We Need To Talk About Dune Part Two
Solid flick.
Is it a vampire movie or a zombie movie? Vampires regain their youthful appearance and vitality after they drink blood. Zombies can drink blood all day and it won’t change shit. Orlak is a putrid rotting corpse and his appearance doesn’t change despite drinking blood. So wouldn’t that make him a zombie with powers of possession? Just asking.
Go Braves!
Seen it one time, I very much liked the sound design, suspense and cinematography and I think the first half of the movie. But had the feeling the second act just kept going on and on to the point where I got bored, like the same thing kept happening over and over again without much changing or giving out more information and I felt like screaming: JEEZ CUT IT DOWN! I KNOW HE LIKES TO DRINK BLOOD. But I'm a big nosferatu/vampire simp because I always thought it was a close to perfect metaphor for opiate addiction which i've had my experiences with, so maybe I got too used to how they usually do the story beats in a dracula movie. I think it is still not a better movie than that one about the making of the old nosferatu with Willem Dafoe with John Malkovich. SPOILERS!: I do like that he touched on patriarchy and the sexual repression and disease in the modern world. Don't really agree with the good vs evil. He was called by her because she couldn't find happiness in the way her life, the world around her and her social relations were organized. It was quite literally the inner beast unleashed. So I felt it was much more about repression and conformity. In the end she had to sacrifice herself for the good of the functioning of society. Which in my view was to say that the world we've build around us is killing our connection to our nature and with that our uniqueness. Also don't think it was very pro science, they took a few jabs at 19th century science and science wasn't able to fix the issue so they had to go back to the occult, the unknown and untamed. So all in all I guess it was maybe a critique of how we treat young women in western society. That's kind of where it left me till now. But I'll watch it again at home and maybe change my mind.
Kaz Rowe has a good video about the story and sybolisms behind nosferatu (bram stokers dracula).

What was your favorite film of 2024?
Thanks for your thorough review! I really enjoyed the movie overall ❤ I really do not like his moustache though. I know it's accurate for the period, but picturing this Count Orlok sitting in front of the mirror shaving, brushing out his moustache, trimming it when it gets too long.... That just seems really out of character to me. And it's so strikingly dark, no grey, does that mean he dyes it too? I loved everything about him besides that stash.
Necrophilia!! Seems to be the fashion at the moment
congrats on 2k!
Congrats on 2K
I’ve seen a lot of people criticize this movie using terms like story arch, character development, and social commentary. They think that if a movie doesn’t take the typical form of those then it is wrong. This is a movie that feels real and brings you into the past, a world that feels like it existed before, but is completely new to the viewer. The movie is scary mostly because the topics it covers reflect the real evil of the world. Nosferatus selfishness and lust combined with Thomas’ inability to take a stand leads to a horrible dilemma for everyone. The plague aspect is not literally about the effect of plague on society, but it is more of a metaphor for the evil that Nosferatu embodies, and how it only leads to death and decay. You can say the movie is about sin, evil, lust, romance, science, societal norms, so many different topics. Yet a lot of part time internet critics and educated movie goers think that the movie is bad and disappointing. As long as great art has existed there have always been people who don’t understand it because it doesn’t fit a norm or easily recognizable pattern.
A boring experience
I love the movie and the idea of a movie where the vampire is related to the occult and demonology. This movie effectively delivered on this type of story. Nosferatu is a monster (in fact considered to be the undead plague carrier) and is primal in his motivation. He is death. He is a manifestation of ba'al the demon. His connection to Ellen and his motivation to seek her out is simply because of her psychic / paranormal abilities and this is what drew him to her. Finally, we have a vampire movie that doesn't follow the same old tropes. Vampires should not be sexy and monster movies should not be confused with romance.
I have worked in film for over 35 years designing creatures, and must have seen thousands of films, and truly enjoyed this. "The VVitch" was the best film that I had seen in 20 years, and here is another to add, by Eggers. Instead of the iconic , stiff as a board sitting up like in the original, when he got up after grabbing the pick axe, I was truly frightened . He looked huge and terrifying . Very Impressive! The work that my colleague David White did with that design was masterful restraint. Instead of making him Part animal (Rat, Bat, Wolf), he was a Man who was undead and needed blood to continue existing . The teeth were razor sharp, yet not standard "Vampire Fangs" ,they were Human teeth, evolved to razor sharpness and a shape made for tearing flesh. The pointed ears were the result of rats chewing them and not a mythological "Pointed ear". It felt like a creature that could exist, which made it really horrifying . The children's screams left no question in your mind, and even though they showed necessary restraint, you KNEW they were being eaten.
meh
My question regarding the teeth is how he punctured the heart deep enough without fangs? He left small holes that looked like sharp small fang marks, not ripping or tearing... ideas?
Loved the visual take on the story. The monster and the pace for me were letdowns. 75/100.
Calm down. The movie was in fact beautifully shot. However, the vampire is absolutely corny. The combover and handlebar mustache were almost laughable. 7/10. Not even scary.
The vampires look is faithful to the book and how vampires where depicted in that time.. maybe corny looking but faithfull to the time and book. Eggers is kinda all about being faithfull to history and the actual lore of what he is making
@ it’s the one part they could have taken liberty with. I heard others audibly laughing.
@@angelilarraza119 i liked it, its not the hollywood vampire type but a more accurate one. He looks like a dead Vlad the impaler who Dracula is based on.
Calm down? What a thing to say to someone who enjoyed this film and whose channel you’re watching.
@ I’m sorry I disagreed with someone else’s opinion? How about you calm down too and get off his sack about it.
I had a few drinks before the movie and man I wasn’t necessarily on my feet but was just an awe of the cinematography, and the scares were there, I think I’ve been spoiled by the jump scare tactic by your everyday scary movie that’s released nowadays but they were done so brilliantly. I was more so anxious than scared tbh Bill Skarsgard was so unrecognizable I was just shocked that that was actually him and I can’t imagine how his voice felt after filming but my god what a film!
This was movie was an experience. Nickolaus Hoult stole the show for me. His meeting with Count Olak was horrifying and captured the terror PERFECTLY.
Yeah clearly this is one from the heart from Eggers, magistral!!! Unfortunately it didn't scare me though, no goosebumps and I didn't get emotionally involved, maybe because we all know the story so well
I think that’s exactly it - the film wasted far too much time expositing vampire lore we all know so well, various characters standing in rooms telling us what needs to be done, what will happen next etc, with repetitive scenarios of sweating, moaning, and “oh no he’s coming” taking me out of the story and experience. I was bored and disengaged. Not sure what performances other people are seeing cos the performances are campy and one-note. Visually stunning but a big let down for me!
This was a very good but weird movie I was really questioning everything in a good way definitely agree
reno 911 actor was so so so bad as the other juror. like a key and peele sketch where hes overacting in a sketch where his character is up for an oscar
Was this filmed in an actual airport? Or on a set? Didn't see this in the credits. Found it fascinating to see hundreds of conveyer belts carrying checked luggage and sending bags down chutes to reach different boarding gates. A very elaborate transport system never thought much about it before.
E.T. the Extra Terrestrial and Silence of the Lambs are my two favorite movies of all time. Nosferatu is my third.
The only problem I have with the writing is that the prosecution didn't really have a case. It was all speculation, but yeah Juries probably behave like in the movie.
An outstanding film that treats its audience with immense respect. This is a writer/director/actor combination that understands the greatest horrors are the ones the audience imagines from the least information. Most people want to be told how to feel, so it probably won't find the widest audience.
Way, WAY TOO MUCH assigning grades. GET TO THE MOVIE!!
I’m literally talking about the movie while going through my grade. Where is the divide here?
can i understand the general take i genuinely feel like i just watched a 2 hour rape film im upset i watched the movie
no hate but im genuinely disturbed by the movie
The pacing was too slow and I got bored
Please help me: he swapped the suitecases and at the same time didnt? Or did He Put the bomb in another suitcase. I dint get it. Like the movie but this triggers me.
It appears that he put the contents of one suitcase into a slightly larger one, and the meticulous and clever bad guy didnt notice.
My interpretation of the swap is that the other suitcase had a bomb in it as well. There was someone who had said they had 2 different tickets. My interpretation of the whole film was that the initial flight to NY was more of a distraction so that the DC flight could go off without any alerts
Love the content keep it up!
Looks & Plays like a tv movie. Was not gripping, at all. Definitely not on the edge of my seat. A competent film only getting this much attention because Clint Eastwood directed it.
You lost me when you said WB is burying the film WBD doesnt decide how many theaters a movie gets Thats up to theater owners Get your facts straight dude
@@DaveRedsky it entirely has to do with the studio. If they offered what could possible Clint Eastwood’s last film to a theater, the theater would take it. Don’t be naive.
@JackLautaret you're super uneducated here. No it does not. Studio sell their films like any other company. And they sell them to theaters. Cinemacon is place where studio sell their film to theaters. Theater owners see the film, and they're the ones that decide if they want a film to be played. Like do you know what you're talking about?
@ I think it’s super naive to not think a studio would purposely not sell a film if they don’t want to. Films have been buried before and they will be buried again in the future. Read literally any article and you’ll see that WBs distribution plan was to put it in 50 theaters and not push it for a wide release. Thats a WB decision, not an owner decision. I find it a little insulting for you to question my intelligence on the matter when it’s clear you haven’t done the research yourself.
@@JackLautaret I know you're slow. And super uneducated in the film industry. You're just echochambering things because other people told you so. But those people don't actually know either. And you making a video, completely misinformating your viewers is just as stupid as well.... And the ones the know how distribution works haven't said anything like that. Everybody knows theaters are the ones the detect what films get played in theaters. And they make those decision when they see the product the studio has for them. And it's the theaters that coincide with the distribution/marketing team how the film will play out. Juror #2 is a limited release that gets a wider releases depending on performance. So please do me a favor. Stop being slow. Educate yourself in the industry or talk someone that actually knows what they're talking about. Stop spreading false narratives
Why didn't any of the people in this movie have Southern accents? Even the old man living in the trailer down by the river sounded like a Yankee.
If Mystic River is a 10 out 10, Juror #2 is 4 . Let's be honest.
Nicholas Hoult was OK, but Toni Collete and JK Simmons were phenomenal . I' also say Cedric Yarbrough really stood out. Great story, very suspenseful , although the first half hour wasn't as well done as it might have been. Once we're past that the direction was first rate. It was if Eastwood just wanted to get to the court room and the jury room
Studios gave Clint Eastwood, the Touch Of Evil Treatment. That Orson Wells film became a classic. Juror #2 may not become that famous but its very, very good. It's what studios do when they fail to recognize a movie's value.
I saw Annihilation in theater before it went streaming. Excellent movie. This one? Meh 😒 any law nerd would rip it to pieces. I was yelling at the defense attorney for little to no cross. No logic in the prosecution trying to debunk her own case. Literally dumb. Real world would've been mistrial
This movie fucking sucked. Stop lying bro
The action was good, but the plot holes are unforgivable. All characters did stupid stuff to move the action plot. They completely forgot about the switched bag. Smh.
What are you talking about about? They payed off the switched bag as being the reason the bag had to be put in the cargo hold and not above Batemans head
@JAce94007 I guess they left it up to deduction. He only had seconds to place the ribbon, so how would he move the bomb that fast? Then the bomb was fitted to the suitcase, so it would have been loose in the case. Just sloppy writing that killed the movie for me. That was just one in many of the failed plot holes. The blue haired girl, why did his wife run in the street in front of the van, why would you shoot someone driving on the freeway, and many more.
PETE SEEGER (Ed Norton) and JOAN BAEZ (Monica Barbaro) !! You dwelt on Elle Fanning's "shallow character" while failing to even mention Seeger or Baez by name. Baez was especially significant in launching Dylan's career. Seeger was one of the major players in founding the Folk Revival of the 1950's and 60's and Baez was an enormous presence whose career lasted 60 plus years until her retirement from singing a few years back. She summed up her relationship with Dylan in a 1975 top 40 hit, "Diamonds and Rust".
I did mention Seeger by name and also credited both actors for great performances. I didn’t have an issue with their storylines that’s why I didn’t go into detail on them. Of course they’re important that’s why they’re highlighted in the movie.
This was a tough film to watch. Murphy is a great actor, but the burn was a little too slow for me
Poignant today? Do you think we treated people who are different better in 1995 when the book was written? Or the 1950s? The themes are universal. Humans are hardwired to fear the other because we evolved in tribes and other tribes were dangerous and if you didn't confirm to your group you were a liability.
Well, Ethan is no John McClain, but the movie was pretty good anyway. Yippie Kiyeah MF👍👍
This movie is not a winner, ugh, it was so bad.
The plot holes are crazy lol. They completely forgot about the switched bag twist.
I enjoyed it quite a bit. It lacked some brutality maybe. However, the plan of the terror-mercenary seemed a bit too complicated to even consider it being pulled off like that. Too many human factors due to people forced into going with it. But I guess that goes for most DH-style flicks.
Having read the book beforehand, I can say that they pretty much filmed the book as written. If anything, the ending is slightly _toned down_ from the one in the book. Both the book and movie give you a real "you are there" feeling as the conclave goes through multiple ballots. There's an old saying which is quoted in the book but not the movie: "He who enters the conclave as pope, leaves it as a cardinal." We see that play out with a number of our main characters, Adeyemi, Tremblay, and even Tedesco. In the end, though, it's clear the right man won, and almost everyone sees that.
Can’t wait to watch! 👍
I think the writer wanted a young Maclane for the script but changed it to this movie. Feels like a Die hard alot
I enjoyed this movie.
Just finished watching it. Loved it. Good old 90s throwback kind of film.
So glad you enjoyed it!
