Nicely done dude. In the process of building my first Team associated 8.2e factory kit, but wasn't sure how much meshing is needed with the gear. Now I know. thanks
Duc Ly No problem man! Glad I could give some insight! Feel free when your done building it to post up some pictures on my Facebook page, if you have one! I would love too see it!
I agree with the do it by hand method but this isn't a bad starting point. Really you want the tiniest bit of play on the spur gear and the pinion. You want the ramped part of both gears touching evenly which is just a wee bit off of fully mashed together. There's some other RUclips vids that zoom in to show this well
Friend, please help me, I'm new to car modeling, I built an onroad car, with a 64pitch pinion with 40T, and a 64pitch 96T spur gear, I use a hobywing 10bl120a esc, the futaba 3pv radio has the end point at 100%, the 10.5T Brushless engine for 1/10 cars in the few laps I drove, the spur gear damaged all the teeth, how can I be doing so that this doesn't happen?
hi i have a 15tooth steel pinion gear with a 48tooth steel spur gear in my buggy.question is that the width of the pinion gear is wider than that of the spur. Therefore,do i sit the pinion in the centre of the spur gear or should it be flush completely with the spur? thanks for any help rendered! cheers!
Im currently trying this method. Should there be any backlash (Free play) even minute on this gearing? Im doing this on an axial yeti. I noticed when i set the motor with the paper then tightened the motor clamp it tightened the mesh so it was way to tight. I then set it with slight backlash, then tightened the motor clamp and it tightened up so the backlash disappeared. This should be correct im thinking???
+kato4fitty Sounds about right. Sometimes the motor likes to move when you tighten the nuts or bolts down. best thing to do is just try to hold the motor still wile your tightening it down.
Cool so I did it right for my RC car. I just dont know if there is suppose to be grease between them? I know one of my RC cars has grease where the pinion is but the new one I installed didnt have grease is it really needed?
Technically their shouldn't be any grease on those two gears. the reason for that is because if their is grease on the pinion and spur gears theirs a much higher chance of dirt sticking to them causing them to wear out prematurely. The only gears that should ever have grease on them are in the transmission case itself, and differentials.
I have a very important question I'm new to the RC hobby I bought a Everest 10 rock crawler it has a brass pinion and it's wore out did I mesh it wrong by the way I added some wheel weights so I don't know if that made it wear out faster
I'm also new I bought a 2wd nitro rustler stripped spur yesterday and the spare it came with is a little bit bigger and I dont want to start it and strip it right out again as it's way to tight against the pinion
But technically you would need thicker paper the larger the teeth, I destroyed a few motors from REALLY tight meshed gears using this method, but they were all 1.0mod or larger!
I had spur gear replaced at the shop and 1,5 rides later it was bald again! they used the paper trick too but what else could cause this damage on such short time?
Can you show me how to place my Spur gear and my Pinion gears with the slipper clutch and that for me cause I keep Burning holes in my Spur gear. They are Plastic. I have a E-Maxx Truck Brushless and I have NOT had NO Fun with it this year. :(I am Very sad about this whole thing. Please make a Video for me. I will watch EVERYBIT Of it. They say to Tighten the nut and then turn it back a Quarter of a Turn. Geeeze I will never get this running right. I am so down with out it Can you help me? Will you help me? Please? I have a 65 Plastic Big Gear, and a Metal Gear from the motor at 14 teeth. I also have a 17 teeth gear for the motor as well.
Hey, I've acquired a stock Wraith Spawn RTR. I'm changing it over to a Crawler. Installing a 35 turn motor. What else do you suggest? If it's a pinion change, do you have a video for it?
+healeyt i don't have anything on the wraith at the moment. But a 35t is a good motor for it from my understanding. As far as pinion go im not sure, but i bet if you checked out rccrawler.com and search a tad bit threw their forum, you would find exsacly what your looking for.
Thanks. FYI, as per several forums that have replied to that question, it's optimal to install 18+88 pinion and Spur in a Crawler when using a 35T motor.
RC Overload Awesome! I've only recently gotten into the RC hobby and have focused mainly on 1/10 touring cars, but I run into gear slipping a lot in my HPI Sprint 2 Flux. Thanks again for the tip!!
Yea I feel the same way sometimes. luckily I have been using this technique for a wile now and never had a problem. Only once on the mini revo when I did it by eye sight since I was in a rush...well needless to say I needed another gear shortly after that....lol
I do mine by eye now lol I like to see a little wiggle but I'm super ADD and hyper picky how my stuff is build every nut and gear must be set up just right lol I'm the guy if you don't know how to build a Rc I'm the kind if guy you won't to build you truck lol body's no paint no I'm shit at that but I build with my heart and passion
Having metal to metal action can result in the whole axel going into the engine breaking as plastic can snap/grind down but metal will break things if you understand what I mean. I also learnt that my chassis was bent and wasn't ment to be bent so I bent it back straight and the gears seem to align, still need to test it out.
I wouldn’t recommend the paper in the video it tends to be very thin. Use a quality inkjet paper and you will have the proper thickness for gears up to module 1. Module 1.5 and up you may need to double up the paper where you don’t have a fixed gear assembly.
Sorry but I don't understand the videos purpose but is there anyway to fix the spur gear with two teeth thingy are brken? Like the middle it broken but not fully came off
I'm having a hard time to mesh the spur n pinion on my vaterra twin hammers v2,cuz the pinion is blocking the motor bolt so i need to remove the pinion to access the bolt
Thank you! 9 yrs old and still helping!
my dad used to own a hobby shop and has been in modeling for over 40 years and this is exactly how he just told me to do it.
This trick really helped me after cleaning my gears, now it runs smooth again! Thank you!
Bloody Ricers Glad it helped!
Don't use paper. Just do it by feel. Push the motor towards the spur and rotate the spur until there's a little bit of play. Boom! Done!
On my bomber it has a/b switch wich i know is for a gear shifter but what if you ran 2 speed controls one 🐌 the other 🐇 an used a/b to control it
Thank you so much this immediately resolved my problem with my new motor

Tks for this nice vid ! This paper is sometime too thin, then I always use glassy paper, it always work like a charm ;-)

Do you have to take the motor out to change the pinion?
What are different 24t & 35t pinion gear ? If I will change? Or I need change something more to get more faster?
Is there supposed to be some play between

Thanks I never thought about dirt getting stuck on it but it makes sense since the cap isnt the greatest cap in the world it has gaps
I'll try that in abit

Is the redcat .6 mod gears same as a standard 48p? Thanks Matt
wat pinion should i get for a onroad 1/10 touring car with a 12.5t motor
But technically you would need thicker paper the larger the teeth, I destroyed a few motors from REALLY tight meshed gears using this method, but they were all 1.0mod or larger!
I've got a question. How close should my pinion gear be to my spur gear and how tight should your spur gear be?
Great Thanks for the Tip!
Can I use this technique for Nitro Engines?
yes.
do u mess with 1/18. any tips for the ecx torment 1/18 4wd
i need help whats a good spur and pinion gear for axial wraith spawn
I had spur gear replaced at the shop and 1,5 rides later it was bald again! they used the paper trick too but what else could cause this damage on such short time?
motor too powerfull for the gears
I️ know this is late but loosen the slipper clutch
I love this tip!
Love you dude
hello i need help how type oil on spur gear and pinion gear ?? Or nothing oil? thanks for fast answer
no oil. only put grease in the transmission.
Ok thanks
Thank you for the video, Very good technique, very useful.

Is the same on all rc cars, or does it differ from vehicle to vehicle?
+Nathan Z for the most part its all the same.
Tanks for your help. You solved my problem..
No problem. Glad I could help you out!

nice tip! any thoughts on if this technique would hold on a touring car?
+Jonathan Vernon This tip should work for anything really as long as you can gain easy access to the gears.

Great stuff love video
+12DOORF Fiteveryday
Thank you!
Good stuff man!
What size pinion an spur you have there?
Ginco Lol I just was curious what he is running in his rig. I know it has nothing to do with mesh
Paper beats rock n scissor in this case!! Lol 😂
perfect man thank you
Great bro
Thank you
Check out this trick
You know I can hear it when someone has there gear mesh wrong and it drives me mad lol I won't to kick there Rc lol I'm not going to but I think it

Thats how it should be! If you enjoy what you do, then you should poor your heart and energy into it!
True , yah it's not about neat toys anymore now it's lock at what my passion and my two hands have made
What does doing this do.
Cool vid I'll try that
Yea it was a little trick I learned a long time ago, and I am glade you liked it!
I have melted two spur gears from incorrect mesh
Im on my 5th now in 2 months.
Probably the knowledge from this video will help.
Alexandros Sotiropoulos look into getting a metal spur.
I have bought one. I will wait for it to arrive to see how it goes.
Having metal to metal action can result in the whole axel going into the engine breaking as plastic can snap/grind down but metal will break things if you understand what I mean. I also learnt that my chassis was bent and wasn't ment to be bent so I bent it back straight and the gears seem to align, still need to test it out.
Thanks mate.
That actually looked a little tight to me I just do it by feel
Worked

Hi i hv summit 16 n 3s 1400...wht spur n pinion shld i use?
Thanks for the video I subbed to your channel
+Jimi G RCrazy (RC Crazy) Thanks man! Muchly appreciated!
Right
And for a 4x4
Tight
Yes that will work but I feel as if it’s a little ight
Paper is not a great choice, how thick is your paper, .002_.003_.004 inches🤔
Well, that is a lot of difference in mesh🤨
Ups
hello please put subtitles in Spanish to your videos I liked but I need the translation thanks
Or you could learn English.
I'll make you a deal, you teach me Spanish, I'll teach you English. Deal?
Justin Lyman don’t be rude
@@SPIXZY49 did that come out as rude? It wasn't meant to be rude, I really would love to learn Spanish.
Is he stoned or what it sounded like he was stoned
nope, that was a long long time ago.. probably just quiet and a little camera shy as that was near the beginning of my show.
you kinda look like peter parker n spiderman lol
+Meelo weedhead Haha I guess a little bit. lol
😁
NEVER DO THIS!!!
To me you remind me of mr bean lol no offence
I've herd that before. lol
Sorry but I don't understand the videos purpose but is there anyway to fix the spur gear with two teeth thingy are brken? Like the middle it broken but not fully came off
may I ask you a question?
what is gear mesh
Does this work on a 2 speed transmission truck?
It works on anything with a pinion gear and spur gear setup. so as long as it has it yes.
I'm having a hard time to mesh the spur n pinion on my vaterra twin hammers v2,cuz the pinion is blocking the motor bolt so i need to remove the pinion to access the bolt
