Hi as an electrical lecturer at a college, the issue is staffing, one, colleges have poor pay which does not encourage staff to join, two, finding good lecturers is another factor, being a sparks and teaching is a whole different world, a lot of good lecturers are leaving as they have become very frustrated with the system, the new lecturers that do start tend to not hang around very longer when they realize that they have to spend most weekends and holidays doing paperwork such as marking, and the amount of stress there is in teaching, I love teaching and the rewards you see when students achieve, While Ruben is waiting for a place I can help him out with training material he can self study so he is not behind if it helps, also will be able to give a bit of support online.

Would you also advise he does full time rather than pt.. ?? I say that cause it’s only like 2.5 full days and he can do the rest at work . After all u learn more on tools than college it would realy give him the edge and speed up his time in education.

The cable stripper tool is brilliant, but make sure you use it the right way around to prevent it slipping off (will just make sure you make a cleaner cut as you do the first 'twist' cut of the insulation.)
If you look at 13:26 , if you twist it clockwise, the tool will pull itself together whereas the way its being done above, the tool can be pulled open due to the cutting force.
I have no idea if I explained that well enough, but they are a brilliant tool :)
Edit: knocking in the earth rod with a hammer, if you put a nut on the end first, you are then hitting the nut rather than damaging the end of the thread meaning no tidy up work :)

Apprentice placement issues, what we used to do is anytime the local colleges were short on placements we would get the exam schedule and the module plan and actually just teach them on site and have the apprentices read up at home. By the time they were in their placement they were already ahead of the class and the units, plus a couple of the colleges would allow them to just go in and sit the unit exams as a £50 exam is easier to get a placement for than a bum on a seat on day release.
Currently though it's lack of employers around here, and the colleges don't like taking unemployed people on because it effects the grant the government give if those training are unable to finish Level 3 and the AM2. Something like 10% for the end of first year, 25% for end of second and the rest paid out on completion, it sucks but it's to keep people to the end and fully trained rather than a revolving door of first and second years that leave without decent knowledge and skills while a college makes bank.

Did someone say we have an issue in the apprentice system? :)
We have a massive issue of not enough employers and over subscribed college places. Many in college without employers.
Lots of lecturers working really hard in impossible circumstances to help. Especially during Covid.
Sadly until people experience this is not important. Its not a sexy part of the industry and the hard truth is not enough are really interested. To the point Elex dont want unemployed young people attending.
We all turn our backs and the fire burns behind us.
The result sadly is exactly what you and Rueben are experiencing.

The last year I was in the UK there were 20 kids in one class, lecturers told me the interest was now in the Computer industry, so there will be a shortage at some point, maybe now there's more interest to get on the tools and do some manual work.

A little story for you all. The 1st time i ever saw a small consumer unit in a meter box was when i was watching Jordan from Artisan Electrics install a consumer unit in a meter box. He even posted it on you tube for everyone to see. Then would you believe it, about 1 year after he made a new video turning his nose up at people who put consumer units inside the meter box.

Haha that’s actually true, I learnt the hard way from that video that I shouldn’t have done it. Haven’t done it since! You live and learn.

@@artisanelectrics I'm not going to lie, i actually thought i was a great idea at the time. I have never done it myself but that is purely because it was never needed in my installations and then i found out you are not supposed to do it. At least you now know i am a loyal viewer.

I am about to have a charger installed and have been told they will fit an A Type RCBO in my meter box. Is this acceptable or not? Thanks

@@maxrhodes1213 The DNO + suppliers say no it is not acceptable but as far as i know, there is no regulation against it.
The story is that the supplier can ask for the consumer unit to be removed if they can not upgrade any of there own equipment in the meter box. (In the future)
Or in extreme situations 'apparently' they can disconnect your power until it is removed. (Personally i would take that one with a pinch of salt)
I never install a consumer unit in the meter box because it is a bit of a grey area.
But like i said, no one has ever shown me a regulation saying that his is not acceptable.

How does installing two hypervolts work? Is it better to use the easee charger if you want two?

The tool of the day link seems to be wrong?
I thought it would be that blade that Lee showed, but it seems it's some vacuum drill bit thing?

Hi Jordan, great video as always however, it would be nice to know with 2 EV chargers installed if there is anything different required such as 100amp fuse up to 150 ? Or was it simply 2 dedicated 32amp fuses and an earth rod ? I have a Tesla coming (75kw ) and I already have the smaller Renault Zoe (42Kw). Unlikely I would install a 2nd charger but it would be good to know I could 😎

Great video as always! How do you guys calculate maximum demand when installing EV chargers? I'm finding it a nightmare to calculate realistic figures from the guidance in bs7671

They take 32a. Always upgrade a domestic main supply too 100a main fuse and 25mm tails and you should be fine in most households. If unsure use current monitoring.
