Thanks for the great review. You just picked up a subscriber. I saw it Friday morning and absolutely loved it. All the performances were outstanding, but I've seen some criticism of Jodie Comer's accent. Sure, it was unusual, but it was actually a spot on impersonation of the real-life Kathy's accent, gleaned from Danny Lyon's original interview tapes. I thought her performance was Oscar caliber. The cinematography was fantastic. Beautifully photographed with many striking images. And I thought the soundtrack hit just the right note. It was authentically 60s, but didn't use songs that have become so iconic that they would have distracted from the movie (Born to Be Wild, Leader of the Pack, etc.). Instead, the soundtrack just added background atmosphere. I do hope it finds an audience because it deserves one. Early box office figures are encouraging, so it's possible it could even slightly exceed the $8-10 million projections. Hopefully good word-of-mouth can help it sustain interest in the coming weeks. Anecdotally, I have a friend in Tennessee who passed up two Saturday afternoon showings because the auditoriums were pretty packed (he saw Thelma instead and recommends that). But he saw The Bikeriders in a crowded house last night (and also loved it).
I already knew that Jodie's accent was accurate to the real Kathy, but something didn't look right about it. Jodie is too elegant and noble looking in a way. If she was less prim and proper I think maybe her accent might have felt more natural.
@@johnjungkook2721hahahaha I love that you said that about Jodie 😂😂😂…. yes that’s why she fits her role as Elizabeth of York in the White Princess…. she’s an underrated actress… Hope she’ll be in more good movies/ tv series…love watching her.
I loved this movie. It is such a beautiful and nostalgic look at a time gone by. Amazing performances and I agree the writing is spot on. I feel so protective of this movie because if it doesn’t do well we may not get more like it and that would be very sad indeed.
I went and saw it. It is one of those movies where I can't gain a consensus until some time passes. I may have to see it again. I know it was great but I can't put my finger on why because it was such a different way for a movie to flow.
I know what you mean, so I saw it a second time and that is when the nostalgia of it really sunk in. The fact that it is about real people behaving like real people is something we don’t get to see very often. I thought that hyper realistic approach was very brave and fantastic, but it is also why many people are calling it soulless and empty. We’ve been so inundated with larger than life fake people pretending to be real that true authenticity is unrecognizable. I can’t wait to see the movie again.
Absolutely fabulous review. Seen other peoples reviews and they are up and down. Most of them have been watching Marvel and wham bang thankyou mam films. Jeff Nichols has had this film in his mind for over 15 years. He wrote the script., dreamed it and put together a beautiful film from the 1960s about a motorbike club which got out of hand into a gang. That time in history has gone never to return. It is a film I enjoyed so much and the acting is the best. Loved your review and so true.
Loved it! We obviously saw the same film because I totally agree with your analysis. I am recommending it for date nights. The score is spot-on. You have a new subscriber.
I agree about the filmmaking, acting & authenticity, but i did think the pacing/ length was a little off, mostly towards the end. I also just didn't like the Benny character, his smoulder looked like a whiny pout half the time and went on for too long (that didn't work for me in SOA either) I enjoyed the random stories & hanging out, it felt beyond authentic - reminded me of being a kid in my dad's sidecar, who ran with an MC, although that was the 80s in NJ. So it was like a 7/10 for me, i liked it & am glad i saw it. Other people in the theater seemed kinda disappointed. Good review & I'm glad someone recognizes the strengths here.
Have to say I disagree with you about Benny’s character. I think he showed the most growth over the entire film, from an empty vessel running away from living to a whole man with feelings and able to participate in his life and family.
@@Tarotdog49ergirl I see what you mean. I liked that he ended up doing right by his wife, but it was painful to watch him get there, especially through her eyes. Cheers
Sure, I love having my emotions manipulated, it's why I'm crazy about movies. But this isn't Schindler's lament, this is "Benny stops acting like a child & his wife won't be in danger of SA because of him" (which was definitely partially his fault)
Beyond the Law with Charlie Sheen is considered a masterpiece about MC culture. If you haven’t been it, check it out. Also, very very very loosely based on real events.

I just watched it and I wanted more! Like a 10 part tv-series or something. It was so great, somehow, that I wanted more. The moment when Johnny is trying to get Benny to be the leader, the second time, when it kind of gets homo-erotic, was so unexpected and added layers of tension when he gets the no, but it gives answers of why Benny left. Tom Hardy said in an interview that this moment was an accident that worked very well.
Jack Lautaret..You say Tom hardy Is meant to be a father figure when the director said that's definitely not the case it's Tom hardy seeing Austin butlers as a young man he once was and that youth you can't get back.
I don't understand how you can do a review without mentioning even once that it's all based on (and cinematically ripped off) Danny Lyon's seminal book. There are scenes that are totally copied from the book. Buy the book, go see the movie but understand that it's from Lyon's book. Also, please don't go out and buy a leather jacket and become a poser...the Outlaw community dislikes posers.
This movie sucked. It was trying to tow the line between drama and action, and ended up being bad at both. It was marketed as an action/thriller about a biker gang. What we got was some woman yappin about how she fell in love with a pretty boy bikerider. If I wanted to hear about some random woman's poor life decisions, I'd go to my mom's book club. This is practically a chick flick. Dramas need to stop being advertised as action. Just because there's 2 scenes of a fist fight doesn't mean they should use those to make the movie look like it's actiony when it's not.
Sadly it was the new film company that promoted it that way. I agree it was misleading. All the interviews with the cast were different. Worked out for me as I was quite pleasantly surprised by what it was.
Agreed.. and I'm not some shallow.. Psuedo BIKER BOY F BOY... I just thoroughly enjoy the more darker and semi- violent crime/action side of movies/shows based on biker gangs especially the inception of them.. I was super stoked on being able to ESSENTIALLY see how biker gangs made the transition from being mild mannered working men who love to ride and drink and have a bar fight here and there to the drug running and actually commiting more violent acts to enforce their reputation. That's kinda what I thought this was gonna be, and i was conscious of the fact it was gonna be more on the sensitive side as I knew the premise was from Jodie POV ... And I didn't mind seeing it from that POV either...but there were just a lot of places where the movie completely fell flat for me... As far as the linear story telling aspect goes. It was a GOOD movie.. wasn't terrible but considering the caliber of actors that were in it and the potential it could've had...it just fell exponentially short of its potential to me
What did you think of The Bikeriders?
