Pi's processor. Awsome bit of kit tho!
I'm on my 2nd Raspberry Pi (Pi 4, w/8GB Ram) , I hope yours holds up well, since it is a dedicated use it should, mine not so much...great vid...peace
Jordan, I'd love for you to review a Smappee charger soon. Been installing this brand for a few months now and it can do a lot more than this one (and looks much neater). Keep up the good work. Really like the channel.
I'll check it out!
Highly useful video man...love from India
Another great vid..👍
Your videos are always factual and informative, this morning it was going to be Zappi all the way but after watching this it will be Hypervolt!
Thanks for taking the time to post this :-)
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed the video
Tks, solid info. Especially the CT idea (available via Wi-Fi if distant?).
going to see how many arms and legs now :-)
I'm currently stuck between two chargers either the above hypervolt or the Zappi. We are also having solar and battery installed next month so would want the charger to integrate with both of these. Which would be your recommendation.
Many thanks Ross....
I've been telling people that tie-wrap trick for years, so so handy!
Are there any concerns about having the charger cable dangling rather than plugged into a holder like the Zappi does?
Thinking of things like sea air corrosion etc, as we live 1 road back from the seafront in Blackpool so get the prevailing westerly winds blowing in off the Irish Sea. Although the front of the house is facing away from the sea, the windows do still get covered in sea spray during stormy weather.
WOW! a raspberry pi inside?! 😳 BRILLIANT! love rpi's! whack in sd, connect keyb/mouse/hdmi, plug in... BOOM! one fully working mini pc!
the whole thing looks ace! loads of them going in methinks!
yes and the slower the customer services will take to answer.
Hi Jordan, another great video. Shame it doesn't have RCD.
Nice stuff, easy fix 👍
Any options for the mains cable to be routed behind the unit? So all cables are hidden.
9:00 Need something like that. Got 25A main circuit braker and main consumption delinquents are the electric stove, washing mashine, my sons game PC and my Smart Fortwo 451 electric drive. Every time I charge my car and some of the to other appliances is turned on circuit braker makes it's duty.
How does it compare to the zappi? Does the overvoltage have a ct for solar also like the zappi. I like to be able to monitor my charge rate and have the ability to programme to only charge from solar. Also if you have solar does the unit deduct the cost of the solar supply or does it simply just give a charge value not taking into account solar supply?
Which ultra EV cable would you recommend for this type of application?
Its the return of the Swiss cheese brick wall, with new additional holes! You are going to have to get a mason to fix all those holes at some point so the house doesn't fall down! 😁😁👍 I am surprised that they don't have heat sinks on the Pi as it can get very hot as well. Here in Texas we have to have them on ones that are outside to keep them from having issues.
I know this is a year down the line but my Zappi has failed, annoyingly 6 months after the warranty ended. My energi don’t want to know. In terms of installing, if I got one of these, given I have a Zappi in place at the moment is it safe to assume that fitting a hypervolt would be easier? I’m guessing that all the gubbins for the Zappi already being in place would help?
Hey Jordan. Get video and nice looking product.
At 17:50 you mention setting your tariff rate. I am struggling with chargers that allow a schedule to be set for time of day charging say Octopus Go from 00:30 to 04:30 but only allow one tariff to be entered 5p for this time. However if charged outside this time can only refer to the lower rate even if the rate is 15p. It’s will give an inaccurate indication of charging costs albeit kWh might be correct.
Does this charger or others around know allow rates to be applied to different schedules?
Yes @KeithWilson, you can set the rate based on a time of day you'd like to use for it, and you can set as many rates as you like! Soon we will release automated support for Octopus Go, which means you no longer need to do anything.
The cable-tie tip was great actually. I of course have cable-ties pouring out of the bag.
Jordan, can you please add a link for the armoured / exterior data cable you use please. Thank you.
Another excellent video.
Hi I’m just about to buy a bmw i3s - best charger in your opinion ?. BP pulse is the charger bmw is linked with . Any advice would be appreciated
Cheers ian
My only concern with tethered cables is what happens if there is an issue with the cable itself? I have not had many problems with my home charger over the past four years though it has been upgraded but i have gone through two cables.
Question please, do you rate the charger better than the zappi 2? About to get my first charger installed.... Thanks Pete
If it helps, we certainly do!
I have a zappie 2 and it's great.
It needs a plug park. And a better way of storing the cord like a compact retractible air hose/extension cord like they have in workshops. Also if the plug was dropped in some dirt or got wet you would want some spray cleaner and a micro fiber cloth to clean it. These would be nice to be at hand in the unit, and could also be sold as consumables for extra revenue and would fit into the wasted space in the housing.
Great vid. Quick tech question - can you connect the CT clamp to the consumer tail in the CCU rather than run it to the meter cabinet? Assuming only one CCU in the property of course. Thanks!
Yeah you can, we do it that way quite often
Could I use an telephone alarm cable for the signal wire instead of a cate5
Blue and white was traditionally line one in POTS (Plain Old Telephone System), so good choice!
Is this just for the UK market? or do they have a USA version, or is this an International model for compatible models anywhere?
Whats the best home charger for a model 3?
Because of artisan electrics decided to get one installed. I love it
Looks ace. Can I apply for the OZEV grant if I buy one of these and have it fitted buy an electrician?
The main thing to shop after reasonable price and charge (cable length - car may change so think about future) needs is warranty - when I purchased my ev wall box in '15 USA market leader was Siemens with 3 years. Now, many Manufacturers have equalled
Juicebox - 3 yrs
ChargePoint - 3 yrs
Etc.
We also offer 3 years as standard!
Can cable entry be at the rear of the unit so that cables are not visible?
Does the charging cable really just hang in mid-air? The dock on the Zappi looks much neater!
They come with a dock you can fix to the wall but I didn’t want to have it in my case
I like the fact that there is a pi in there! It would be interesting to modify it so that you control it instead of Hypervolt. Hardwired Ethernet is great too!
So good to hear that someone is producing a charger that isn’t hassle. I'm on my second BMW/Mini charger in 6 months but both have given constant error messages and BMW support has been very poor. The Mini Cooper S Electric is brilliant but it’s ruined by its charger.
We'd love to help you out, please get in touch!
@@hypervoltev It’s really kind of you to offer help but it looks like I'm saddled with the BMW charger until they either refund or sort it. It’s so annoying that I come home, plug it in and usually get an error message. Eventually it goes and starts to charge, sometimes half an hour later. I've asked BMW for somebody who really knows their stuff to come out but instead they fob me off to the installer. It’s such a shame because we love the Mini Electric, it's so much fun. I live in France, not sure if you’re over here yet ?
On Cat5 cable, the data should be on the green and orange pairs. The blue and brown are reserved for PoE.
How do you know when it’s done..? Seems the red light should be on when charging then turn to green when done
Genuinely interested in buying one, and I need to have an EV charger installed.
However, I'll wait for a review that isn't a sponsored advert.
Hmm, in a completely impartial view, this is a pretty solid product and we'd love to help you get one! Just heard it from a friend..
Try the Wallbox which also has a raspberry pi computer and an excellent app
It's supposed to be declared isn't it if its an ad. Maybe he just got it free from them for this ad. To be fair it does look as good as a zappi and cheaper.
@@Lewis_Standing it is declared on his video, but not to RUclips.
@@simonnzd be
great cable tie tip
So how much was a total cost in charge
Them hypervolts looks really decorative very interesting but will it be a game changer like zappi chargers
Unbiased view: YES!
@@hypervoltev 👌🏻 You have my vote! It might be time to change my current charger!
Good idea
@@hypervoltev Is it ocpp 1.6 compliant?
@@dti-21 No, the world's most terrible protocol. We use fully proprietary, to allow for sub 50 millisecond connectivity to our devices. When you watch Jordan update LED Brightness, image that actually goes over AWS. Hypervolt offers everything you need, dashboards, apps, fleet support etc.
Hi, that is very informative. I am already Email Hypervolt for more details if the product is comptatible with my car.
Is there a Hypervolt IPO coming up soon? ;) Love the glowing review.
2030! Hold on tight, we're on it!
@@hypervoltev Oh hey guys! Keep me updated! 😂
Which makes would you recommend, Hypervolt or Zappi?
Sorry Jordan I'm with others who say you should attach a wooden mounting board on the wall if you're going to fit many more. Renting or not respect the wall please. Love the videos and keep 'em coming. Regards Col.
He did say in an earlier video that he had permission to be doing it on the rental.
Would you recommend one of these over a Tesla Gen 3 wall connector?
Looks like a great product, is there a monthly
Subscription? Also Web says “Tariff/scheduled charging mode”, you didn’t mention this. Is this connection to energy provider like Octopus Energy?
Nope, just the product! And yes, you can add your energy tariff and select settings from your energy provider.
If I already have an ev charger installed, could I get a local spark to swap out my old one for one of these or could I do it myself. I’ve got an EO pro mini 2 with earthing rods.
Please don't do this yourself!
Great charger and great video, thanks Jordan!! I'd be playing with the LEDs all day! 😂
How many chargers can you fit to your wall before the bricks crumble away? Maybe you should be in the guiness book of records for the most amount of different chargers fitted to one wall over a period of time.... 😂
It’s like Blackpool illuminations 😃 I live in Blackpool, love your channel
😆👍
Your cable nipple is actually a grommet - we old timers used a lot of 'em back in the 1970s 😀
Love the channel Jordan but why don't you fit a wood patress to that poor wall looks like an aero !!!
mmm brick and mortar flavoured aero... yummy! 😂😂😂
Looks like a great charger. What can actually be done with the Rpi by the home owner?
Improvements feedback to the product team: have the charge cable finish winding at the top and have a neat position to place the socket. E.g. closer to Andersen A2 design.
Also, why not have the house total load setting as a software feature rather than the rotor knob inside
I'd prefer to have physical ways to change settings on the charger. If you do it via app etc., the device will basically end up useless if the company that makes the charger goes bust, or they just choose to not maintain the software after a couple of years.
Great video, very informative! Seriously considering a hypervolt for my home charging, but I do want to install solar panels and a battery in the near future (especially with the current energy price hike!). What’s your opinion on how easy it would be to set up a solar and battery setup at home with a hypervolt? Is it simple enough or would taking the hit on a Zappi be a better option? Love the hypervolt but need to consider future-proofing. Cheers!
Thanks! Solar integration is already part of the Hypervolt system now so that will work fine!
@@artisanelectrics What about a battery to store the solar energy or the off peak energy on with Intelligent Octopus for example? I’ve heard a Hypervolt might struggle with this?
@@grantjones2232 We’d be happy to run you through our feature set and products. 🙏🏼
Just had my Zappi installed and couldn’t be happier works great with battery and solar
Hi there, I’ve been viewing some of your videos relating to domestic EV Charge Points as I am considering purchasing a Tesla Model 3. I am on a tight budget and so I was wondering which charge point you would recommend between a TESLA Gen 3 (£449) or any of the others that you have tested, like the HyperVolt? I’d appreciate your perspective on this.
Which software do you use for your certifications?
This thing sounds like a really bad idea... that RasPi has a rather high base power consumption already (somewhere around 10W), so the fan will have to run even in our colder climates, which costs money, is a huge invitation for moisture buildup and for insects/ants/.. nesting inside. For an outdoors device you'd normally want IP54 or better. This thing will need cleaning out and checking for corrosion several times a year (except if you want to replace it regularly..)
But hey, it's got a ton of LEDs, so it has to be good..
(and I'm not even getting started about this being cloud connected and the vendor having access to my charging data and possibly others, since the RasPi becomes a regular part of your home network and can be used and abused for anything)
Also, an EV charger should not need OTA capability, as there are no regular changes to the charging standards. Updating the firmware on a charger should be a once-every-few-years thing if it doesn't work right when you buy a new car, but that's all. Doing those updates manually via bluetooth is perfectly fine.
This thing has a lot of shiny but useless features on its advertising brochure, but fails at the most basic requirements.
Appreciate your comments! We are IP54 rated, and now going for full IP66 in our next version. Baseline consumption is a lot less than 10W fortunately, and there is no moisture build up or space for insects or ants to get in as you say. Firmware updates should never be manual, that's something we'll defend to our grave and one of the biggest problems with other products. OTA is quite crucial actually.
It fortunately fails at none of the basic requirements at all, but granted it's hard to please everyone!
@@hypervoltev I wouldn’t touch an EVSE with auto pushed OTA updates with a ten foot barge pole!....... Who wants suddenly changing behaviour without any warning or my express permission. OTA stream of new bugs provided for free. No way to revert back when it all goes tits up with an update. And please don’t tell me your software is so good it has no bugs..... All software ever produced has bugs. Thats a fact. Also, the fan is not a good feature, it’s negative and a downright liability. The fact that a fan is needed in such a device is indicative of a less than optimal design. The internal dissipation should be so minuscule such that a fan and/or case ventilation is simply not required. The only significant product heating should be when mounted in direct sun and/or high ambient. The components and design should be able to withstand that and maintain reliability in a well designed product. Peter.
Interesting bit of British kit, I do love an LED as well - already ordered the Zappi (which seems to have production delays)
Never too late to change and upgrade! You save about 200 plus too!

I have placed an order for the power wall is 7495 is this a good price but i would like a universal charger Can you advise
I have 14 days to cancel
Great video Jordan, Charger ticks all the boxes, but can you turn the led lights off when charging?
Also a little surprised the rear box is flat at the top, rounded might of been a wiser option. Nevertheless it looks to be one of the better options
Hi, investors one of these chargers, and yes the LED brightness can be adjusted/switched off in app. Waiting for my car, but the charger looks good and customer service great.
Is the cooling fan sucking or blowing? It looks like it's sucking cold air in from the top and blowing it out of the bottom, which doesn't sound ideal what with hot air rising :)
Hello 👋 really great insulation i am new to the channel and all your videos are really helpful as in September this year i will be starting my new journey on becoming an electrician starting level 2 diploma in electrical installation i really cant wait to get started. I would like to come to a few of your installs. can I give you a little tip you should have blank out your number plate on your car as you never know who will get your details.
lol! Your enthusiasm for leds is a bad as mine, I too love a good led display. Zappi still leads the field in terms of ease of installation in my opinion, no need for an external RCD. Also, rear or bottom cable entry options.
Internal RCD being released in just under 2 months fortunately, removing the last interesting thing Zappi does that we don’t yet. No worries, on it!
@@hypervoltev That's great, the easier they are to install the better. I like your display by the way, I am as sucker for RGB lighting.
@@cbcdesign001 You will be pleased to know the LEDs are also vastly improving in the next product iteration to much higher density!
Check out the Sync EV
@@hypervoltev I prefer them without internal A-type RCDs! Then if cables are buried in the wall you don't have two RCDs in-line.
Just quick question, how much would it cost to install this bit of kit all in including Labour, just estimated cost thanks 🙏
Just had a quote for one of these. They have quoted for a ‘small RCD board’ at £65 with the quote. Is this needed?
