Awesome tips. Being an automotive tech I've got tools for things like this however they don't work for small scale vehicles lol. I actually just came in from bashing on my 1/16 e revo, flipped her s few times and actually heard the gear mesh change, apparently I've got an uneven spur gear and wore it out a bit. Oh well, time to dig into the parts box and do some replacing.
Do you have a video about lipo batteries for beginners? I'm looking to get into the hobby would like to know the safe way of having lipo's before I make that step
Take another look at his videos. There definitely are lipo videos. Don't let them worry you too much. Just do some reading and make sure you charge and maintain them properly, they're definitely worth the extra power and speed.
just dont loeave them unattended when charging, if ur not going to use ur rc car for a few days then leave your battery at 50% charge (commonly refered to as a storage charge).
Your videos are awesome. I am a total beginner, I am a static modeler and I decided to purchase a traxxas 4x4 brushed to begin bashing into dynamic. Your videos are helpful and comprehensive even for an Italian like me. Thanks and keep up the good work
This was informative and something I didnt know about being a newb for some reason I this to be more complicated. But with your explanation it seems possible.thx for your time and concern.✌
Thanks for the tips. No one wants to have wear and tear that could have been avoided , I personally would proffer to strip gears rather than burn my.motor out. I bought a rtr car and stripped gear before batter even went flat. Point to all is even when you purchase a rtr you should check to make sure everything is as it should be , including motor mounts and pitch. I'm lucky the pinion was not level with spur so it only smashed the spur on one side. Every tooth is grinded but only half way if that makes sense. Order a handful of pinions and spurs.
thanks for the tips, just got my tamiya tt01e and it stripped the spur gear after it jammed then wheels up on my trousers while i switched it on configuring the controller decided to drill out the motor mount very slightly to get the closer adjustment to grip whats left of the gears got new gears in the post but will be 2 weeks working perfect now with my diff lock set up aswell so i know it works well
How do you manage the spring tension on the nitro spur? I have a bolt that compresses a spring for the slip clutch behind the spur. But my manual says nothing about tension or adjustments.
Ive learned gears last longer going off of leaving no loose points at all ,, alot of times if you adjust to where theres is no binding at all its going to be too loose elsewhere on the gear i prefer looking for points where its too loose and getting it as close as possible if it causes binding elsewhere i just leave it otherwise ur stripping again off a hard launch on a 3s no loose points at all if it causes binding o well
I've tried to adjust my spur/pinion gears many times on my E-Revo 1/16 VXL, but no matter what I do I always end up having one side that's hard to turn and one that skips, it does a clacky grindy noise when I give a burst of throttle
The rustler I have, has a plastic insert between the motor and the housing that won't allow me to adjust the motors position. Do I dremel the locking part off or remove the whole plastic insert or what?
Shit no wonder my Bandit was so loud after I put in 15 to 30 gear set up. I adjusted the mesh before the episode was over. Saved all my gears probably so a big Tanx to you sir.🏁🇺🇲🙏
Well you DO have to grease the actual gear but as for the shaft? I’d advise not to. If for any reason the pinion finds a way to work loose, it’ll wreak havoc on your gearbox which can be expensive depending on what kit you own. It’s one of those areas where you’d feel guilty not putting grease but it’s one where you really shouldn’t.
Depends on which kit you buy but typically, the mesh is set from the factory unless you use an adjustable motor mount, in which case you’d need to do this.
I have a Traxxas Stampede and the Spur Gear moves past the pinion gear to the right and car stops moving, I have tightened it back down, what would cause this, the motor moving?
Without seeing a picture, it’s hard to say and without knowing what scale, one can only assume. A good way to find out is how close together the teeth are to each other. The further apart the teeth are from each other, the more coarse the gear. Assuming it’s 1/10 scale, it’ll likely be either 64P (fine) or 48P (coarse). May want to Google your question and see if anyone else has any info. Good luck dude.
As a mechanic, the general rule of thumb is to lubricate any parts that have to move against each other. This can also apply to your question, EVEN IF you have a “sealed” gearbox! So to answer your question: yes. If not… that’s gonna be one expensive rebuild.
Me looking how to do it after I break it as always... :D I mean it's not entirely true, I got an RTR model, but I never checked for play in the gears... until now... when nearly the entire gear is flattened :/ :D
Check the mesh on your ring gear (the one attached to your differential) and drive gear. The clicking sound could mean a bad mesh there. Being a Traxxas, you’ll be able to find the exact shim needed to fix that issue. Good luck.
is it also possible that the bore that goes inside the motor can wear out the hole cousing metal dust to form around the bolts and screws? i think this happened to me and i am not sure if i should drive it or not
Don’t drive it. At least not until you clean the shaft and wash and dry the pinion bore. If you’re using a pinion that’s held onto a d-shaft with a tiny grub screw, I HIGHLY recommend using some Loctite BLUE thread locker on the grub screw so that it won’t work its way loose while bashing. It’s highly important to get the color right with the thread locker or you’ll end up with a grub screw that’s permanently held in place. Remember: use only blue! There’s other colors that have less bond and can be much more easily removed but blue is the best as it will hold in place for whatever bashing you do and yet still be removed if you need it to be.
Crashing generally shouldn’t unless you’re REALLY aiming to hit something like a wall or barrier. If you’re stripping out after that many laps, I’d recommend checking the mesh after every run. Perhaps in your case it was that you had some screws that worked themselves loose. A little bit of Loctite Blue thread locker will help hold the loose screws in place. Don’t try to use Loctite on plastic though. If you’re still stripping out, even after adjusting the mesh like in this video, then I would consider practicing more to avoid crashing so often.
Hi MY Name is Troy Flanagan i have a 4s kraton with 2400kv motor with 2 mah 5000mah 14.8. 50c Battery And A 5000mah 14.8 100c from a smart spectrum Batterys i just. Watched ur video i found interesting information about the gears mesh and motor my problem my slipper Clutch keeps coming lose Now my gears are stripped and just got it out of shop 2 Days ago had to bring it Back into the THE ower had loosened the Engine so he could take it he had take out the red pole and pole under to get at slipper Clutch the problem was not the slipper Clutch was Already tight its was the gears at THE rear of the Truck they are plastic and look Cheap so my Question to you is should i get. Steel gears or Aluminum gears and tight motor so does not move and about slipper Clutch with plastic GEARS will plastic gears stripped faster then the steel 1s or Aluminum 1s And should i keep the slipper Really tight or a little bit looser i but Truck back in may stayed in the shop for 3 months Because manufactures did Not have the Right parts for and plus the Covid virus did Not help matters then when i got it back Ran Excellent for 7 days THEN slipper Clutch came lose again then back in Shop Again with stripped gears just frustrated with the Truck which is like New i don't Drive it hard do flipps or jumps with it just Drive it on a Diamond and grass when i turn it on i let it sit for 20 seconds before i Even move it check Everything over inside and out. Spray the wheels and Arms on the Truck front And back check All the bolts make sure Everything is tight including wheels Now it WON'T go ibackwards These TRUCKs. Have Trouble with slipper Clutch and gears please respond
First of all, where are you running? Polished concrete will cause a fine dust to appear. Also if you run near a busy road, you’ll have A LOT of dust collecting inside your model after a run. Clean your model out with compressed air and a large paintbrush. If you’re still seeing dust, it may be as a result of the spur gear mesh of perhaps your motor still has some dirt and grit inside. Second, check your spur gear teeth for “flatness”. If your spur teeth look wider that the gaps between them, it’s likely this is where the dust is coming from.
I have a 4s kraton with metal or plastic gears they are way at THE back of the Truck down at the bottom i have to loosen motor pull both poles off the red and slipper Clutch 1 then i can get at the metal or plastic spur there aer 2 which 1 is the plastic 1 and which 1 is the metal 1 and the gears are stripped the plastic 1s right underneath the back of Truck i have to take cover of to see looks like. A deep hole they are in like a bear cave there how much are they in Canada Dollars just iam from Toronto Ontario wondering how much r they in us Dollars

/)_-) The trick works the same way. Material is of little consequence to the process of meshing and if you paid attention, you’d see he showed how to mesh metal gears.
I’m new to all this stuff but the paper method to me should be totally avoided unless you know what gram the paper is, as a printer there is way to many piece of paper to choose from just saying note book paper is a total grey areas as that could of been made out of any paper gram.
I can’t figure out for the life of me why my motor won’t slide back and forth on my slash 2wd even after loosening the motor screws the motor doesn’t want to move whatsoever

i realize it is kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to watch newly released tv shows online?
Awesome! Perfectly explained and to the point. Cool to see the paper trick works for large scale 👍

Thanks man this helped a lot I was going to spend $30 to fix it. Then I saw your video and I was so happy

ditto exactly what i needed, you got my business
Great info vid. I wanted to point out that there are also 8mm size bore for gears as well.
Perfect this is exactly what I was looking for
Cheers, picked up a secondhand drift rc that was absolutely destroying pinion and spur gears after 15 mins of figure 8's

thank you for the gear tip

@@swagpuppycat in my case, it was the rear differential I swapped its ring and pinion gears and added a shim (small plastic ring) behind it

great video i got a question what causes motor jitters ?
Great video!
How do you adjust the spring tension?
Thanks for this video, I just want to ask if it's okay to put a grease in pinion gear?
I am wondering too, was thinking a little white lithium grease would work great. Will try it on my back ordered rc when it gets here.
Is this necessary for a new tc straight out the box?
Straight out of the box I would assume that the experts that have created it made it right
Depends on which kit you buy but typically, the mesh is set from the factory unless you use an adjustable motor mount, in which case you’d need to do this.
What car was featured in this video besides the stampede
Thank you that helped a lot 👍
I watch your videos all the time and when I watch I work on my rc car and I just got a ton of rc parts but I'm grounded so it's killing me
I have a Traxxas Stampede and the Spur Gear moves past the pinion gear to the right and car stops moving, I have tightened it back down, what would cause this, the motor moving?
Lol I set my mesh every time but 6s with a hobbywing system doesn’t play well with plastic spur gears
Very useful
U need more subs bro
I think I got my mesh right now but I think I’ll still have my constant battle of over and undergearing
Do you know what the pinion /spur gear pitch is on a haiboxing protector (12815), also marketed as a bezgar 3?

if your pinion and spur gear are fully enclosed and both metal, should you grease them? Or still too risky incase some dirt gets in there?

Check the mesh on your ring gear (the one attached to your differential) and drive gear. The clicking sound could mean a bad mesh there. Being a Traxxas, you’ll be able to find the exact shim needed to fix that issue. Good luck.
